Vacuum seal a meal

Vacuum seal a meal

I used a vacuum seal-a-meal and then refrigerated everything from last year. Just pulled out the last of it a couple weeks ago. It was fine one year old. Refrig is all you want or need.

You can without any problrem whatsoever freeze your herb as soon as the stem in the middle snaps and the outside of the bud is a bit crispy.

When you take it out you let it sit in the air for one day then you jar it the next day you take it out again.

Depending on the moisture level it could also be you have to let it sit in the air for a couple of days. So you can perfectly dry it and cure it afterwards(finetuning)

Anywho yes the herb stays fresh and when it thaws the trichs don't break off

IMO, herb is NOT the same once thawed, sorry, but it tends to decompose rather fast and gets kinda fluffy IMHO. Flame away, I don't like it, some people love to..

Yes it works well. I have some three year old weed I'm smoking that has been preserved this way. If you are going to store for a very long time, you should purge with nitrogen or co2. Wine stores sell cans of compressed nitrogen (for preserving opened wine) or you can use a bicycle tube inflator (the kind that uses a cartridge similar to an air gun cartridge) for co2 purging.

I wonder about vacuum sealing though. The vacuum might cause some of the aromatic compunds to vaporize sooner rather than later.

@ moldy what do you mean? decomposing?

Sounds like the weed that was frozen was too moist prior to freezing. With freezing i have noticed this year that it needs to be drier and then when you take it out , it is at perfect moisture level after few days in a bag.

And it seems to me after 3 years of freezing weed that the taste becomes softer. I almost haven't touched my greenhouse harvest since may. I thought it was rough on the throat.

But i have given a few straiins to friends lately and they all say it was good.

Even member dubite said they where goodf. So i tasted the weed again and by god it has become good!(my weed was much too dry plus taste issues cuz of drying in attick

Not sure why THC, and in all reality I have not done it in many years. From what I do remember the herb was drier and started to crumble after a few weeks, where as herb stored in a cool dry place (50-70 degrees) in a jar stays more crunchy and fresh. Not sure man, just my preference I guess, maybe I generalized and you are right about moisture content, maybe too dry..good convo though:joint:

it does lose taste and smell the longer iit is frozen, but it doesnt hurt it any at all. but if only for a year, id keep it in the fridge.

why wouldn't you just store it in jars and have 1 year cured bud? does bud become less and less potent or something as you save it?

That and throw it in a fireproof safe / storage box good for years. Make sure you seal'a'meal it properly cured. Light and extreme heat / temp changes degrades the weed over time, but in the dark it is like a fine wine ;)

Peace, :joint:

one of the reasons that i don't use jars and cure is that i still haven't mastered curing properly.

And to then put an enitre greenhouse harvest in jars and then having stale disgusting weed is not so hot.

So i just freeze small packages and cure after freezing , till i perfect it and then i may try to store everything in jars

I found a 3 year old nug under my bed last week. I live in a desert area that is dry (20-30% humidity) all year and temps in the house don't go over 80. I was moving and was so pleasantly surprised to find it. It came from a SSH seed a good friend of mine had given me before he died. I kept that mom for 4 or 5 years and eventually lost her. To find this bud was a real gift. I have never smoked 3 year old bud, nor seen any before. This was from one of my first harvests in that house, and more importantly was like a gift from my old passed friend. The bud when fresh had more of a grassy, incensy, sandlewoody haze taste that left a smell in the air of incense like no other. This bud, however was so cured it smelled of honey and cognac. Amazingly complex haze flavor, sweet aromas from the curing too with a hint of sandlewood in the aftertaste. The buds were perfect, just a tad dry, but still maleable and just right for the bowl, very smooth hits and the smell of the smoke was even more amazing. Very relaxing and inspiring high, last weekend was a treat. I don't think freezer bud cures, and never really stays so nice and maleable yet crunchy like top notch buds. so why do that instead of achieving a great cure?
I do understand that different environments make it hard to dry and cure without added toys like dehumidifiers and even food dessicators in very humid areas. I lived by the beach before and the onshore flow every night made the enviro. 100% humidity daily. My herb never dried it seemed, and to close it up humid could cause quick decomposition, sure. anyway..
Here are some pics -

I guess every environment is different and storage methods should be applied depending on **Humidity, Heat, light...

IMVHO if this bud was in the tropics or somewhere very hot it would have degraded and gotten brown etc.. You can tell the bud is very old by the blackish stem color (first pic)

I usually let the harvest dry for 3-5 days before freezing it in vacuumbags.

I dont let it dry out. I keep it fairly moist. When I take it out 2 days or 2 years later I let it dry out till its ready for the jars.

My experience is, that its like freezing normal vegetable, when the buds retain its moisture, its pretty much like it was harvested 2-3 days ago. I have even tried freezing a freshly harvested bud with even better results.

When freezing cured buds I agree it tends crumble easier

@ moldy ,

curing and storing in jars is the perfect and best thing to do.

But there is no point in doing it till you have mastered it 100%.

. So in this case , to me it seems best to divide the harvest in small consumer portion freezer bags , so it stays fresh and nice.

And then after it comes out of the freezer you can practise curing till you get it just right. Or you can just smoke away , the bud will be the same as before freezing them

But if you have never cured and you start curing a few pounds , well that's just asking for trouble.

So in my case and i am sure there are others , making sure your harvest isn't ruined is the main point of interest , rather fresh not curd herb than stale herb
