germing seeds....

alright i am back with much needed help. I have some seeds germing in between a paper towel. now tell me if i am doing something wrong. I have had hit or miss with the little plugs you put the seeds in. so i wanted to get them started first before i put them in the plugs. starting over sucks all that time it takes to get things going again.

Do you have a seedling heat mat? If not I would go get one. Personally, I would ditch the paper towel right off the bat. Plant it in a medium and keep moist. Not too dry and not too wet, but mostly warm. Run an advanced search and type in "germination" and look for Freezerboys discussion about paper towels.

Put that paper towel in a ziplock baggie and put it on something warm (computor monitor or similar). If it is hot put a bit of paper between the bag and monitor. They should pop in 24-48 hrs. Then go into your media.

Planting them in rockwool works best for me. Maybe 1/4 inch under the surface. T-5's work great. Keep under 18 hour light and just straight tap water in a tray below so rockwool acts as a wick. Introduce nutes EVER so slowly. I use a ratio of about two cups of straight tap (depends how many ppm you have, mine is around 140ppm), to maybe a shot glass size of 1/16 strength mixed in the two cups of tap. Also i spray foilage with distilled water to minimize damage from harmful tap water on leaves

You can also use plastic wrap or sandwick baggies to keep em humid. Put small holes in plastic too

I like to use a beer cup and a perlite soil mix once they root in the paper towel. Then i don't need nutes until the third set of leaves,

Thanks cygnus. I just ordered them from a company in Canada called Dr. Greenthumb. Phone number is 613-330-2404. I will say that the service and delivery was excellent with these guys. I think I paid around $200 for the ten beans plus they include one extra for a total of 11. Still have 9 in the fridge. I have actually never tried this before and not sure what to expect here, but I have read many many good things about c-99. This is supposedly the "S" pheno and I am somewhat excited to see what happens here. I am still just learning about how this site works but as soon as I figure out the inner workings, I plan to do a thread on my grow with it

ok to my suprise i opened up the paper towel just after one day and already there were three seeds popped. so i just went ahead and put them into rapid rooters and we will see what happens. I am about to pop a couple of fem seeds. one is blueberry and the other is k train.

My strain is a Blueberry x Alaskan thunder****/ Hog. This is a flower pic. GG1, you will enjoy that blueberry aroma. It is a lovely smoke. We call it "Hippie Chicken" I am interested in germing a blueberry alone too. Keep me posted to see how you like it. Thanks

i think i am going to see how these seeds that i popped work out before i go ahead and pop the fem seeds. i am jumping in slow this time if you know what i mean. i want everything to work out the right way this time. i still have to make something for my rapid rooters. I am going to do that today. and i think i am going to use a T5 this time till i find out what is going on.

ganja....i have some KTrain flowering right now........2 pheno's -- stretchy sativa...and shorter squwat indica. gonna grow both out, and have cuttings behind before i make a judgement call.

i have not seen redman 71's thread i will have to take a look at it when i get a chance. so what you are saying is there is a chance i will get a sativa on the ktrain. damn i have height issues. lol....oh well it will have to be something i will find out. So i made a new spot for my rapid rooters. they are separated and ready to go. just waiting for roots to come out so i can add some water to the spot they are in and add a air stone or two.

well i am on day three from the time i put the seeds in between the paper towels and then put them in the rapid rooters there is already a couple popping out the top. I am amazed to see that they are doing so well already. i have not used any heat mat or anything to keep the temps high. i have them in a cold dark place and they seem to be doing fine. I will keep you posted on the progress and i will put some photos up when there is something to see. lol.....

hey ganjagrower1!!!! i had problems in the past until i went to the greenhouse site and used their method!!! just go there and look under germination!! its simple!!and my germ rates are in the hi 90's %!! sounds like you are on the right track!! dj

thanks dj........ i think i got that now. i have not had much luck just putting the seeds in so i had to try to do the paper towel trick and it worked better then i thought. so i think from now on i will start with the paper towel then go to plugs.

so i lifted the top off of the container and to my surprise there are tap roots out the bottom of a couple of the rooters. i have some of the tops popping out as well. but now my question is how long can these go with out having water hitting the tap root. should i add water to the container and an air stone as well now since the root is coming out the bottom. i dont want it to dry out. any input would be much appreciated.

so far i have 5 that have popped out of the 11.... so maybe the others are just duds or they are taking alittle longer to pop. i still havent gotten those other beans to pop. those are female seeds so i am not going to have to wait for the sexing.

so i finally got the t5 hooked up. i go and check on them this morning to my surprise one of my seedlings were swimming. i had to pull out and put back in the hole. and i gave them a little veg nutes. a couple of days under the t5 they will be ready for the net pots. this way i have a couple of days to get my hydrotron rocks ready. now does any one have any advice on what i should add when i do go to the buckets. do i need to add any beneficial bacteria or just bloom nutes.
