Ryan

New member
Yo, First time grower here so i thought i would post my grow and how it is going so far.

I am growing 2 AK-47's from serious seeds in a tower PC case.

Day 1 - 14/10/09

Day 5 - 19/10/09
- 1 of the plants leaves got burnt and stunted its growth alot so i got rid of it.

Day 19 - 2/11/09
Q: Does anyone know if these are girls yet, sorry about the quality, couldnt get it to focus close up.

Any tips or if u want any more details, just ask

Ryan.

What wattage light is that? How do you keep it cooled? Are those fliers they are sitting on?

If you see white hairs they are girls if you see balls they are boys. You must be patient to in this game as nothing comes in a hurry.

its a 125w CFL red spectrum. i have a fan blowing air out, but i am going to build a stand that the pots can sit on today. then try wire up a PC Fan to blow in air at the bottom of the pc case,

The temps atm are 80, and they seem to be coping ok, but the extra fan blowing in air will help with temps.

im also using BioBizz all mix and Biobizz Grow, bloom, and topmax.
Only using grow at this at the minute.

high man, welcome to the world of cannabis cultivation. here are a few links
to threads you need to read, all are excellent and each will teach you part of
what you need to learn in order to grow successfully in such a small space.

don't be daunted by how much you don't know and instead understand that
each mistake you make, each failure you experience, each new thing you try
will help make you a better grower.

the real key is persistence, if you want it bad enough, you WILL succeed!

it's not that hard either, when i first started i popped 30 beans and they all
died so i popped 30 more and only 5 of those survived! fortunately, 4 were
female and i still have a clone mother from the best of those bagseed gurls,
lol! (that was almost 3 years ago) in truth, i keep it more for sentimental
reasons as i now have many top shelf strains to play with.

anyway, lol, good luck grasshopper!

hey man, have fun

it will be a little till they show sex, your gonna see balls or hairs where the leaf stem meets the main stem. you'll know when you see it.

80f seems pretty good for a comp case with 125 watts. I don't know as I don't do micros but 80f should be fine.

they look good, kick back and read in your spare time, and enjoy the journey

Hey Ryan, nice grow so far. If your finding that your getting slightly blinded by your light cut a piece of cardboard out and mount it in front of your bulb, try and stick some mylar to it too. Your temps sound okay, but just make sure you check your soil every day, with the seedlings so close, your soil may dry too fast.

Hi there, that cabinet looks a lot like mine except i am using smaller bulbs and have a carbon filter rigged up inside the case with passive intake . If you are going to put in a cf you need to have negative pressure , meaning the air pressure leaving the case is greater than the intake . I have a small pc fan at the bottom left hand corner angled at 45 degrees to blow cooler air around the plant and bulbs , it works fine and doesn't affect the air pressure at all .
Good luck with it , i'll be looking in.

Ryan, instead of using an active exhaust and an active intake I would just make your intake holes twice the size of your exhaust. This will create a passive intake and negative pressure in your case. Negative pressure will keep the smell and air going through the exhaust.

Also having an active intake will swirl the air around your case a lot and make the exhaust fan more inefficient. If you want real cooling power get two active exhausts and a large passive intake.

edit: janeymac beat me to it.

hey Ryan, here are a couple pics from the growers highlighted in those links
i posted for ya, so you can maybe see how much they have to teach you.

each of these growers has done pioneering work which has helped many, many
people with their clever and innovative solutions to problems common to all
who struggle to grow in micro environments.

good luck grasshopper, if you really want it, you WILL succeed, just don't give up!

Hey Ryan, your grow case is starting to look great, I didn't realise how much grow space you actually had, your case is quite high!

I would like to point out that blowing air into the pc is dangerous to your odor control. You would be safer using two exhaust fans and just holes for intakes. If you blow air in it will create positive pressure and air will try to escape through cracks and not through the filter. Even if you are running a bigger fan for the exhaust it is still a bad idea because you have a filter slowing the exhaust air down.

Yeah it was a shitty fan anyways i sally sacked it off a few days later, so just one hole and one exaust. smell is minimal but i decided to move the PC case out of the house and into a small room outside, were tumble dryers and stuff go.

Here is a Picture update anyways.

Day 26 - ITS A GIRLLLLLLLLLLLLLL :woohoo::woohoo:

Day 30 -- Topped one of the plants, hope i did it correctly lol (The one that hasnt shown its gender flowers yet)

Day 33 - New Set up, sally sacked the PC Case, i had a free wardrobe so why not. i did this cause it was outside and would of been very cold at night so i think that mite of slowed growth.

I have also discoverd a vent in the wall in my room, would it be safe to use it? where do vents usually go? up the chimley?

is my new set up, i havnt got a reflector but i my try rolling up mylar into a cone and taping it up.

here is the current process :)

Hope it speeds up now :)

please any tips or hints are welcome :D

peace

build a beer can reflector. for your bigger sized cfl you should get like an az iced tea can and use that. i typed up on how to make a beer can reflector but after i read it i realized it was way too confusing so i found a picture on another site but im sure if you just type "beer can reflector" into google youll find the steps to make one.

heres the picture...they work really well and are easy to make.

thats the general idea. also i didnt read your whole thread and not sure why your hanging that light vertical but if you mount it horizontal with a reflector about 6in above your plant tops you will utilize more of that light.

good luck!
