thanks again Scrub..
yeah I do want to do my grow in one of those tubs...that is funny!!
Pretty scary article huh..pretty well EVERYTHING that comes out of any groecery store!UGH
My mom has always bugged me about using any plastic, I guess mom's are always right!

Here are a few pics showing the 80mm scrubber and the duct adapter plus the fan speed controller..Yeah there is a small amount of carbon that went through the holes...not bad is it??

it would be pretty hard to mount ANY scrubber inside my case..i see alot of people using scrubbers on the outside..
Have you(or anyone else) heard any bad stories regarding scrubbers on the outside?
If so, let me know..
Thanks

You're quite welcome BC.

Yeah there is a small amount of carbon that went through the holes...not bad is it??

Not as such, but it has/will/might fall away from somewhere else, causing a thin spot somewhere, where air may take the path of least resistance. Give it a really good tapping before you seal it up. Tap it for like 30 minutes if you can be arsed. You want it in there tightly packed as possible and shaking/vibrating is how they do that in commercial filters. Just tap it lightly on your knee or the desktop for a while until you think it's settled fully.

And call me crazy, but wouldn't the stocking serve better on the inside, so the carbon can't fall out?

Yeah me personally I would drill lots and lots of holes in the bottoms of the pencil holders

You can go nuts, drill that thing!

hey ScrubNinja..yeah I'll tap the filter a tad more..did it for quite awhile but had to stop prematurely..due to visitors..works like a charm though..especially when I can control the fan speed

I got the idea for the scrubber off of sugearbear's thread on micro-scrubbers..
the second entry in his thread is the one I copied complete with hose outside..I think I just have to tighten the stocking a little more

i am going to do a light test tomorrow for a few hours to check temps again before I mount the scrubbers fully..just a mockup

finished the 120mm scrubber and it works awesome!! Have seeds in a paper towel and I am doing heat, light and temp tests...pics later today

you are right Scrub..the big scrubber is very heavy but I have aluminum and duct tape holding it in place ...it won't budge

very excited about starting this grow..going to get soil too

Anyone willing to help me decide on either a 6.6 litre shoebox or pots for the 2 seeds new home??
Thanks for your help everyone

This is GREAT! I have had my pc running for 4 hours now and the temps were at 84. Not bad for 186 watts.
I turned up fans blowing light and exhaust to see what would happen. The temps have dropped to

The pics show a thermometer on top of the exhaust showing temps of 82! The heat coming through the scrubber is crazy!
I am using 2 different thermometers just in case and they are under a piece of paper so they don't get direct light. One is a remote therm and the other is just a regular one.

pretty good results I must say.. Once the seeds are germinated, I can start this show..
Its taken me 3 months to build this thing..Finally ready!

Here is the therm on top of the scrubber showing 82 degrees of heat coming out.
Also here are pics of temps, after 2 more hours, with the fans turned up just a little. One therm is the remote and the other is a regular digital which were both covered with paper to get a more accurate reading..
As you can see, the remote is 10 degrees different..Why??
can anyone enlighten me??
Thanks

Hey man good work. Try leaving both your therms somewhere not so volatile, like a cupboard, for an hour and then check. If they're still out then you have a dodgy thermo. About your container, I never put more than one plant in one pot.

thanks Scrub!! I did what you said and its the remote therm that is whacky..
i am just going to try 1 seed for this grow just to get used to everything and learn on the way..
Its so funny to think something so small can grow anything..
Micro Growers RULE!!

Thanks stonedu!
I am sure yours is great bro.
This thing took months because I thought more of everything was the way to go...was I wrong!
thanks to Scrubninja and many others who corrected:noway: me before any disaster happened:wallbash:

here are more pics with my pc in a warmer room(just to see how it performed) and the temps were better than I imagined.

I had problems with one therm so I put one of those very old therms inside(those things will work forever) and it pretty well matched the digital at 82 degrees. With 186 watts thats pretty good.

I just might take out 1 23 watt so everything will go well since it will be on for 12 hours straight.

You can see the seed but the pic isn't that good..I'll take another later on.

Its been 24 hours now so it should pop out soon I hope!

it looks like this grow is FINALLY going to happen.Hope you all join this little lady in her maiden voyage

Congrats on the seed, dude. It all starts with a seed, as gypsy says. It's the temp at the plant canopy (final bud level) that matters most. All your pics show them far away? Also, is your house heated/cooled so it maintains a steady temp year round? Otherwise it's the temp difference aka above ambient that you should pay most attention to. Don't you dare change anything though! Just letting you know.

Hey Scrub!! Thanks bro..
I like a cool room(very cool) but its an old house so its crazy trying to get it just right..If I just leave the box in my room, I'll be okay..Right?
Also, do you want me to put the therm up higher? Is that what you mean?I don't know where the best place to put the therm so can you(or anyone!) help Scrub?
I can always take a light out too.

Thanks

Thanks rhyo!

BC, what I mean is that for most of the world, they are in the cooler part of the year. So if your ambient temp is cold, I dunno, say 70, and your cab temp was 80, well you are 10 degrees above ambient. When summer comes, and the temp is hotter, say 80 degrees ambient, well that means you'll be around 10 degrees above that in the cab, and 90 (for example) would be too hot.

As far as where to put the therm/sensor, you want it where the buds will be growing, or higher than the floor anyway. Heat rises and light bulbs generate heat so that is where the hottest part is. Since we all know you need to have your buds close to CFLs, your buds will be close to CFLs in the hot zone, so that's a more relevant important reading.

See the paper tube on the left with the wires over it? My sensor was in there. Now I wedge it up the very top front left. Don't worry too much about temp readings. As long as it doesn't feel uncomfortably hot on your hand, you should be ok, nd the whole physics of the cab will be very different anyway by the time you have plants flowering.

thanks Scrub and rhyo!
I wanted a big server/tower so I googled and finally came across a Lian-Li case..Depending on where you live( I live in Canada) there is Newegg,Tiger Direct..etc Try Googling where you are and just keep seraching the online stores...Lian_li are great too because they are made of aluminum
Happy searching!

I'll move the therm up higher today Scrub..So all this worry about temps is crazy? UGH
When my pc is on, I can touch all the lights no problem Scrub..With the fan blowing on the lights on one side and the Delta sucking heat from the other, ALL the lights are very cool...is that good ???? The room where its going never gets above 69..How's that..I also can put a fan blowing right on it too...Let me know
The seed is poking through the shell today!

  • It's not crazy, I just mean if you're a few degrees over, don't panic. :)
  • Yes, blowing a fan on a bulb will cool it, but heat still rises.
  • 69 is wonderful.
  • I would plant that thing.

Hey everyone..Its finally on:woohoo:

After 6 hours of running, 186 watts was too much..All good..I put in 6 23-26 watt lights with total lumens at 9600L so thats even better than with 186 watts...Now my pc has a total of 143 watts and its been running for quite awhile.
you can see ( thanks Scrub!) I put the therm up higher and that the heat inside the case is a balmy 82 but I believe it will be okay..anyone agree?

To help matters, I installed a 120mm fan inside the case just to blow cool air..you can see it on the left beside the pot covered in a silver screen

That really lowered the temps so I was able to turn down the Delta exhaust.

I also got a new remote therm(for free when i returned the defective one) and its mounted at the top left far corner beside the powerbar

The pics also show that the seed has broken its shell and now is having a nice dirt bath!
hope you all join her
thanks everyone

Case is looking good BC. Congrats on the birth... 82 should be ok, run it for longer and see what its like. Mine has been reaching over 100 a few times for the last week so will be making mods to my case, probably on sunday and starting a new space too.

Good luck bro

Seany
