hey h3ad have you found with strains like casey that dropping the N too early causes a mess late flower? as in branch strength

adding some perlite will help ENORMOUSLY (it basically does the aeration part for you). Perlite is mineral foam that is PH neutral. By doing this, you dont have to water so often but get the great benefits that coco offers :)

Really? I'm using a 50/50 mix this round and they get watered 5x daily because the medium dries so quickly

Casey is a branch breaker, often... The extra N may eliminate some of the need for tying, but I stake and tie most everything anyhow...

My first coco xplants!

Both had a couple of roots showing through.
(rooted in peat pellets)

1 1/2 hrs later, & not dead, yet! :woohoo:

==================
Botanicare Cocogro - 5 kg block

Being to lazy to "rinse" it,
I just followed the directions on the label and hydrated the coco.
(I'm willing to take the gamble, this time.)

I used 3/4.5 (= half strength 6/9)
(pHed to 5.8)

My water is RO, mixed with tap 50/50.
Which, comes out to: EC=41, pH=8.65

===================

Here is a detail of how i recommend transplanting into solo cups for coco:

1. only use cuts which have begun to grow roots. by this i mean that the cut is actually growing roots, not merely having bumps that will be roots. usually I wait until i see more than one root emerging from the rw cube. if cloning in coco i transplant as soon as I see the cut growing again. when cloning in coco i water cuts often too.

Check.

2. hydrate your coco with 1/2 str 6/9. coco should be wet, but not so wet that water drips out when you pick up a handful.

Check.

3. loosely fill the cup with coco up to the level where the bottom of the cube will rest. set the cube in. loosely fill in around the cube to the level of the top of the cube. gently drop the cup once from about 1.5 inches high to tamp the coco.

I'm not sure if my drop was sufficient. LOL
I'm always trying NOT to drop 'em. ;)
Should give 'em another drop tomorrow when I water?

4. 24 hours later begin watering daily, by pouring a small stream of diluted 6/9 nutrient solution directly into the rw cube until nutrient just begins to run out of the cup holes.

 6/9 starts tomorrow.

5. transplant again in a couple of weeks.
Currently,
I plan on xplanting to one gal pots and flipping to 12/12.

:smoweed:

Hi Peat,

B careful baout going full 6/9 on the little fellas. If I remember correct, H3ad and Rez dilute the 6/9 a bit. I think Rez goes 50% untill plants are like 10" tall.

Good luck bro...I jusy made the jump to coco a month ago. I can say that straight coco does not work great in a hempy bucket. I'm now trying a little perlite in the bottom of the bucket to wick the moisture from the coco. Sux cause I went to coco to get away from white colored media.

Thanks, Stond Face!

I see that I misread that.

I'm hoping to get away from perlite.
I'm hoping to get away from mixing.

I'm full of hope...

:chin: Or, something...

Thanks for all the info everybody. :respect:

Hey robertmarley, that's good to know.
I haven't read alot about moms in coco. (Mine are in LC Mix.)
Are you watering the moms daily under the flos? (I assume so.)

That's along the lines I'm now thinking, greenatik.
I gave 'em 3/4.5 again tonight.
I'm looking for them to be ready to xplant in a week, or 2.
Maybe time the bump up in nutes with the xplant?
(I don't want to stay too low for too long.)

Good info Bobby Stainless.
I'll keep that in mind for my heavy feeders.
Are you using any supplements in the WF?

Peat,
do you use or planning on using any root products? can't recommend it highly enough especially before/after transplants. growth in coco is great but ive found with the addition of fungi its insane. i use a/n piranha but there's a million others out there.

ps, as soon as you see some noticeable growth on the clones go ahead with 6/9 (for me, i start full strength about 4 waterings/4days after rooting).

For now, I'm going to stick with the basic formula.
Benchmark the results.
Then, go from there...

I'll be looking for "noticable growth".

Thanks for the tips greenatik! :respect:

botanicare coco, gh micro n bloom and midwestern tap water filtered brita style= work or not work?? should i atleast get a ph test kit n ph up and down.

Peat, I try to water them daily but sometimes i forgot.. probably get watered 4-5 times a week. I threw them into the old veg container with floros and ran a 1/3 formula and just kind forgot about them, went back to look and there huge! works just fine..

i thank you again for casey and all the help you've given us!

my casey mother plant in flowering along with 8 others

so as far as I understand, they are going to need water on a daily basis. I have heard that you should not treat coco like a soil grow, which leads to my next question. Do I water regardless of the weight of the pot?!?! or what. How do you know when to water?
if you follow head's method in terms of amount of runoff, etc. you will need to water everyday regardless of weight. although i think you will be surprised how much lighter they are before watering each day.

Second- plain ph'd water every other watering or what??
no. you fert everyday and flush at the end. this feeding program already accounts for nutrient buildup within the substrate, that's how/why it works.
obviously, each garden is it's own beast and you may need to adjust to your particular plants accordingly, but as a general guideline...juice em then flush em.
