Best 1000 watt hps bulbs?

I prefer Ushio Hilux with a digi ballast...but that's just me, it don't really mean much in the grand scheme of things.

sunmaster warm, neutral or cool deluxe (mh)...

hortilux eye conversion (hps)...

can find both bulbs, made by same mfg, under different product lines, for much less than the 'horticulture' product lines...

ideally, want to mix a 4k, 5k, or 10k+ blue bulb, or 380-450nm, w/ a 2k hps, or 600+nm...

there are ~30 coins 1k mh bulbs & ~50 coin 1k hps bulbs w/ the same color temps... under generic product lines... a sm warm & a eye hortilux may grab ~200+ coins from a 'hydro' store...

business, retrofitting, warehouse, etc lighting may be alternative sources for same/close cri/kelvin temps/etc...

@ 1' away from the bulb, should get close to 150-250 par watts from any 1k, whatever the color, or type of bulb is... leaf saturation occurs ~300 par watts. a 1k @ 1 foot away should be ~150-250 par watts... though sm warm deluxe states 345 par watts on box...
the sun is 450 par watts of full spectrum light; more than just human visual capacities...

20 photons of light are required to make & store 1 molecule of sugar...

the best bulbs are the least expensive... keeping plant close to light/light close to plant is key... 12-18" max... in imaginary garden, plants are kept 2-6" away... run until they dont run anymore, replace...

the people whom i know who consistantly get 1g/watt use the "chrome dome" bulbs, with built in reflectors on the bulb. the shades can make the most difference in a set up i find, and these reflect the most light back to the canopy for horizontal. the best results ive had were with 600w lumateks with adjustawing shades, d

*mistress* - some nice data. DO you know someone with the same level of knowledge as purpledom? Anyhow, are their specific bulbs that you know are the exact same but under different brand? Are you saying by matching specs on them is a good way to identify the same bulb?

I knew there was a good reason why bulbs were to be one of the last decisions for my grow; there is just so much marketing involved.

compare 'hortilux' to 'sunlux' brands, both mfg by same co... both reg & conversion models... for 1 example.

the goddess purpledom met her demise:frown:... she seemed to enjoy her imaginary garden...

In case someone else runs across this thread...

Check out galesburgelectric.com - they got some good deals on lights if you're one of us who think that cheaper is best.

New bulbs are the best ones. No matter how much you spend, you have output loss after 6 months, more loss of product than the cost of a bulb. New bulbs always pay for themselves.

I'm seeing the difference already. First new set of bulbs in 5 or 6 grows.
