My crazy method. day 22 flower

hi all. i grow in a 4ft high by 22 width and depth inches cabinet :-O Small space, verrry small space!!! Its the only cabinet i could find. I cut a square out at the top and made way for duct venting from the HPS shade into the HVK extract fan and into a budget carbon filter. I also have an effiecent drip system. the water drips from the pots will go a certain way through a hole into small tub's under the cabinet and i replace them after waterings.
just to give a brief recap on the journey so far.. 5 seeds from nirvana. Feminised NL. All of them sprouted. 100% success :0)
I had to get rid of the weaker two at the back to make more space. they were in small pots anyway.
they grew really well with no problems throughout seedling and veg growth. they loved it when i put the 250w hps on them.
Ive done alot of tying down on the two plants and bound them around the walls to try and control where they grow in my cabinet.
I fed them terra canna grow in veg. and now feeding terra bloom for flower.

Here they are today at day 22. the third plant i have bent the stem slightly and its fallen abit and i have tyed that up so i think its okay.. but ive got them at the right height and tied them down good so i hope they will be okay i always check them if they are too close to the light.

Hey MoOcow,

Looks like you've got a nice little setup there. I think your already close to a setup called "SCROG" growing, and if you do a bit of reading up on it I think you could seriously increase your yield with that cabinet.
Basically the same thing your doing now, chicken wire has about the right size holes also.. you veg grow and keep the plant below the screen tying it all over while it spreads out to fill the screen. Align the budsites with the holes in the chicken wire feeding them upward once the screen is filled up then flip to 12/12 to flower. Remove all vegetative growth beneath the canopy as it will no longer get light and will also waste plant energy trying to save it.

Hope ya don't mind the suggestion. Just looked like your almost there and I've seen some great SCROG grows with 250w lights..

How's your heat? Plenty of fresh air in? good luck man.:yeahthats

nice set up but i think you need to remove the screen and start over on some bending. make sure the plants are nice and watered and start lst tieing them down. your screen isnt doin anything productive for you.

you said its 4 feet high is the light all the way up?

good luck

Couldn't have said it better myself. What is the screen doing for you? The point of a screen is to create a canopy. You've got all kinds of growth under the screen, hanging out.

You're on the cusp of the fine art of ScrOG. We where just having a discussion about how to get benefits from screen usage over here:

Glad to see you are interested in ScrOG. As an old OG oficianodo and a religious practitioner of ScrOG I see the technique as a bit of a lost art. It seems many more attempts at horizontal gardening are just a cannabis plant with a screen in the middle, and not true ScrOG.

"True Scrog" I think is the practice of literally weaving the stems of your cannabis plant into a screen. As such:

......

Its a bit of trouble for sure, but there are benefits to be had if you use them. One of the biggest benefits is being able to take advantage of your lamp's light sphere. Every lamp/reflector combo has a different pattern in which it distributes light. I use foil-taped over-driven floros, so mine looks like this:

cross-section of my lamp

A very mild, gentle, parabolic curve. Because of this my ScrOG setup is truly flat. Or mostly. It also has a gentle (but negligable) downward curve. This is the origional configuration for ScrOG grows. Because it became so prolific it is popularly thought that all ScrOG grows should be flat. Not True. The flat ScrOG only helps if you have flat light. I do, most people don't. Let's look at GB420's lamp configuration:

cross section of GB420's lamp

Cool-tubed HPS. This throws off a much sharper parabolic curve. Because of the reflector it is a bit 'deeper' straight down than it is off the sides.

ScrOG is all about taking advantage of the induvudual quirks of the light you happen to work with. When I say "take advantage" it helps to understand the INVERSE SQUARE LAW:

There are a lot of maths, but for us it means this; As you get further away from a lamp the energy delivered to that location drops EXPONENTIALLY. So having the buds 8 inches away from a lamp instead of 4 isn't half as bad, its worse by a whole order of magnitude!

So! In a perfect world we would try to fit all of our nugs into our own unique light sphere somehow. ScrOG is an attempt at doing this.

Why have you got a flat screen coupled with a round light?

Screen in that configuration is doing little for you. If you wanted to grow tall and thin don't do ScrOG, do the opposite and go SOG:

cram a dozen of these motherfuckers in your 22x22x48 cabinet.

If you're gonna screen then use the strengths it provides. You're using a flat screen on a round light, netting you little benefit. If you went to a curved, or better yet, vertical screen then you could possibly be helping yourself.

Sorry mate, don't mean to pee in your wheaties! I grew in tight spaces for years, I'm all about making the best of situations like yours. Just as a personal practitioner of ScrOG flat screen training I can't look upon your usage of the technique in good faith. I wish for all gardeners to get the biggest amount of the best cannabis they can with the recources at their disposal and frankly, I think you could do much better!

Flat
screens are for flat lights:

You're cheating yourself with that flat screen mate. Trust me, I'm a ScrOG grower, I love flat screens, but it Isn't for you. Finish out this grow as best you can and then looking into converting that baby into an asymetrical curved ScrOG or go vertical. Other than that screen training is of limited use for your tall-n-skinny situation. There are pleanty of solutions for netting a great yield of great bud from a funky space like yours, but a flat horizontal screen coupled with an HPS is not one of them.

Alll that space beneith the screen there is pretty much wasted. Your plants went to a lot of effort to grow a lot of stems that will yield you no ganja. None! What's the point of growing weed in a space if you don't fill it with buds?

Happily, you've come to just the right place to do some brain storming. An odd space like yours will take creativity to boost yield numbers on, but I think a significant improvement over what your current setup will do you should be easy to attain.

:2cents:

this lady largely knows her stuff...heh heh...she's right, you should really consider goin vertical next time. punch that light(with a cool tube, of course) right down the center of that jungle and capitalize on any lost light you may have...other than that, it still looks good. good luck.

Is this your first grow OP? If so don't let em get you down you're doing a good job, at least you'll get SOMETHING to smoke from it, so that's what matters on the first couple tries. Bonus, next time you'll know what NOT to do so you can learn from your mistakes and make it that much better. Peace and good luck!
