How is Oregon looking for people who want to move there?
I've wanted to move to Oregon for a long time. I've never been there, but from what I find it looks so beautiful. Brookings seems to be my dream city, Medford, Salem, and other cities I like them also.
The only problem is now that I'm ready to move next spring/summer, everything I read on city-data, and other sites suggest that Oregon has a high cost of living, high unemployment, and a simple man like myself wouldn't have much of a chance.
But all the data I tend to read is from 2007/2008. Are things getting better there, and are jobs really that hard to find? I wouldn't mind working 2 jobs, gas station attendant, dishwasher, whatever. But with 10-15% unemployment rate, it seems like all of these types of jobs would be taken as well. I need to get the fuck out of this place!
I've been doing tech support for computers, and crap like that for 4 years. Other than that I don't really know any trades, or have any particular skill sets but I'm crazy when it comes to learning new things.
So to summarize my long winded question, if I move to Brookings (or some other awesome NW city) next summer with my wife and 2 kids am I going to be screwed when I try looking for work and a house to rent?
