Change over to Peat Pucks (Jiffy Pellets) which should speed up the rooting time + higher % rooting success:yes:,
i used to use Root Riots cubes but results weren't great (around 65-70% success). moved over to the Jiffy's and had 100% rooting on everything so far (and quick - 7-10 days max). plus the roots seem to explode in the Jiffy's:joint:

I've had trouble making clones in the past.

IMO...One of the most important things is to get the mother plant nice and healthy before taking cuts.

I prefer rock wool cubes to peat pellets. anything that can go wrong using rw can also go wrong using peat.

I am quite interested in trying out PET cubes: http://www.suretogrow.com/index.php?id=11

Too much light

Too much light

I had the same problem as you; my clones were taking forever to root. Some of them were actually growing leaves underneath the neoprene pucks in my aerocloner. I had a dual 48" 40 watt fluorescent fixture suspended just a few inches above the cuttings. I took the leaf growth as a clue that the cuttings were trying to keep growing instead of shooting new roots. So I raised the lights to about 2 feet above the tops of the cuttings and suddenly roots were popping out everywhere in just a couple of days! I was clearly giving them WAY too much light. I think a couple of 13w CF bulbs would suffice for cloning in my aerocloner next time around.

Not to add yet another 'recipe' but here's my method;
Mini greenhouses made with 16oz or 9oz solo cups filled about 1/3 with either straight perlite or a mix of p and vermiculite and covered with saranwrap held on with a rubberband (don't forget drainage holes). Too much light isn't good with any method. I think it should be low enough that there's no new leaf growth, which under 48" 40w's is at least a foot or more.

man i hate how people right up such an elaborate method to cutting clones, its a lot easier then you guys thinks... just cut what you wana clone at angle dip in cloning gel, and put into 72 seed tray with promix as medium. put a humidity cover over it open every other day and mist with plain water maybe a drop of some grow to keepem green. dont buy rockwool cubes, or waste your money on cloning spray cuz u dont need it. pick, dip, into promix, humidity cover on, spray every other day roots in 1-2 weeks... simple as that... ive been using this other method recently where i just take my clones and let them root in a glass of water for a few days, when i c the white tail forming an plant them. hopefuly you will adopt and easier and more successful method for next time around. hope this helps

I will give that a try for sure, I am lookin for a simple cost effective way do do this. Thank you for the idea. What is your success rate??

Thanks, I will try your method as well. I will try any method until I find the one I like the best and works well. Thanks a bunch:joint:

maybe quit pulling your cuttings out of the rockwool cubes to check for roots, yes they are rooting though sounds like. happy days!
when you run out of rockwool cubes, try the oasis cubes previously mentioned. I think you'll like them better. they are pH neutral and easy to work with.

-i spray with superthrive 2 drops per gallon, for me. ive seen a big difference in number of roots sticking out.
-peat pucks(dont let them dry out, dont let them soak, neutral, about 2-3 days sweating in the dome till next watering. which is a gentle misting and making sure hte pucks have a bit of water in them, but dont drown the roots.
-low intensity light, i found t5's work best for me, they didnt like 23w cfls as much as they like my 2x 6k kelvin t5s, fricken bushes once they root
-i make the cut at 45degree to the stem, dip and let sit in rooting gel with fungicide, then stick into rooting powder, then squeeze excess water from jiffy puck, rotate grip on puck 90* and squeeze again, the puck opens up like you created a fault line in the jiffy. insert cut. squeeze tightly around cut. trim cuts to have small number of nodes. take away dying leaves, if any. trim big leaves back to small length leaves, taking the tips off, then there's not much to go yellow now is there?!
i usually get roots from 10-15 days average, sometimes it does take much longer if you FKed with the plant, rotating it inside the puck, so it damages the stem where roots are taking hold, etc. but by 2 weeks, i ALWAYS, 99% get uber roots coming out. so many they grow into the puck next to it....until just lately, after about 4 months, ive had 100% success in my little clone cabinet. astonished

i reuse the same bottle for dipping my clones into the gel, not like they have STDs...but i use a little cup for rooting hormone powder, it takes in dirt a lot easier than the gel, as long as the stems are dirt free, i dont see any issues, and obviously my method doesnt see any issues either. here's 2 cents

ps, i read someone said youre taking them OUT of the cubes?! oh man, do not mess with them once they get into their medium! numba won rool! second is dont let dry out...third is dont overwater...high humidity, not torrential downpour on them:p add some heat underneath, you is golden homeslice.

I only after 15 days of seein no roots cut a slit in the side of a cube to take a peek.:joint:

well okay. ive ripped out quite a few roots doing that with the peat pucks...it's hard to tell in that dark little crevice. but patience works..

well yeah if you want simple and cheap fill a glass with fresh water, take some cuts drop em in put em in the corner of your grow room and dont look at em for a few weeks.

dont need to be under T5s

I usually have 5-6 of these all over the place when I try to scale down my mothers and take more cuts than I have rapid rooters for, and when I finally remember to do something with them they have roots.

mist your plants with water before taking cuttings.

Some plants also may need some scarification, which is putting a few small gentle nicks in the green layer near the cut or simply brushing the cut area with the dull side of the razor causing a very light bruise, but I wouldnt recommend that if your having problems rooting already. Make sure you put the cut under water immediately after taking the cut to avoid an embolism.
