owned a 6'' and an 8'' vortex. never did me wrong, seen a few other competitors products that some friends have bought and while they worked, they seemed to be inferior in quality and parts used.

Hey man. I can't speak for Vortex, but I can speak for a company called "CAP", Custom Automated Products. They make "Valuline" models that are very reliable, quiet, and met or exceeded my expectations for a fraction of the cost of a Vortex fan. They also offer a 5 year no hassle warranty.

Take a look here.

Vortex has a 10 year warranty. That speaks volumes on their confidence in their product. I own can-fans, valulines, and vortexes. I wish I would've bought all vortex now in hindsight, they're quieter, better warranty, better mounting brackets with more options to hang your fan, better build quality, and so on.

I'd recommend Vortex, you'll be glad you spent the dough. :2cents:

Sound is my number 1 concern (after the reliability of the product). Anyone know exactly which (of the major manufacturers) makes the quietest fan? I'll looking for a 6". I have a Can Fan and a FanTech.. wondering if there are any that a quieter. maybe its the vortex or the valueline?

I have the ecoplus inlines, one has been running for 3 years non stop, still working great never a problem with any of them.

Listen to me jerky
I have both a ecoplus and a vortex. I prefer the fit and finish of the vortex personally. Haven't had a problem with either of them. For a company to put a 10 year warranty on their product says a lot to me. Although the chances of me being able to keep a receipt for that long is rather slim.

Any centrifugal is going to scream like a banshee with a bullhorn set to 11. I'm talking Cape Canaveral at liftoff loud.

If the fan can be isolated from ALL visitors (locked doors, attics, basements) they can be tamed to the point the noise stays in the room. If the grow is in any sort of common area that allows visitors I'd be looking at S&P or Panasonic Whisperfans

Thanks Freezer. Loved you're Thunk grow and the avaitar. I remeber the first time i saw that... laughed out loud and i was alone.

I'm going through that fan thread now, thanks for posting it.

I have my 2 fans currently inside of a locked tent inside of a locked room and i can still hear them when i get near the door. It's not really a huge deal... its not a dead give away or anything. my Can 33 with fresh carbon keeps the air clean as morning. Sound coming from my fans is about 10th on my never ending list of grow upgrades but since i have to buy a new one i might as well keep it quite.

ok, thanks again. off to read.

Given your security level and the fact you need to be near the door to hear them, a muffler may be all you need. Easy to make, it really works.

i have used VOrtex, dayton, hydrofarm, and rvk.....I will never buy another fan unless its a vortex....plain and simple....i got mine off Ebay for 6" used with a speed controller for $115....Best fan ive ever used!

good drown

go with vortex.
all these other fans will say they are just as good, well its really 1 thing that matters for these fans, its all in the bearings and motor. while cheaper ones will blow as hard and "quite(more like loud) but the vortex will last longer. why? static pressure, vortex is made to handle alot more than the rest, which takes its toll on others.
also, as fars as noise goes, there is just as much or more noise coming from tubing than the fan. running a larger sized ducting will minimize that

check out the STANLEY BLOWER FAN they got em at ace and home depot. ive seen them go for between 40 and 60 bux. look in the diy links for different mods. 3 speed fan control pretty quiet for how much air it moves! :abduct:

I am extremely pleased with my Soler & Palau fans.. having a small tent in the bedroom sound was my number one concern.. a 4" centrifugal from HTG sounded like a jet engine at night... replaced with 6" S&P and it's practically silent.

If sound is not a factor, use a Can MAX fan. I have found those to work the best. Best for venting out aircooled hoods. It screams like a banshee though. I have the Vortex, Sunleaves Windtunnel, and the Can MAX fans. The windtunnel creates the least amount of noise, vortex is in the middle, the can MAX is the loudest.

If you want something to scrub the air with a carbon filter, you can go with something that is quieter.

I went with Vortexes (Vortices?) years ago because they moved more air than similar competitor fans, and seemed like they were built to last. I've never regretted that decision and still have my two original fans, as well as several other Vortex fans in my arsenal. Wrapped in 8 inches of foam padding quiets the motors down a lot, as does suspending them from bungee cords. Mine are much quieter when run horizontally instead of facing up or down too. Speed control is a must, use a Grozone Temp2v if you need separate day/night programs for $109.
