70w hps club

That could be why the 70w cooked it up in there. The benefit to the 70w hps over the spiral cfls is that the ballast can be mounted outside the grow area. This makes it easier to cool where you are growing.

I love how easy it is to create a remote ballast!!!

With the 70wHPS security light I bought, all I had to do was add in some wire between the socket and the bits in the housing. There you go remote ballast.

My ballast now sits on the side of my box and out of the way so none of its heat affects the box.

im not sure how hot the 70w ballast got, didnt seem too bad anyway and it was enclosed in the fixture. i found the bulb put out silly amounts of heat, touch it and it would burn you. regardless a 80mm pc fan was able to keep the cab just cool enough.
another ballast i have, a 250w, that gets so hot you could smell it burning the paint coating :yoinks:

I love the hint of purple on the tops of those leaves, than BAM you see the underside!

is that a true purp or does it just get cold in your cab?

How many plants you got? One plant can fill a scrog but two plants can fill it twice as fast. I think the 70w is good for about 1.5 sq. ft. of flat screen. If you curve the ends of the screen up you can get a larger screen area. How big is your area?

Hey grouchy(or anyone else with a 70w), could you measure from base of the socket to tip of the bulb for me? im trying to figure how to fit it into my PC case, and i don't have a 70w yet.. so if its too big i prolly wont get one.

Thanks

I use the reflector that came inside my security light and its 6 7/8" from a little bit behind the socked to about 1/8" past the lamp.

So the socket and lamp together on my application is 6 3/4" long.

If anyone elses is a different size you should also chime in. Just to see if there are variances.

Was this measurement not accurate?

I would measure mine but I put my 100w cmh in today and the socket is in a cool tube and would be a pretty big pain to take apart and put back together again.

Yes it was, but... I doubt they are all the same just want to see if anyone else has input on how others measure up. I would hate to spend $50 if it might not fit.

I picked up a 100w hps on clearance at lowes for $25. Would have been a good deal if I had a need for a 100w hps. It is just sitting in a drawer right now.
