Do you use a jeweler's loupe or anything else to check the color of your trichs? If you do, are you keeping up with that progress at all to help determine when and which plants get harvested? I'm sure even though they mostly look similar, there are different pheno types in there that mature at different rates. Regardless, it looks like you've got some dank and tasty pot to smoke and more on the way! I'm upping my guess on yield to 103 :) can I do that??

.JPG

Yeah Im using a 30x loupe. There had been maybe 10% amber trichs on all the plants for a few days before I chopped the 2 little ones, and now tonight some plants have what I would say is 20-25% amber. I will probably chop 2 more tonight, not quite sure though.

Nice grow man. A friend of mine is also growing DR. He has 2 going now. They are 2 weeks old but look nothing a like. These 2 got stressed real bad. I think the peat dried up on him. for a day or more a couple times... At one point they were stems only every thing else dried up and nearly fell off. I thought they were going to die but they pulled through and here they are.

DR 1

DR 2

The DR are in the skull cups.

Both DR's were planted on the same day. But as you can see not all plants are created equal. The leaves and size are so different. Did you have that much variation in yours?

Well, there was definitely quite a few different sized plants out of the original 20 I started, but none of them looked anything liek your DR2. The leaves seem much thinner than all the DRs Ive grown, but hey, maybe its a crazy variation that will look totally different, that culd be fun too :)

Horrific? Those are beautiful! I never knew they could develop purple color on the buds. I got 2 seeds of DR i'm going to be running with 3 LR1's soon. If I get a male i'm gonna cross them whether it's DR x DR or LR1 x DR.

Thanks for sharing your soil and nutes, that's what i'm trying to get together. I like the sounds of going organic as possible now though. I prefer a good taste, smoke, and high above anything else. Would your nutes be considered organic?

Edit: You grew those in 2 liter bottles and they didn't seem to get that tall. I'm planning to use 20 or 32 oz gatorade bottles. Ever try those? How do you think these would fair in them? I don't really know, but i'm guessing there might not be much of a difference and dropping to to a container smaller than a 2 liter bottle would allow more space and possibly more plants.

I would say that my nutes are not completely organic. I used a bit of organic blood meal for the first 2 weeks in the soil, then put some organic bone meal in the new soil when they went into the 2 liters. The non organic part was the Schultz 10-15-10, and I used this mainly because I dont like ordering online for this stuff and there are no hydro shops in my state, let alone my area :( As far as the Gatorade bottles go, you should be fine as long as you make sure to really flush them every time you water, and make sure your soil doesnt compact too much or you will be waiting 15+ minutes for each one to drain. Alternatively you can dip them up to the top of the soil until they stop bubbling like Dr BudGreengenes does. HERE is a link to his awesome thread, he uses 20oz soda bottles cut to 16oz!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and feedback. I will make sure to take some nice detailed pics of each plant I harvest as I harvest them, and at the end Ill post all 8 weekly pics so you can watch them grow all over again :)

Well I chopped 2 more girls down tonight and it took the wife and I about an hour to trim them both up. I took a few pictures of each, but none of the mini fridge. Since I will just be removing 2 plants at a time I think I will only take pics of the individual plants from here on out.

These 2 girls were chopped on Day 66. Here are some pictures of the first one, which had about 25% amber trichomes.

Here are some pictures of the 2nd one I chopped. The trichomes on this one were easily 30% maybe even 40%. A couple trichomes were even turning dark brown so Id say she was ready!

Well they weren't the largest of my girls, but still weighed in pretty well. The smaller 2 that I chopped a few days ago are just about ready to be jarred up to cure for at LEAST a week before smoking :) Got about 1/2oz left of some crap I bought recently, will hopefully be the last bag I buy for some time. Ill continue to take pics of the rest of the plants as I harvest them, so stay tuned the end is almost here :)

You hit it man, the dr bud method of dunking the bottles is what I plan to use. Airy and light soil with large chunk pearlite. Considering messing around with a small tote turned into a wick system with some of these too.

Tasty lookin buds mmmm. :joint: I like the idea of taking down the plants in intervals to get a feel for the type of high they give. Am I mistaken or have your shortest plants weighed the most so far?

Yeah I have given serious consideration to the DrBud way of things. I cant tell you how sick I am of my watering table. It allows me to place up to 3 plants at a time on it and I just let the water drain through the screen which is nice, but I have to wait for them to drain each time before adding more. If I could figure out a way to submerge them all at once I would be a happy camper for sure, gonna have to work on that....or go hydro :chin::chin::chin:

As far as yield goes, the first 2 I chopped were my smallest and so far my lightest when wet. I had to have weighed the smallest one (very first plant I chopped) wrong because it actually ended up being 13.9g DRY!!! I was so excited, that means I should easily get 14g dry off all the others. Even though it was smaller in height than the other one I chopped that day, it had more buds and they were more dense. The other one weighed in at 12.4g dry! Things are looking up thats for sure, and a buddy of mine is about to come pickup my big fridge and cram it wall to wall with Diesel Ryders, should be exciting!!

Looking good on the staggered harvest! It's making me think my revised yield estimate might come in a little low still, I sure hope so at least.

I looked through this thread but couldn't find an answer to my question: Did you just grow one Apollo 11? I know thats all you harvested but how many did you start with? I'm trying to gauge my chances of getting a pheno that has that low of an odor and I'm curious what growth traits any other A11s might have shown. My ability to grow, at this point, is really hinged on being able to get odor ELIMINATED. Not reduced, masked, covered-up, changed, but actually ELIMINATED. I've got carbon filters and an ozone gen I'm happy with so I think the addition of a very low odor strain might make it "enough".

I hope to see more updates every few days, I'm loving that fridge atm! Keep up the good work

Heya JPG

I started with 6 Apollo11 and 6 Diesel Ryder when I did that grow. I ended up with 2 Diesel Ryder females and only 1 Apollo11 female unfortunately :(

The female that I finished looked just like every other plant except one when they were vegging. One plant topped itself and was generally more bushy than the others. 5 of them, including the female shot up pretty quick at around 20-25 days old, nearly doubling in height. Once I put the female under 12/12 she doubled in height once more to a height of about 23" in less than 3 weeks. Afterwards she stopped growing vertically, however, the top bud got so large that it added 3" to the height :)

The structure was PERFECT for a large scale SOG, as i did nothing to train it, vegged it on 20/4 for 4 weeks, and it still grew one main stalk with lots of FAT buds. The top 3-5 buds formed an amazing cola considering the low wattage they were grown under. I honestly cant wait to start growing more, only using 12/12 from seed this time to keep them short. The odor would require LIGHT scrubbing, and smells more like lettuce than anything. The smoke is so worth the lack of smell and intense flavor, it will knock your shit sideways!! You must start a log as soon as you get some in soil or water man, Im so curious to watch more grow.

Probably 2 more posts of update & tons of pics coming right up :)

That sounds awesome man. Ive always told myself that when I do it over again I will go with something taller and use 2 150w or a 250w HPS. What I would really like to do is get a conversion ballast (I think thats what they're called) so I can put a MH bulb in for the first part and swap it out for an HPS when ready to keep the nodes a bit closer.

Haha, take on a project of your own and use any or all of the information found here and I promise the plants will teach you more than I ever could. Especially if you kill them, its the best way to learn :p

Thank you :)

The night I tried updating ICMAG wouldn't let me upload pics. I was able to log on last night and upload all the final harvest pics from my last 4 plants but it got real late so I didn't finish the update. The worst part is that my power went out last night and I had 80% of the update typed up ready to insert pics so Ill have to do that all over again. Hopefully tonight I will be able to sit down and finish it up, it will be a long one, followed by week to week shots of the cab :) Thanks everyone for your support, I should have a final weight for the whole run in about 2-3 days.

So you are shutting down the fridge after this grow? I hope you go out with a BANG and a big yield! I'm ready to see the final harvest pics and get a rough idea of your final harvest weight. Wait a minute... you haven't uploaded the pics but I'm sure you've weighed 'em. What are the wet weights KB?

Well, last night was very crazy and I didn't even turn my computer back on till this morning. I will for sure finish up the thread tonight when I get home unless some unforeseen circumstance prevents it.

As far as wet weights on my last 4, I wrote them down at home but the smallest of the 4 was 68g and the largest was 87g. That was with stem and all but the final yield should still satisfy me just fine. Sorry again for the delay, wish me luck tonight :p

Oh and about shutting the fridge down; I am only getting rid of my large fridge. between fighting with outside ambient temps, weak lights that I cant afford to upgrade, and worrying about opening my garage door I decided to donate it to a good friend in need. He will be starting a diesel ryder SOG of his own that will hopefully shame mine on the amount of plants hell use. The mini fridge, however, is here to stay for good. I thought about designing another larger cab and using the mini fridge for a mother/clone/af strain cab. Have 1-2 mothers, 4-8 clones and possibly even 3 or 4 Diesel Ryders. Before I build anything else though I need to get settled into my new home, and I still want to get a 12/12 from seed Apollo11 grow started in the mini fridge. Till then Ill have to try and make the stuff I just harvested last....which wont happen but hey I can try :) :joint::bongsmi::sasmokin::rasta::kos::canabis::smoke:

Are you holding out on the final harvest pics because you're trying to build the anticipation? How much is your yield man and what does the pile look like ;) ??

Well I finally have the time to sit down at my computer once more. I have a lot of stuff to post and Ill probably separate it into 2 or 3 posts total. Since I have so many pictures Ill just let them do most of the talking. Lets start with the lineup. To make things easiest Ill refer to the remaining 4 plants as Plants 5-8.

One odd thing I noticed as i was hanging up the buds was on one plat the lower buds almost looked like they had seeds. I cut open a couple of what looked like seed pods and they were empty. Here's a couple pictures of the 2 buds, think they started to go hermie from the heat?

OK that's all for the final update. Ill post another thread with week by week pics
and final yeild/smoke report, hopefully right after this one.

That's all of the group pictures I took since after week 8 I started removing the girls a couple at a time. The final 4 plants finished right at 9 weeks from seed. The only thing I would do differently is to make sure that the bulb stays MORE than 4 inches from the tops of the plants at all times. I think next time I will aim for 6 inches and put a bit stronger computer fan in there. You can tell on all of the top buds that they got a little crispy and I think this could have played part in causing the purple discoloration.

I have had the bud curing in mason jars for 2-5 days now depending on when the plants were chopped. So finally, we get to the final dry weight, smoke report and finished bud pictures.

Final Dry Weight

Plant 1 = 13.9g
Plant 2 = 12.4g
Plant 3 = 14.8g
Plant 4 = 14.2g
Plant 5 = 16.4g
Plant 6 = 20.9g
Plant 7 = 16.1g
Plant 8 = 16.7g
Picked early for sampling = 4.8g

TOTAL WEIGHT = 130.2 GRAMS or 4.65 OUNCES!!!
GRAMS PER WATT = 0.868

Smoke Report
This is the fourth diesel ryder harvest Ive had so far, and each time it has gotten better. The taste is so familiar to me because of how distinct it is. Its like my favorite soda or ice cream, other types are good but I will always know this one the second I taste it. That alone makes everything worth while. The high gets better with the age of the bud for sure. I can tell a significant difference in the bud that has been cured for 5 days vs. the bud that has been cured for 2. It is a mostly heady high, not extremely motivating but in small amounts it can be. It is a great relaxing high overall, and PERFECT before bedtime. A large bong bowl shared with my wife (the only pothead i know that smokes more than me) will last multiple sessions. It usually takes us 4 hours or so to finish a full bowl, especially how dense the bud is. The top buds, even though they are a tad harsh, are noticeably more potent.

I must say, considering this was my first ever HID grow, and that I didn't use a high spectrum for the first 2 weeks which I would like to have, I was pretty impressed with the results. I was most impressed with how well the side buds added up. The top buds were the most dense and heavy, weighing from 5 to 8 grams each. In the pictures above, I only used the top bud or buds from each plant because I didn't feel like digging the rest out of the jars. The 2 small buds were the largest ones off the plant that had topped itself, thus it didn't have one particular top bud.

Thanks to everyone for hanging in there for the final update. I hope the wait was worth it. With the slight burning of the tops and possible hermaphrodite action I still ended up with plenty of damn good smoke. Everyone I have shared this with has been very amazed. The smell alone is just so pungent and distinct it will open anyone's eyes. NOT recommended for travel unless you use an air tight container and keep it CLOSED. I had a little bud in my car all day and when I went to get in the next day i could smell it before opening the doors with the windows UP!! i highly recommend this strain to anyone that doesn't have to worry about odor or thinks it would be worth the risk. You must try it at least once, and if it is ever presented to you again you will know right away.

Ill stick around to answer any questions or reply to comments. So ask away and I hoped you enjoyed the ride as much as me!
