Here's another ship only option unless you're lucky enough to be local. 150w HPS remote ballast, lamp, reflector AND shipping. $80 (last time I checked) HTG Supply, "discreet" shipping. htgsupply.com. For a little more $, you can customize the bulb and accessories.

Another shipping only option is e-conolight.com. They're almost identical to the Sentry brand security lights at Lowes. I picked up one with an extra bulb last year for ~$52 shipped.

I just thought I would rub it in that my 150w from e-conolights was $35 shipped. :nanana: I musta got one of the last ones. I would think that sales from a 150w HPS would be down because of fluorescent lamps replacing them. I bet they where scratching their heads wondering why no companies bought them, but loads of people just wanted to purchase only one of them. Then, I'm sure they figured it out. :canabis:

would a 150hps in a closet(under stairs) about 8 ft long, 2.5 fts wide in one spot and then about 6ft in another and about 6 ft tall in parts and then 4ft tall in others be big enough to not have to run an exhaust, this is a getto run and im trying ot finish my outdoor girls inside because of the weather, i dont think with a space this big my temps should really get to bad? what do u guys think about this space without an exhaust other then opening the door ocasionaly, ive run a 400hps and metal halide in the past as well as a 1000mh but in much bigger spaces, ive never sun a 150hps , thx mates.

Tough call. I'm guessing with the door partially open it should be OK. However, if your ladies are close to finishing, and thereby likely tall, the tops will be near the light where all the heat build-up will occur. I'd at least try to keep a fan going in there moving the cooler floor air up to displace the hot air at the top. It might help to even out the temps enough to work. How big are the plants and how close to finishing?

Before you buy a new timer, test the light by itself. Try another bulb. I might even consider calling HTG to see if they are familiar with the problem.

That ballast has a capacitor that holds a charge, even when unplugged. If you tinker with the ballast, be sure to discharge the cap for safety.

pipe dreams ill be putting my plant more on an angle almost putting them sideways if u will and tie the branches down even more then they already are, the plants bascially about 3ft by 2.5fts of a scrogged well trained wall of budd sites, the light will be hung vertically inside a horizontal reflector, im suprised the heat would be to much for such a large space, its shaped like an L. but like i said about 6 feet deep, parts are 5-6ft tall parts are 4ft tall, width is about 3 fts to 5ft at its max, maybe ill just go buy 3-68 watt cfls and hang them vertically in the middle of my two girls lst style.

... is there some small mechanical switch that ignites the bulb?

You have an ignitor. Not sure if a swinging door would effect a faulty ignitor though, lol.

i dont think it is the bulb, but i can try a new one to see.
Always a good idea to have a spare bulb or three. Especially 150s because they're so cheap.

i cant return it because i had to add a inline plug to get the cord into the grow box, but i will call them to see if they have any ideas.

That's the place I'd start troubleshooting. Sounds like a short anyway. Did the lamp work fine for a significant amount of time after your cord modification? Did the problem start as soon as you added the timer? If so, try the lamp w/o the timer. Otherwise, double and/or triple check the mod connections.

Leviathan - If they are close to finishing, I'd try the HPS for sure. While it will generate more heat than CFL's, the light spectrum it produces is far better for this stage of growth. With a small fan inside the closet area moving the air around you'll likely be OK.

Of course this is JMHO and you really won't know for sure unless you give it a shot.

i was sure if the slight movement of the box just gave it enough to close (like its not completely closing on its own?)

it had worked for months prior to this.

im gonna get a few extra bulbs, i think that may be the problem.

thanks for the help.
