Homemade colloidal silver is dark because of the silver oxide (silver rust essentially, the biproduct of the electrolysis), and if you start with rusty silver the colloid will get darker quicker than if you start with clean silver. The CS you buy from the pharmacy has this filtered out, because the idea is to drink the suspended silver (the element), not the silver oxide (a compound of silver + oxygen). I'm sure it'd still be safe to drink, but ..... erk, no thanks!
My plants don't mind the silver oxide tho ... :)

yea this was regular distilled water, crystal clear before the 8 hours. When i woke upin the morning and looked and seen the thick layer of melted silver on top i was completely supprised. I didnt expect anything like that, maybe a little discolorment but after i stirred up the mixture it was as brown as mud. I guess this mixture would have a very high ppm. I never got a chance to use it b/c the plant i was going to use it on hermied on its own. Im gonna order some good feminised seeds, then take clones from them and use the cs on the clones. Ill let everyone know how it turns out, its gonna be about 6-9 months before you can expect results.

Sorry to hear your plant was a hermie, but you've done the right thing by not using it as a source for feminised pollen ... it would've only caused you more grief ahead!

I spoke with the lady at the health food store and she gave the scoop on colloidal silver. You can buy it over the counter from about 15 - 60 PPM and it is mostly safe for human consumption only if you follow directions. It basically works as an antibiotic and is definitely not something you would want to take on a regular basis. One bad side effect from overdoing it is it will turn your skin BLUE! She said she knows 4 blue people.

I went back and read one of the original threads that started this conversation and see that the store bought variety is not strong enough for reversal purposes. It also mentions using only distilled water, 99.9 pure silver (US coin silver is 90% and 10% copper), an air stone similar to those used buy fisherman to keep bait alive, 6 volts @ 300-900 mA for 5-7 hour at 70 degrees F is optimal. It is also important to be sure to keep the leads (alligator clips etc..) out of the water. Only the aerator stone with air tube and the pure silver should be in the water. This actually results in Ionic Silver and is the perfect grade to bring on a few bananas. The author also points out the importance of pre-stressing to be sure you have a hermie resistant plant to begin with.

When I get around to having genetics worth the trouble, I think I'll take 1 awesome clone to turn over then use that pollen to impregnate my girls with.

Thanks again for this thread, I've certainly learned a lot and I'll look forward to seeing the results posted by past and future readers of this.
