Iolite Portable Vaporizer

Ok, I have had mine about two weeks. I can occasionally see something when I exhale but it is very elusive. As I reported before, I do get high using it though.

The Pro's
Very Discreet -- elusive exhale means almost no smell. And the smell is sort of unique anyway. It was great this weekend when I had the parents staying with me.

Smoothness -- Certainly makes the harshest stuff I have very tolerable.

The Con's
1. Long Set Up Time
2. Seems to take much more to get the same effect as my water pipe. While I have not tested this exactly, I am certain that it is about 50% as efficent.
3. The pain of grinding.
4. Lose most of the taste. I like the taste and miss it.
5. The cost.

Wondering if I should contact iolite and complain like MDBudz. $250 is steep for something that I would rarely use. And it seems like so many others have had a better experience I think something must be wrong with mine. I probably will but hate to have to ship it used across the water.

it takes more cause you arent getting proper vapor hits. if you aren't exhaling vi sable vapor than you aren't getting all of it.yea i can vape on a low enough temp with my ssv to feel some effects without visable vapor but nothing like when the heat is turned up proper. on f combustion some people reported huge clouds though maybe you should tweak your method. also what original posted doesnt seem very well vaped. i could get like 2-3 hits off of that from my ssv or vg.

Very Discreet -- elusive exhale means almost no smell. And the smell is sort of unique anyway. It was great this weekend when I had the parents staying with me. One of the best times to use it, when you have guests over that you don't want smelling your medicine.

Smoothness -- Certainly makes the harshest stuff I have very tolerable. Amen to that! Whenever I have shake, or stuff that I know is going to be harsh/taste bad, it immediately gets put in my "vape shake" jar.

The Con's
1. Long Set Up Time not so bad if you always have ground herb ready.
2. Seems to take much more to get the same effect as my water pipe. While I have not tested this exactly, I am certain that it is about 50% as efficent. Not my experience exactly, but I believe it's about 20% less efficient for me vs. using a glass pipe with a very small bowl (I can REALLY eek it out of those).
3. The pain of grinding. Pain? I don't find it a pain. And the bonus is that it nets me some nice kief as a result!
4. Lose most of the taste. I like the taste and miss it. This is probably my biggest issue with ALL vapes. I love the vaped taste from the Iolite, but I also love the taste of smoking my medicine. So it's a tradeoff of sorts for me.
5. The cost. Definitely not a poor man's medicating device.

Hope you have better success with yours when/if you get it replaced. My experience has been much better, so maybe it's that I got a nice working device and yours is flawed?

Man, without an accurate temp this is pretty much undependable.

Much more visible vape now than when I first bought it 9 months ago because I think I pack it better.

Iolite responded to my email and asked me to send it over minus the herb chamber. Sounds like they are going to make good on it. Will let everyone know how it works out.

Good luck Blue.

Regarding the mouthpieces I have trained myself yo be really careful. Never use the long tips. Only a short length with a hose. Remove the mouthpiece from the unit when done. Get the mouthpiece cooling of, not continue to bake with no material. I wouldn't cool it like underwater, as the sudden temp change might shock / crack.

Despite the breaking mouthpieces, if I lost mine today, I would overnight order another. I love the thing. Love the buzz.

Received email today from Ireland that my iolite has been repaired and shipped back. I mailed it to them on the 10th of September. No indication from them as to what they repaired (no vapor generated, I suspect thermostat set too low). Sure looking forward to receiving a unit that works.

how does the thermostat work? maybe they should revamp the model to make it adjustable? im not sure on the science though. im sure they would of done that if it was possible.

I believe the thermostat is solid state. Not adjustable. The temp is based on the length of the bi-metal used.

The thermostat is made from two strips of metal which are fused. Different metals expand at different rates when they become warm. It acts as a mechanical temp controller as it bends when it reaches certain temps.

I just heard about this yesterday at my home site, Treating Yourself. Looks pretty cool and within my budget.

Aha. So in reality, this would seem hard to screw up. Nice and stable

I received my repaired iolite back from Ireland yesterday. Although they never replied to my email asking what they had repaired, the unit does now work. I'm getting vapor! Besides actually getting vapor out of it now, the other thing I noticed is that the outside of the unit does not get as warm as it was prior to being sent back to the factory.

very interesting. Makes me wonder if insulation around the crucible was missing earlier. Is it your original unit returned or all new?

Excellent! Glad you had a good experience with their warranty service. And of course, I'm happy to hear it's now working for you!

well I got almost 2 days of use from my repaired iolite... this morning about 15 minutes into a session, the mouthpiece stem melted off.
