drying by leaving the buds on the plant?

i read somewhere that you can get awesome smelling bud by leaving your buds on the plants and leaving your plants in a dark room, is this a viable way to dry?

cut the stem and hang the whole plant? sure... I wouldn't do it though. I don't think it makes that much of a difference if any.

That's what I've always done. I do trim the leaves though. I believe the plant dries more slowly this way and gives you more control. Less likely to be too wet one day and then too dry the next.

Or am I misunderstanding the question? Are you talking about leaving the entire plant intact, roots and all, and just turning off the lights and not watering?

I have done this. There's no disadvantage to it that I have seen, but I'm also not sure it has any advantages.

There's just something I don't like about leaving the plant in the dark for a week or two, with the roots rotting away and getting stinky, encouraging bacteria and other funky stuff to set up camp. Just cut at the base and hang to dry, then you can take care of the root system before it starts to rot and stink up ya pad.

I grow organic, and leaving them in the dark for a while doesn't seem to hurt the soil biology any. I just let them dry out and die on the plant, in the pot. It's not how I always do it, but it's one method I have played with. If you have a space to try it, I don't think you'll need to be afraid of losing anything because of it.

aint that how some jamaicans grow it by harvesting it off the plant an not waterin it. its dry bud when harvested then, obviously not in the dark tho the plant still gets light an jus dies naturally. correct me if im wrong.
jus thought i seen an thing on tv where i see them harvesting dried bud from the plants in the ground i assumed thats wot they did. makes for easier harvest they stripped a plant in a matter of minutes using bare fingers, was a small strangly sativa thing tho.

Another thing - if you're growing in clay pebbles and want to recycle them for another grow then the sooner you do it after harvest the easier it is, while the roots are still strong and dont break apart as easily.

idk, do a side by side comparision. That's really the only way to know. I know ppl who let the plants sit in the dark for 3 days before chopping. Personally I don't think it makes a difference. It's just a myth as far as I'm concerned.

can you say mold...it's gonna happen as the plant dies and rots in the soil...cut, trim, and hang to dry very slowly...either that or plant better genetics as mentioned if you can't deal with what you are currently smoking...I always cure for at least 90 days prior to smoking...
