KILL SPIDER MITES DEAD!!! (NO pesticides)

I had some major spider mite trouble in the past and noone wants to use nasty chemicals or even sometimes neem oil is a chore. This involves Co2 so if you dont have any, its not cheap to get started but well worth the investment as it can be used for many things. I do suggest preventing these outbreaks initially in veg with a good neem product. (Einstein is the best Ive found). However to truly KILL EVERY BUG is too easy if you invest a few dollars. If you grow more than three plants and have any room at all this is a perfect solution. Before explaining this easy fix, I will start by telling you that eggs from these guys hatch in about two days at 90 degrees or hotter. and at 60 degrees it takes approx a month to hatch, so teperature is KEY. If you have any issues, first try and get that temp down. However either way this is one fullproof way to treat the actual plant. As for the room, clear it out (remove ALL plants)and use a pyrethrum bomb.
OK, go and find yourself a 50 gallon barrel (with sealable lid)(usually a blue barrel) at any farm store. If your plants are small enough to fit inside this barrel, great, too easy. Skip to next step. If they are larger and full of flowers, then cut a hole in the bottom of the 50 gallon barrel just the size of a five gallon bucket. Slide 5 gal bucket into the inside of 50 gal from the top and sit on the factory lip of the bucket down on the floor of the 50 gal barrel. Next set your plant inside the bucket (inside the barrel) and seal lid. This is now airtight. Your C02 hose is about 1/4 inch in diameter. Drill a small hole in the top of the lid(because C02 sinks) , and flood the barrel with C02. So simple. This removes all available oxygen for these bastards and within an hour, they are ALL DEAD!!!!! I call it my spider mite death chamber. Now this is obvoiusly much more Co2 than needed in your growroom(1500ppm or so) . Im guessing that they are dying with a ppm reading inside the barrel of around 15,000 ppm! This works especially well on the day of harvest. Good luck all! peace

will this process work for WhiteFlies ?? if the plants are large, do you do this process to each plant, seperately -- or jam them inside the barrel, and CO2 them all at once ??

nice idea.....i like.

it is, but for a short amount of time, it wont harm them, but i feel sorry for any critters in the grow room.

I use this method 3 times throughout a cycle, ive never seen a spidermite since ive been growing.

what if I just set my PPM super high and put my exhaust fan on a delay for an hour? same deal?

I know really high levels of c02 will kill stuff, just didnt know a temp bombing would be safe.

cool idea, easy too.

high co2 burns the hell outta plants, just as too high o2 burns our lungs. read a interesting thread here recently by a reputable grower about helium being used for this. he showed pics of what co2 does to them.

Do you have a link? I find this idea very interesting, good info OP!

i did it, in a 10x14ft room i emptied a whole 20lb tank in there. it works crazy good but the eggs still hatch. i used it because the plants where late into harvest. its actually cheaper once you buy the tank, only cost 20bucks to knock out every mite in your house.

the room feels crazy when you go back into it after 2hrs, there is a void of air,you cant breath when you go back into the room until you turn our outtake back on, or you will pass out and probably die in a pool of your own piss

mr dizzle....as least you're be found dead, piss or no piss, in your private garden. Not a bad way to go out.

but then, the spiermites win.....fuck...

Yeah, 10K PPM is the recommended dose for a bug-killing spree with CO2, takes an hour I've read. Too bad my building is like 10K cubic feet, I'd need a ton of it.

Welders sometimes use a 98% Argon 2% CO2 for MIG welds. I would think this would be perfect, less chance of burning the plant but still suffocating to the mites.

More commonly the mix would be 75% Argon, 25% CO2 , but still better than 100% CO2.

Im not 100 pecent sure but I do know that when you are harvesting plants crawling with bugs, this is a perfect pre-harvest kill method. As for treatment with the Co2 method in veg or early flower, short exposures of no more than an hour should probably be fine. Fortunately for me, I havent had any bugs for at least two years. The way it seems that most people get bugs is from their growing buddies visiting. BE CAREFUL with visitors and especially watch new cuttings from another location. Just because you dont see anything definetely doesnt mean that there are no bugs. I always take preventative spraying measures as well. Einstein oil works great.

Good point Sammy, preventative measures are much more effective and easier than treating an outbreak. I spray all my new clones with FLoramite SC and rarely if ever see a mite on a plant. They just won't touch em for 3-4 weeks after application.

or you can just use mite-rid

There is some shit from australia that is fairly new. Spider mits dont have a resistance to em. THis stuff is def the way to go. Ive only had em once, but this shit knocked em out quick.

just became available in the U.S. recently. Im hearing guys talk about how amazed they are that this shit works. My buddy got mites, and he battled them for a year in his garden before he finally just moved. He got em again, and used this shit and they were gone after one application.

heres some shit from the site

Spider mites destroy plant cells by sucking out their contents, and Mite-Rid works by providing a barrier which is harmless to the plant, but fatal to the mites. Some of the components of Mite-Rid are also absorbed by the plant and then suppress the life cycle of the mites. Mite-Rid uses a unique formula of botanical oils, including neem, garlic, eucalyptus plus surfactants to provide a protective barrier against many leaf eating pests, and most effectively, the Spider Mite.
The main active ingredient, neem oil, contains a limonoid called azadirachtin which has steroids (campesterol, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol) which interrupt the normal hormonal balance of mites, suppressing its reproductive cycle. The neem oil used in Mite-Rid is cold pressed, as only oil of this quality will contain these steroids.

Mite-Rid is fully bio-degradable and is not toxic to animals and under normal use will not affect the plant's metabolism. Highly effective against two-spotted and red mites, Mite-Rid is also reporting success with Eriophyid mites such as the "Fuschia Gall Mite" which is endemic to parts of California and also known as the "Mendo" or "Mendocino mini". Mite-Rid comes in a concentrate form, and the 45ml bottle mixes with water to make 18 litres ( 32.7 pints) of mite killing spray.
One thorough application is usualy enough, but heavy infestations may require two, as the tiny eggs can be a bit more resilient; so we recommend a second application in these cases.
Get them before they get your plants!

They say prevention is better than cure, and just a little Mite-Rid goes a long way to preventing mite infestation. A periodic spray with Mite-Rid is the best way to never see your plants suffering an attack of spider mites.
Remember, when it's hot, and dry, mites are just a gentle breeze away from your plants, and they usually go undetected until they've multiplied to plague proportions. Just one spray every few weeks in the hottest season will protect your crop from this near invisible pest.
Whether you're an indoor grower, greenhouse grower, hydroponic grower, or outdoor grower, sooner or later the mites will find you!

Don't wait to see the damage,
get them BEFORE they get your plants!

I used this shit because i had an infestation early. I read about it on a forum and got some. (i was lucky cuz only one retailer was even selling it in the u.s. at that point, and he had just started a month prior)

After one application everything was gone.

give this one a try if you got the mites. THIS SHIT WORKS!

I had really good luck dropping temps, I have a fresh air intake and the temps are COLD outside.

I dropped my temps to below freezing a couple times a week for a couple weeks, killed em all off it seems. Only pretty minor leaf damage from the cold. Was satisfied to not use any pesticides.
