Who's PH meter are you usin;, Hanna, Nutradip, Milwaukee. Many of the cheaper ones are sh!T.

apparently its one of the shit ones, hanna. it read 7.6 when i just looked at it. its worthless and would be thrown against the wall if i had my way.


im out of ideas so well just wait till tomorrow when we see if the ppm meter is reliable and go from there.

Try soaking it over night in pH 7 buffer. Then calibrate with fresh buffer. If it is going to work it should then.

try that sns...I know the meter is + or- .3....so that could be one thing. Try what hank said, and I will come get the pen tomorrow and take it with me to the shop when I go get the EC meter...Guess I gotta tell that guy we need some loochie, lol.

somethin would pop up and he'd freak out and start trying 73 things, then you'd tell him to check something, and he'd try another 52 things, and you'd smack him in the back of the head, to catch his attention for a minute and remind him he still didnt check the thing you asked him to 2 days prior.

wish i could weigh in on this WT, but it sounds like weedhound has the right idea ... i'm AMAZED that you have gone this long without a pH tester or an EC meter ... i know my well water at my parents house well water (long ago) was excellent, but now i run off city water and RO and/or pH adjustment are a must.

This is the one I use.

All pH meters have a rep for crapping out eventually.
Finicky little F.U.C.K.S.!
But, like most things, "user error" accounts for some.

I had a more expensive one a couple of years ago.
I didn't know anything about it. I didn't set it up correctly.
I couldn't get consistant readings.
I returned it after only a couple of days. Cussing the meter the whole time.
In hindsight, I know I didn't soak that meter / set it up correctly.


I'm babying this one.
I hope it lasts for a long time. (relatively speaking)
But I can afford to replace this cheap one, as soon as neccessary.

So far, it's deadly accurate!

My tap water maxed out my drops @ 8.5 pH (Tap water EC = 8.2)
My meter tells me my tap @ 9.1 pH
(+/- 0.2 @ 68F)
(BTW, temps away from 68F will skew accuracy.)

My RO water comes out 0.0 EC, & pH @ 8.5

1/4 strength PBP & LK brings it to .36 EC & 6.2 pH
(Just a very light fert this time...)

I watered most of mine last night. Most were dry, because I've been waiting to get my irrig problems sorted.

They breathed an instant sigh of reLEAF!

Don't put any faith in that reading, brah.
With 0.0 EC, PH readings are meaningless.
That's why ya always add nutes, mix well, aerate, then read PH.

And for all of us with great memories...it pays to calibrate ones tester a little more often...With all this chatter about the ph and problems, thought I'd check my tester...man was it off....I was amazed...that wont happen again soon...

I calibrate my pH meter every time I use it. And I ALWAYS store it with the frit in pH 7 buffer. Keeps it fresh.

The solution in the bottles can go bad before it expires...

just like milk... but, different...

I was told to store mine in a cup of plain tap water.
And, to calibrate weekly.

And, if no problems, can go 2wks between calibrations.

But, I dunno???

I use the drops to confirm my readings.

this is exactly right. RO water by itself has basically nothing in it and so will "take on the ph" of whatever you add it to. There are no buffers in it so the ph pf straight RO is, indeed, meaningless. Things like oxygenation and temp WILL affect ph so don't be so quick to blame your meter.....it still may be accurate (I like the Extech ph meters the best.) There is also no calcium, iron etc in RO water so you have to add it.

OK...so yes, there are a few gnats flying around, but I think they are just harmless outside gnats...didnt see ANY bug damage that I could tell, seems more to be a water issue to me. Ph came out to be around 7.1 and ppm was 400 of the well water. So we are gonna add 1tsp per 2 gal of ph up to bring our nuted water to about 6.8ph when feeding...Also gonna quit using the salt softener, and just drink bottled water.
