GROW LOG STARTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE 2, POST #28 !!!

Hey everyone.

I'm on a constant mission to maximize my space. If you look at my albums you can see what i currently deal with in flower.

I've been messing with Scrog and LST for a little bit now trying to use every square inch of light. It's better than i was doing, but not great. So here i am deciding to move on to SOG.

I really like the idea of SOG, but have steered away from it in the past due to high plant count. But i think the time has come. So here are my floor plans. Please feel free to comment or critique. This is my first experience with SOG so i am anxious to see where i may be going wrong.

Here's what i'm doing:
My flower area is 61" x 33" x 72" (WxDxH)
2 400w HPS aircooled
4 separate tubs that will be used in a DWC setting.
clones in rapid rooters, then into hydroton and 3" netpots

Check out the pics i've attached. The first layout is nice because it's an even distribution of plants all the way around. It also works well with my 4 week perpetual harvest, i'd be harvesting 20 plants every 4 weeks with this layout.

Layout 2 is using the same equipment, but in a different configuration so i could run up to 4 different strains or adjust my schedule to harvest 8, 12, or 16 plants every 2 weeks.

Initial thoughts on layout?
Any suggestions on how to discontinue the dependence on rooters and rocks? i've tried the foam collars and aero cloners but have always failed.

thanks very much!

Yo man. I love my iOlite. I use it everyday and it works like a champ.

It took me a while to get used to the hot dry air, but now it's all smooth sailing. I'd definitely be interested in takin it off your hands if your done with it. PM me and we'll work out some details.

Have you tried any other vapes? how long did you use the iOlite for? It took me a few days to get real comfortable with it.

Let me know!

Since this thread has strayed from the original topic quite a bit...I figure this is now just a place for me to journal my progress and experiments along the way and those who care to tag along may find something useful.

So here is the next chapter in my journey:

Testing the Lowe's/HD AeroTub.

Spent a good 10 hours so far this weekend cleaning out my room, patching some holes, rerouting vents and aircooled lights, and putting the lowes tub into flower.

I have been insanely busy lately, as a result my veg has suffered...nothing died...but they've been running on straight tap water top offs for a good 3 weeks now. I also have my first case of spider mites (clones from a friend). I got a bottle of BANG! and sprayed all the plants and surrounding areas very well. I will continue spraying every 3 days until I am certain they are gone.

Anyways. on to the excitement.

To find out the beginnings of this tub and these 4 plants, read from post #95 on.

So I've got 2 White Rhino and 2 Northern Skunk in this tub. They've vegged for 6 weeks and I didn't do much training at all. I topped them at week 2 and scrogged them for a week or so after. Then i just let them go wild while my other life took precedent.

Not much to say right now. Here they are on day 1 of flower.

Peace!
Fifth.

Rearranged my 2 400w HPS to get some better coverage. Reran the venting too. I would like to add a 3rd 400w very soon. The idea is that i can run 2-3 of these Tubs, or a load of 4-8 DWC Buckets, or a combination of Tubs and Buckets. if I've learned anything so far, it's to be flexible and deal with what you've got.

nice man! cant wait to see how it all comes out....i have a question.....i am getting a miilion different answers for....if i have the 3x3 tray that we spoke about, with say, like ummmm....i cant figure out how many sprayers i need, but lets say 12 for one 3x3 tub, okay....what would be the ideal GPH pump for this?....I have read yours and Pirates threads fully, but ant figure it our....he has 2-3x3 systems, and recommends a 650 GOPH i think, but then he said, higher would be better in his "checklist" please give me some feedback flat...thanks man!

Yeah, you should be fine with a 650gph. I have an 800gph that runs 32 sprayers and a 450 that has run 6-12 sprayers no prob. Go with the 650.

Just for the sake of my journal:

Last night (9/21) i took a mess of clones and cleaned up my moms.

roughly 25 clones from 4 different Chronic plants. 2 females, 1 male, and 1 unsure. I'm gonna flower the males and collect the pollen (I need more chronic seeds! Plus I would love to cross my White Rhino mom with a Chronic dad).

a couple bubblicious clones from a haggard and dying mother (i'm trying to revive it...)

And 5 of my classic White Rhino.

I usually use Rapid Rooters or my Aero Cloner...but this time i'm using those new Sure To Grow plugs. They seem pretty sweet and are very cheap (98 plugs for $13).

It's good to be back on track.
Here's to the future of my garden.

Hey man - I'm extremely interested in how that above choice works out for you. Please don't let any comments slide regarding Sure to Grow vs. Rapid Rooter plugs in a low pressure Aero/NFT system. I was already subscribed - but now I'm watching this evaluation like a hawk :)

Biggest question is how are they standing up to being sprayed? How's the res and the filter line? Any floaties in it from the inserts? Probably too soon to note any sprayer clogs (and I hope you don't have any to report at all, ever) but if you do - please let us know!

haha. Cool man. Glad i sparked your interest.

Right now the STG cubes are just sitting in a standard clone dome with some water in the bottom. They aren't in the Aero system yet. But rest assured they will be in about 3 weeks. However, there were a few light fibers left in the bowl of water i soaked the cubes in.

So far they look great. I started cloning in rockwool with maybe 50% success. Moved on to rapid rooters and had 100% success. From there i went to my aerocloner which at first had 100% success but as the summer got hotter it rapidly fell to 0% success. So i went back to rapid rooters for my last cloning adventure and they all died. 0% for the rapid rooters...what the fuck?!? so last time i was at the hydro shop i saw the STG plugs and so far they are looking great. I even chopped a huge top off one of the chronics and stuck it in a STG plug and it's going strong.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi flat5th, just read this all the way through, i jumped over from pirates thread, good stuff!

i am still in the planning stages for my g/room at the mo, been a reading machine these past few years, finally found the ideal house to go for it now! its hard to find a decent basement in the uk! so im aero all the way soon.

anyway, ive been driving myself mad working out dimensions and plant spaces for sog etc and i just wanted to say that between pirates and this thread i have had a lot/most of the niggly questions ive had in my brain answered so THANK YOU!

il sit in the corner and keep an eye on ya new tub grows, seems a shame to have gone to all that trouble building the originals but hey thats the way it goes, they'd fit perfect in my basement aswell hehe.

anyway, ive probably forgotten the other q's i wanted to ask ..oh yes.........deleted...... ive just found my answer whoops newb alert. sorry!

thanks for the tips and good luck with all future grows
cheers dude.

Quick update:

I've finally broke the 1kw mark!

For a while i've been talking about adding my 250 MH to my flower room to add a little more light and mix the spectrum a little. Well i finally did it. I had an extra aircooled reflector so i wired it up and now i've got 1,050 watts! I'll keep this going until i have money for a 3rd 400w.

Now i just gotta run another hose to cool the light.

Until i get my 1on/4off pump timer, i'm using a standard 15on/15off. I thought it might be too much time off, but the roots are EXPLODING in the res. I'm quite happy! now they just gotta overcome all their deficiencies from vegging in plain water.

Peace!

what happened to the trays fifth?

They'll be back very soon. I fucked up my veg and couldn't keep up with the demand for clones. Moving forward I will probably have 2 or 3 different setups going at a time. In the near future i will have this aero tub, at least one of my aero tables, and probably a couple 5 gallon DWC buckets going all at the same time. I'm realizing now that I've tried so many methods and systems that i can be flexible depending on what's up with my veg.

My wife was super pissed when I took the aero tables out. "you spent so much time and money building those and now you aren't gonna use them?"

yeah...sorry love...

Peace!

ya its hard to keep those clones coming for these aero tables..remember my tables are 98 site, i know exactly what you mean..keep up that hard work..ill be lurking

Here we are at Week 1.

A fair amount of new growth. pH has been steady around 5.5 all week. The new growth is looking a little bit light, but I'm gonna give it a couple more days before i add more nutes to see where it's all going.

picture.php

Here's a shot of the roots. They've exploded in one week. Usually i have my pump on 24/7. This time i'm using a smaller pump, bigger res, and 15on/15off timer. The res is no doubt MUCH cooler, and the timer gives the roots a chance to breath a little more. These are the healthiest roots in bloom i've ever had.

picture.php

I also started some new beans. I had bought a 5 pack of Subcool's JillyBean a few months back. I wanted to wait until i had my room cleaned and revamped before i started them. it was an exercise in patience and discipline...but I finally cracked 3 of them and they are sprouting in Sure To Grow Cubes. I've wanted this strain ever since i saw it in the Dec 2007 High times (i think that was the issue...it was right before i started growing).

I think i mentioned earlier that I had come down with my first case of spider mites. I caught it quite early in the attack...I've been using BANG! in a spray bottle every other day for over a week now and i haven't seen a mite or web since. I'm gonna continue using it until the bottle is gone just to be sure. Just thought i'd mention it and give a plug for BANG!, a cheap and seemingly effective defense against mites.

alright. that's all for now, thanks for coming by!

peace!

I personally think that using the timer on/off intervals has an advantage, also, you roots look great, i think that the finer the mist the more fine hairs develop the courser the water the longer and bulkier the roots. I use 1on/5off for my aero cloner and the roots wail.
