nice to meet you! well, i just dropped in on this to see what it was about and ended up reading and then re-reading every word. i don't do that often.

i've been growing 10yrs now and have tried everything but aero. then went to passive and larger and larger and larger plants. i've tried almost all media at one time or another. only a little experience with 50/50 coco/perl. liked it but decided i could do better in 100% perlite.

right now i'm using perlite in 10 gal irb pots with a fitting installed so i can check ph and tds after watering. approx 15% run off. i'm the middle of a changeover from 5 gal buckets so haven't whacked a 10 gal plant yet. my best in 5 gal was 11.47 zips at 28 days dry, but i usually pull between 9-10. sweet tooth #4. radical early prune "lucas" style. 4 1k cooltube vertical hortilux, 3flower, 1veg on 16 plants in weekly stages. no co2.

i give them 770 ppm at the .5 conversion, ph 5.0 2 days then ph'd ro water. top watered with pump and diffuser wand.

questions:

in 100% coco, how do you prevent salt buildup? especially with no run off? even with 15% i get a slow buildup if i don't flush every 3 days. are h&g ferts totally organic?

what strength and ph is your input solution? what is your complete watering schedule?

i know it's almost impossible for you to measure root zone ppm and ph after watering, but have you ever done it, and if so, what did you get?

do you think you have any standing solution in the bottom after watering?

i also want say that you are a helluva gardener.

thank you,
sincerely, delta9nxs

ok, let me answer some of your questions.

i prevent salt buildup by using a product called drip clean from h@g. it bonds to the ions of the salt prevent any kind of buildup. one of the best products ever, dont know why people even worry about buildup anymore with this product. another comany just came out with a similar product, im sure every company will have one soon. its to damn good!
nope, h@g are not organic. i followed the feeding schedule exactly as it says, except i added top max at the end to bring out the shine. dont need to read the runoff,
i have none to read and the plants tell me if anything is wrong with them. i dont think there is any standing solution. i try to water, not to runoff but the a moist level through the whole pot. i try to water to get the nutrient to about 3/4 the way down the pot and let the medium wick it to wherever its dry, make sense?
appreciate the kind words. my next run will be with my new double vertical room! with asian og, sweet pink grapefruit with some urkulan and brainwreck.

deepforest

this thread is ballin. im about to put up a 4kw room in the same style as yours. probably 6 plants per bulb tho.

what do you do about the side of the plants that don't get light? do you rotate? or tie branches?

i was thinking of putting in a 400w on an angle with a batwing shade in each corner to light up the sides that would never get light otherwise

deepforest - they all get pretty decent light on all sides except the ones near the walls, not much popcorn except for the bottoms. i just let the bottoms go a week or two longer then he tops.

Sam the Caveman - its not to bad, around that.

Sleepy - going to start new threads. i have another room with merlin magic, purple bubblegum, and mack the knife finishing up soon. then alien dog, alien formaggio and grass knuckles! :yoinks::yoinks::yoinks:

im amazed you get such growth out of such crappy setup. no offence but bare bulbs, sideways is about as ineffeciant as you can get.
do you care? are you paying for power?

on the positive...
looks like a lovely crop, bigass bushes. only minor cal def. quite amazing for such big beasts.

Digitalhippie - no offense taken, it is an inefficient way to grow, but i had big plants to begin with. 1 3/4 lb's per light, is not to bad, on old bulbs and an inefficient way to grow though. this is not the normal way i grow, i do the vertical thing....

haha respectfully disagree. crappy set up? whats he missing a bunch or 4x8 trays and pumps? then would it be less crappy? 16lb off 10lights with 30 plants? pretty effecient if you ask me.

from someone in the gpw club who rocks barb bulbs, im puzzled by your post

thank you! i had no idea the anti-buildup stuff existed. a top down capillary feed. i grow side lit also with each bulb hitting at least four plants with all plants in the sweet spot. it's very efficient for large plants as long as you rotate plants. i'm growing sweet tooth #4 which is supposed to be half sweet pink grapefruit. a great plant. i'll be watching your next grow. again, great job! later

if u don't mind me asking krunch, not trying to hijack anything here..

why are bare bulbs so inefficient in a flat garden according to digital? it doesnt seem like it lol 16 lbs god damn just curious cuz im thinking of doing 5k vertical bare bulb with 15 or so plants in coco 5 gallon pots vegged for 6-7 weeks under a 1k mh. versus 5k in hoods, same 6-7 week veg times.. which would be better performance?
