how much does it cost you guys to make a gallon of soil?

About .50 a gallon.

That lc's mix w/ blood, bone, kelp, greensand, ewc, pdl, peat and perlite.

Beats the sh!t out out of a bag of FF for 20 bucks, about 5 gallons.

I can make 40+ gallons for 20 bucks easy.

At the hydro store their charging almost $40 for a 3.8 cu ft compressed bail of Sunshine mix #4.

You can get the 2.2 cubic ft compressed bails of peat for $5.50 a piece, a 4 cubic ft bag of perlite for $15.00, a 40# bag of EWC for $18.00, and a 50# bag of lime for $5.00.

For $49.00 it is enough material to make about 90 gallons of base mix.

Then a couple boxes of bone and blood meal, $5 a piece, kelp meal $12, greensand $8 .

So for around $80 youve got 80+ gallons of amended soil with more than enough blood, kepl, PDL, and greensand to make another 80 gallons. You would need some more bone meal.

Factor in recycling the mix from run to run, and it becomes even more cost effective.

It's fall now, time to hit your local home depot type stored. They will be marking things down, and you can find ripped bags for half off many times.

Great thread you got here Burnone, I just ordered myself everything I need for an indoor grow with one of your soil mixes, gonna be using guano / ewc tea + maxicrop kelp and liquid karma to feed.

looks fool-proof to me, just hope they'll come out beautiful with a 400watter, and I won't be able to supplement co2 more than breathing on them for awhile because I can't afford a co2 tank and release valve lol.

I'll throw up a picture here in 4 or so months to show how the mix did.

Oh, and would it benefit the soil to sit out and be mixed for a few weeks in the sun? or will it be just as effective the minute it is mixed?

Hey BurnOne

When using recipe 5, the Neptune's harvest, do I need to bubble it or just add the tbs and shake in a jug?

Also do I use that as recommended (1 tbs every 2-3 weeks) or more/less often?

Thanks :D

Looks fine except for the hydrogen peroxide. Don't use that.

OK, bleach work? When keeping the LC mix with dry ferts moist, do I use the Liquid Karma when adding water, or is the first time enough and use plain water after? I have it now where I can squeeze it and it stays together until I touch it, then it breaks apart pretty easily.

I like to dilute to 1\4 strength and work my way up.

Id be interested if someone knowledgeable in topdressing would discuss various recipes that they have used and application rates and timing. I know you can buy Fox Farms Peace of Mind but if there is a good top dressing veg and flower formulas out there that would work just as well but cheaper that would be nice to hear.

lc's mix #1..whem you say 2 tbsp lime for every gallon soilless mix.does that mean the sum total of peat, perlite and compost manure?...5 gal peat,3 gal perlite,2 gal compost and manure =1o gals mix and you'd ADD 20 tbsp lime?...also,wouldnt it be better to leave perlite out until you were ready to use mix..why would the perlite need to cook?..in other words just take out whatever amount of mix you neede ,then add appropriate amount of perlite.
