What's new

should peat be sifted?

I was under the impression that with the high pressure on bat guano from the pot industry, aside from pressure from use by local farmers, that it was harvested fresh of late. It would sure be nice, for the bats sakes if everyone switched to compost/vermicompost.

From my experience I feel I get higher quality from the materials that take time in the soil to become available with the help of the microbiology.

I do use the Sea bird in a micronized mix for top dressing.. I also believe I am getting some sand in there so I hope that the small amount of sand is a positive in the cycle.

Where does the Sea Bird come from? I assume off cliff faces some place?

It take's a human to think they've done any good for "mother nature" ..

Humans can help mother nature. We just have to understand it's systems and work with them, instead of trying to just overwhelm them. There are lots of things people can do to improve the environment for all it's inhabitants. If you stop erosion and thus fertilizer run-off(both natural and chemical), then you at worst are only hurting the algae that might form in those streams. Of course that same algae would kill fish. No matter what you do in life, there's always a cost to something.

He's got a point though. History tells us we are prone to creating unintended consequences.

Look at some of the geo engineering being proposed to cool the planet.

habeeb quoted a statement of mine and used it to illustrate the arrogance of mankind. i dont accept what he says at all - that mankind cannot help mother nature.

moreover, i stand by my own statement - that guano extraction can be eco friendly and sustainable.

if habeeb wants to debate the issue rather than make a sanctimonious soundbyte at my expense, we can do so over at the guano thread.

Well you've got a point too verdant. Just thought I'd chime in and point that out as well. It's a question that hasn't been answered. My own feeling is that we evolved to look after ourselves, and we only help mother nature to the extent that we see some gain for ourselves. Maybe we are evolving.

It should not be called earth day. It should be called cradle day.

It's actually my birthday; Apr 22 <GRIN>

Happy Birthday? I missed the connect but not the happy birthday.

Oh the whole Universe is the magic IMO.. But for some reason messing up the planet is part of the picture.

I think it's part of nature to have all species expire. Man is just doing it differently then has been done on this planet before..

I believe organic gardening mean to maximize what is already there.
In our case it is supporting the life that supports our plants.

Did I miss something?

He was being extra clever: I called it cradle day and he said it was his birthday. So for him it was cradle day already.
