So, I have these seeds (might be a stupid ?, sorry)

Devil's Advocate
So, I have a bag of seeds. Some are bagseed I have collected over time, but I *think* that a couple Bubblegum beans got tossed in there during a move or something, and I was wondering if I popped them all, what would be the chances of determining which were the Bgums? I would love to try them out, but I don't know how much of a pita this would be. I am pretty ignorant as far as strain identification goes (and I bet it's really hard to do anyway)

What would the process be like? I assume something like this:

1) Pop all seeds
2) Veg them out to mother size
3) Take cuttings of each, noting which mother they came from (eg #1, #2, etc)
4) Flower the mothers (or daddies) while the cuttings are rooting, and sex them.
5) Toss the males, and the clones that came from them
6) Continue flowering the females, and begin to determine which ones seem most like bubblegum

So step 6 is where things get hard, unless the bagseed plants are very apparent. Also, I just don't think I have the room to have this flowering experiment going!
OK, I think I answered my own question, but would any "bubblegum experts" out there be willing/able to help if I was able to snap some photos later of these flowering girls? I will probably set up a little CFL flowering operation in a few months and try this out. Until then, the beans will be popped and vegged.

Peace, and thanks for understanding my ignorace! lol

or just flower, cut, reveg.
This is probably going to be a much slower approach than taking clones early. Regeneration takes FOREVER. I have clones that I took 5-6 weeks ago from a plant that was a couple of weeks into bloom that are just now restarting vegetative growth. Some of them still haven't picked up much.

I am using an approach similar to the one you are describing. Not so much pheno/strain hunting as looking for a good mom candidate. I'm not completely sold on the idea of keeping moms yet - I've been just taking clones and the flowering the "mom" and vegging the clones while the mom flowers. This gives me less downtime (although sometimes I have to scramble to slow down veg growth).

The first indoor I did was SS Bubblegum from clones. You could smell the BG smell
from tiny little 4" clones with no flowers or pistils.

Rookie: Yea, I've had to reveg before and it def took longer. I was lucky, though, bc I think it only took something like 3 weeks. I'll be doing it the way I described above. I planted all the seeds a few hrs ago (that reminds me must mark the calendar)

What do ya mean not sold on keeping moms? It's the holy grail IMHO and for my system! (Also, I just love the thrill from seeing the clones pop those first roots. Never gets old)

KCar: OK well if you say that, then damn I'm a lot less worried about being able to tell one from the other. The seeds were leftovers from a friends' grow, so if I can remember back a while ago, I'll recognize the smell.

Peace

I'm not sold on it because I don't quite have the space for them :) I've been keeping genetics going by taking cuts right before flower and then taking cuts from the cuts when they are ready. I definitely love the thrill of seeing the roots pop too lol, glad to see it will continue.

Definitely look for all traits when selecting the best mom, I usually go by taste and yield first, then look also for traits like ease of cloning, how fast or slow they flower, presence of hermi traits (even if just a nuisance production of the micro seeds you sometimes find inside buds etc.. Don't limit yourself to looking for only one option, you may find an even better plant than what you were looking for. Best of luck..

ps- Don't reveg, that's lame and not all plants will survive a reveg, I've had good results, and I've had many bad results and lost genetics and moms by hoping they would re-veg and many didn't..they get weak and many die..
