well seeing as I'm ghetto style (no desk computer sits on the ground) I will usually roll on my coffee table infront of my 2 TV's stacked on top of eachother (the bottom on doesn't work any more)
Back in the old days, I used a cafeteria tray that I got from my college dorm. I still have it and it has a burn mark in the corner where we got the bright idea one night that if there was a hole in the corner the seeds would roll right out. Never followed through, so I just have a tray with a black mark in one corner.
Now I use the lid from my daily-use mason jar. I take the lid off and invert the top part so the shiny side is up, and it works like a little dish with sides.
For you older fuck heads, a folding record album cover is the old standard. I remember a friend getting his first Club rolling papers tray in 1980. I sometimes find pot in folded albums from past wraps. Good way too waste reefer.
j/k about fuck heads. that's my fav nick for my buds
I have a wide, shallow wooden bowl that I keep on the coffee table. It holds what ever cola I'm burning down that day, my spoon pipe, lighters, papers, scissors, and a shotglass for chopping bud.
album covers, they were great essential tools for me are either my desktop, or a thick magazine on my lap, and a credit card or some such ,,, grind it in the spacecase (excellent grinder, had a few and i love it). i like an edge i can push the pot over with the card so it drops into the paper.
i have two trays.. One is about 15 yrs old small microwavable tray rounded corners.. And a new superman tray shaped like a tshirt.. Niiice.. that will be gettin used with our new casa.. peace.
I use a blue McDonald's tray that has been with me for years. Before that I had a brown McDonald's tray. It's kind of a tradition in these parts.
I'm not really a thief, the trays were procured when I was young and irresponsible. Now I'm a fine upstanding citizen, I don't know what I would do if forced to replace the old warrior.

trichomes are too valuable to lose on the desk or floor...........it takes 8 ~ 12 ounces of bud to make one ounce of clean hash...depending on what you pay for it or what it could be sold for and how much is purchased each time, it costs 1 ~ 3 times more than the current crazy price of gold (near $1000) ...so resin is way too precious to lose even a fraction of it each time bud is broken up and prepped.
for those who use their fingers to break up bud, I reckon they lose around a golf ball sized hunk of hash each year, the same applies to those who don't handle their bud carefully..those that keep bud in plastic bags probably lose more each if it were totaled up!....
call me a tight wad, but I don't throw away "gold dust" I grow if I can help it.
use a grinder and a tray or a stash box
check out Gypsy Nirvana'a dual screen frame stash box with a deep side compartment for sale right now
I just got the same box Highlighter has a few days ago, I think. I've been so wasted by the keif, this whole week is a blur. I use to break up on magazines, cd cases or right on the table. I can't believe how much goodness has been wasted all these years. I suggest everyone get one of these boxes. It's like going from shrimp cocktail to caviar.
I agree with Chamba about the weed in a plastic bag loosing all it's goodness. But, I notice that the jars I cure in has trich heads all stuck to it. It doesn't matter what I put it in, that ish rubs off. Just have to smoke faster so I don't lose it all.
