I'm glad to see more proof that I'm not crazy cuz my CFL grown bud has been better than 80% of what I've gotten from clubs and buddies that use HPS! Congrats on the harvest those buds look tasty!

Haha, maybe I should go reread my own thread then, jakez. I'm off on a sober-vacation in the woods and wouldn't mind a contact high right about now.

The lumen breakdown is all but identical:

Tent: The 250 Hortilux puts out ~30,000 initial lumens. In 4 ft2 space, that works out to ~7500/ft2.

Cab: 12 F8T5 bulbs along with the two 42w CFLs - 180w in total - put out ~13,000 initial lumens in a 1.78 ft2 space - which works out to ~7250/ft2.

The cab is indeed kicking out frostier buds with slightly less light, although I consider that small difference academic. No doubt burn-in and wear on the bulbs has migrated those numbers as well, but whether closer or farther apart I cannot say. The spectra are so different it's hard to even make a visual comparison, so I won't.

thundurkel: Dude! Good to see you back. You know we always assume the worst around here, between LEO, thieves, and the serious nature of many med-users' conditions... keep rockin them CFLs! I heartily recommend some UVB. :yoinks:

happydaze: Thanks mans! I suppose I should get some in the tent, now that I know I can cool what's already in there adequately. I want to do a single 24" T5 fixture with a 5% reptile bulb in it, but you know that already. :smoke:

Thanks for the good vibes, guys!

Oh, one more fact of note. The HPS -F- was cut in stages on day 56 and day 57 (since I was headed out of town... it should have gone even a couple more) whereas the CFL clone was down and perfectly-done on day 54. When you look at the side-by-sides, know that the HPS bud in the photo is from the second day and is therefore 3 days more mature!

Is it possible that the spectra used in the cab sped up the flowering process somewhat? It wouldn't seem that lumen-density is a factor; if it were, one would expect the HPS plant to finish first.

-s

(Numbers: CFL buds are ~0-90-10 clear/cloudy/amber, HPS about 10-90-0. Only a couple of days off one another, but enough to observe. I like mine about 10-80-10 so both samples are in my 'sweet spot' and produce indistinguishable highs.)

What can I say, I'm a nerd at heart. Anything for science! :smoke:

Ok, folks. I have a pack of random musings and questions to address. Rather than construct a linear, logical post I am just going to let 'er rip.

Let me begin this by saying that I am smoke-testing the first dried nug of my Flo 2 pheno. I'm halfway through a bowl and I'm having trouble remembering the first part of sentences by the time I finish typing them. Is that a good sign?

Speaking of smoke tests, I had my 'litmus test' over and she smoked some F. Sure enough, it was ineffective as a painkiller but overwhelmingly fun. And while its high is indeed all in the head, my judgement of potency is not. It put some for-real smokers down last night. And then, as a finale, I broke out the CFL nug. It wins.

Unfortunately, you can't win 'em all. The nice, fat, chunky DMX mystery plant started throwing pollen from a flush of male flowers. No surprise... and at 57 days not a total loss. I hope the damage is minimal, only one flower actually burst. I guess that's what I get for being on vacation. I don't think it's going to be too big a deal. S/he is cut, trimmed, and hanging right now. The trichs are mostly cloudy, the buds are FATFATFAT. I'd have taken her 2 more weeks in a perfect world, but such is not the case.

Something has been gnawing at me for a few weeks now... it has to do with my 'Chemdog.' I'll spare you a look back through the thread for a description; she's a bagseed queen which was a gift from a friend and a gift to him from a friend. He said it was 'Chemdog' but this is ... thirdhand bagseed so who knows what it really is. I certainly do not, but I am convinced of one thing:

It's not Chemdog. First pic and the rest are taken 8 days apart.

The story was also changed to 'it's C99' - but I'm running it next to C99. It's not C99. Anyone see anything at all familiar, though? It smells like tangerines, uncannily in fact - It's one of my few plants which has consistent and unanimously-recognized smell. Smoked some on day 35 (popcorn trim) and the potency was too underdeveloped to even judge. I have high hopes.

Have I mentioned that this Flo is fucking superb? This was the variegated and crinkly pheno. The other one was hemp, and got cooked into (weak) budder. This one purples a bit, trichs completely cloudy @ day 60. I had 2 of this pheno going. I'm letting the other one stew a little bit longer for the sake of color... straight purple buds @ 30% amber sound like a nice variant to try out. Today is day 62, I bet she goes about 70. The one that is still going is also the one which started under the UVB light, and it looks frostier than this one. Consistent.

The Wonder Haze girl is flowering as of last night.

The Zoidfuel x Cherryfuel girl has had clones cut and is on the home stretch to flip. One last move into a #2 smartpot as soon as a spot opens up.

And this amazing Flo has given me 2 good seeds so far. Father is the C99 male I gave to a friend for a stock run. Those might be the only 2 I get, it was a small pollenation. Here's to hoping that one is a lady!

Flounderella?

I'll get pics in an hourish and update this post.

Yo man. Just dropping in. It sucks about the mystery plant. Good thing you snagged it when you did. That could have been bad. Maybe she was feeling lonely when you left and was just trying to reach out. Hopefully it is still a good smoke. Looks like it should but then again looks can be deceiving.
Well the chemdog turned out to be someone else huh? That kinda sucks. I was looking forward to seeing what all the buzz was about. She still looks dank as hell. And with what you have described it should be a winner if she stays on track. I like tangerines. Well gotta go. I will hit you up later. Peace and stay green.

I wouldn't worry much about the 'dog... I'm sure I can track her down if I need to and this smell... did I mention tangerines? It's unbelievable. Looks like a hell of a yielder too, assuming the buds are dense. I can't really see through the coat of fur to make that determination, though.

So far my 2 best plants are from bagseeds... so let's not judge 'er until she's ashes. :D

Farewell, sweet princess... et al

Farewell, sweet princess... et al

Thanks AS, nice to see my shameless plug in your thread brought another friendly face in here. :D

I'll make a point to ask the person who gave us the RK where it originated. I'd guess it was selected from seed as well but I don't know for sure. I do know that there was a commercial 'Romulan x BC Kush' (Federation or Next Gen, I think?) cross a few years back - but I dunno whether that's what either of us has.

I do know that mine is lovely, delicious and potent with an excellent quality of high. I hope yours is as good!

Today marked the end of the line for my first C99! She came down at about 0/90/10 on the morning of her 53rd day. Right on schedule, I would say. I'm not a big fan of amber trichs, especially in my sativas - so this is about as ripe as I want her.

Yield is pretty poor, and this pheno anyway is very low-odor. I don't think she's a pineapple, but definitely toward the sweet-tropical end of the spectrum. There's a little red/berry hint in there too - very fruit punchy. I'm hoping the cure clears that up a bit. Until then, though, she hangs and dries.

Holy crap, pictures.

Holy crap, pictures.

Well, I finally replaced my dead SD card and got the camera fired up again. Tons of pics this time, things are moving along nicely. First up is the NL. The longer she goes, the less inclined I am to think she's NL - considering we're on day 82 now with hardly an amber trichome in sight. Whatever the $#&# it is, it's pretty, and pretty good:

Keeping with the theme of 'bagseed plants that aren't what I was told they were' I present the "Chemdog." She's on day 54, probably going to last about 10 more, give or take. She smells more like tangerines than tangerines do, and she's really much sexier than the photos suggest:

And some Romulan Kush lower-nugs @ day 54. I think I'm going to take this one a little longer than I usually do, just for kicks.

Now, the stuff that's just getting started. These have been flipped for 9 and 7 days respectively:

Wonder Haze

C99 (Pheno 2)

The Wonder Haze is stretchy as hell, and starting to branch around the bottom. I have plenty of height for her, so I'm enjoying the rise. Cindy is... Cindy. Stretchier than my other pheno, and a little less leafy so far. :joint:

They are... I'm running into a problem with inadequate veg space, though. Right now I don't have the space to adequately veg plants into their larger containers for the tent... leading to some plants that are smaller than they really ought to be and yields to match. Time to reinvest, I think. Always something. Still, though, it's doing the job.

Here's what I had for breakfast today:

They do say start your day off with a well rounded meal eh SB. That will just make sure that your eat the whole damn thing. Expansion huh? Well honestly I knew the time would come. You are getting too good and the results are showing. The NL is nice looking. I dont remember her being that fat from the first runs. I have high hopes for the Williams Wonder. Saw some pics from others and damn, she will be one hell of a show. And the name Zoidfuel just strikes my intrigue. Well hopefully i will make it over there sometime this week I will hit you up. Stay Green.

P.S. I had a tangerine over the weekend. It made me giggle.

Yeah dude, they're nowhere near as fat under the CFLs... even that 250 turns the NL into donkey dicks. The next one up in ~5 weeks is pretty much solid from soil to top.

If you're interested in some serious eyecandy, go check the "Aussie Bred Candy" thread. Dude named Moonunit has all the info about the Zoid lines and a little about this particular cross. It gets me excited every time I check it, makes me wish more than 1 of my 5 seeds would have germed. (Good thing I still have 10 more. ;) )

And thanks, KS... smellin' good, too. :smoke:
