Veterans from the Vietnam conflict, I have a question

In another thread a statement was made regarding the original location of an old world strain called Monkey Paw. Some have said that this was brought back from Nam by returning vets. It was said the name comes from the radio call sign used to identify a newly found field of this wonderful plant.

I am curious if there are any vets who remember such stories ?

Others have said the strain known as Vietnam Black is actually the same strain.
Can anyone confirm this ? I believe myself and others might be chasing a long lost dream while, the actual strain is available (when available).

Was there a particular strain of marijuana found in Vietnam that was so distinctive that you could never forget it? Was it called MONKEY PAW ?

The only Vietnam Black I heard of during my tours was in reference to opium. I never heard of Monkey Paw but then again, there were different names for different types of weed (and hard drugs) depending on the area of Nam that you were in. I have 2 different books about the slang and lingo that we used over there and I didnt find a reference to the 2 names that you mention. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. Peace.

Thanks Puffin13, excellent resource you have to confirm or deny the lingo/slang.

This strain seems to be such a mystery, it's driving me crazy !

I only had one nugget of this strain in my life. It was bigger than a silver dollar, very dark to black in color, shaped like a monkey paw.
I shared a joint with a chick I met in a bar. We went outside to smoke it and, after about two tokes, she started claiming I put something in the pot because she never had anything that made her feel that way before. She freaked out and went back inside and wouldn't even talk to me again for fear I was trying to drug her ;>}

I sure wish I had not been so careless with seeds back then.

I never heard any of those terms used in 69-70. I was in country from Saigon to the Cambodian border.

I am not as old as some of you guys but i do have an older friend, hes vietnamese and hes in his 70, we share something in common, fishing that is.

Im not sure about the strains you are talking about * Black Monkey *, but i did see something similar few years ago on a fishing trip with my old friend.

He call his stuff "NamBlack" which he said originally came from Viet Nam, it has a very unique black color, if you put it in the sun you can see a tad of dark yellow.

Anyway, when i smoke it, only after a few puff i was high, high to the point where i was locked in my seat and couldnt get up to drive the boat. I did asked him where he got the stuff, never told me where.

Maybe next time ill trade some of my stuff for his so i could put up a pictures.

Red.

I just found this strain for sale on Seedboo and am wondering if it may be the strain I've been looking for?
It seems to have the same traits except for the lack of description regarding the BLACK coloring.
Could this be the Monkey Paw ?

Foxtail Sativa ~ The lineage of this plant can be traced to Southeast Asia and specifically the Cambodian border with Laos.

Could it be a cross with:

Viet Combo (Spice Brothers) Vietnamese X Vietnamese Black

. Would you share any history of VB?
....~ According to our original source, the truebreeding Vietnamese Black has been in North America since 77. Clones of the original VB female have since been in circulation within Canada, USA, and Southeast Asia for quite some time. Until recently, the availability of seeds has been very rare.
