Good job on the butter! Im sure the T shirt didn't soak up 2+ sticks of butter. You probably had the temp too high when you were simmering the butter. Its common, I had to learn that mistake myself. If you bring it to a boil, the butter willl infuse with the leaf and you will end up with alot less butter than what you started with. Keep your temp at 180 degrees, just about to boil.

Good job on the brownies! How did they taste?

when using a large amount trim it always soaks up all the butter. so I strain in one container, and the squeeze in another - this one is virtually all butter. I think soak and re-squeeze a few times in the first container. the first container takes overnight to get the remnants, but the second one that is mostly butter, it hardens MUCH faster because it is the large quantity of water that holds the heat normally, is removed.

regarding butter losing mass, butter is not all fat, a significant % is water/milk. clarified butter is just the fat. this contributes to loss in volume.

I did try this but, I put that new water in a third cup and it had nothing but yellow water in it this morning.

then there probably wasn't much butter remaining in the tshirt. a couple good squeezes/rinses and there never is.

I decided to try some of the butter I made the other day. I put it on my toast this morning. I wasn't sure how much I should of put on there. It was less than a teaspoon I think. I put apricot jelly on it to mask the taste of the butter. I ate half of it. It does not taste good. I can't stand to eat anymore it tastes real bad. I just ate it and I didn't eat a lot so I don't expect to feel anything. But if I do feel something off that little bit, I'll be a nasty butter eating mofo.
Anyways, I've never eaten, smelled or seen edible pot in any form. So, I don't even know if it tastes right. It doesn't smell bad, or very strong. Just does not taste good.
When I cook with the butter, will that nasty taste "cook out"? I was planning on making wake and bake cookies tonight. Is there a different recipe that will mask the flavor better? Thanks guys, you are all so helpful.

Yea, ganja butter doesn't taste great, thats for sure! There are some things you can do to better that..... If your gonna eat it on toast, instead of using jelly, use pennutbutter. That masks it alot better. When using the butter to bake, add a tsp of almond extract. Thats a great mask too. When baking, I've found that using 1/2 ganja butter and 1/2 regular butter works great for whatever the recipie calls for in butter. Its so potent that you realy dont need the full amount of ganja butter for the recipie. I posted a great recipie for oatmeal cookies here:

Hope this helps!

WAKE-N-NO-BAKE COOKIES
INGREDIENTS
2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Cannabutter
1/2 cup Milk
3 tablespoons Cocoa
3 cups Quick Oat
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS
In a large saucepan, add the sugar, butter, milk, and cocoa. Bring to a rapid boil, and continue to cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add the oats, salt, and vanilla. Using a #20 ice cream scopper, drop onto wax paper and let cool.

How important is the cocoa in this recipe? I have everything but that. Aaargh!! I just went to Wally World today. Dang.

I made the cookies w/o the cocoa. I used 3 teaspoons of vanilla. Wasn't too bad. Still had that underlying green taste. That must be one the sweetest things I've ever eaten. I don't know how you guys eat more than one. I almost went into a diabetic shock. Anyways, I think I felt a buzz. I smoked before I ate it. I did feel something though. It kinda felt like a took a pain pill. My husband ate one too, surprisingly. He's ate most of it until he started tasting that green taste. He said he felt a buzz too. I was expecting more of a high though , maybe the butter wasn't strong enough. I wish I could share with someone who's eaten these before so I know if I did it right. I'm not the best cook.

passing the batch around for tasting.

Auh thanks MrsEvleme! Wish I could taste them too! Cooking with canna is just one of thoes things you gotta try a few times before you find what works for you. My ratios and your ratios differ from everyone elses ratios just because were not all using the same bud, trim, hash, whatever. Personaly, I prefer cooking with hash. It tastes alot better! You can hardly taste anything at all actually.

I have found that one of the tastiest ways to consume with cannabutter is to make brownies, or even better, fudge.

I have made fudge so potent that people ate one piece and refused to ever eat it again, lol

If the butter retains too much "green taste" then cook it at a lower temp, for less time..
I always simmered mine on low for at least 4 hours, but you can simmer on low for 2 hours and still get good butter.

When I made butter I'd fill a quart size pot with trim, and use 8 sticks, but you could fill it half way and just use four..

If you want it a little more potent, then after it is done simmering let it cool a bit, and squeeze the trim to make sure you get all the butter out of it, doing so will give it a little bit more of a greener taste, but if you use it on brownies, or fudge, you will not notice the difference.

Here is a pic of some White Rhino/Biggie Smalls butter I made a long time ago..

Yeah if you don't like the MJ green taste than your bet is to use a recipe with a lot of fudge to cover up the green taste.

I used to put butter straight on toast but it would almost make me puke. Now I use Gheradeli Fudge Brownie Brownie from the market. All the fudge covers up the MJ taste. Trouble is I dont want to get fat so I am looking into green dragon, so I can be a lush instead.

great thread!thanks for this.
only problem is, i think i fucked up.

didnt get me wasted at all i ended up eating half of it.
there was defo something from the bud in it coz it tasted like crap.
anyone else have this problem?
or am i just the biggest shit head in the world!

Use a french coffee press. You can get all of the butter from your buds and no more burning you self squeezing the buds to get all the butter out.

Also what would be a good amount of full melt hash for two sticks of butter. I use 20 grams of popcorn sized buds and shake to make my cookies (about 30 cookies) and would like them just a little stronger (like I used a full oz). But this time I want to use hash this time and have no clue how much to use to get the right ratio.

When I'd make my butter I'd use at least a half a quart's worth of trim, I say half a quart because I never measured it, I just filled a quart saucepan half full.
Then I'd use around 5-6 sticks of real unsalted butter.
That would give me around enough butter to make two batches of cookies, or brownies.
If you used actual bud at the same ratio as the butter I cannot imagine why you did not feel something.
Maybe the bud was not potent enough. :/
Next time try to use a 1/2 oz of bud and 2 sticks of butter.

If you were tasting too much green taste then try to simmer for just an hour and a half, I know most say 4-5 hours, but it is not necessary to simmer it that long.

Very god idea with the french coffee press, there are a couple of times my hands got really red from squeezing the warm ass trim...

I have never used hash to make butter before, but I'd think if your going to use 2 sticks of butter, and make one batch of cookies.
(which I mean one box worth if you buy the box cookie mix)
Then I'd try 4 grams of full melt hash.
You could go a little higher if you'd like, but if so I'd only eat one to two cookies, and wait a good 30 minutes to see how you feel.

Let me try do do some math...

Say you use 4 grams of hash, and make 20 cookies (I'd say 30, but I have never used a box of mix and been able to make 30 cookies, unless you make them tiny) that would mean each cookie would contain around .2 grams of hash.
I'd think that would be plenty if you ate about 2-3 cookies.

If you go that route, and find two or three cookies is not potent enough for you, then up the recipe by a gram at a time, until you have them at the potency you desire.

Try to have some other sweet goodies around in case you get too high from the cookies, sugar is the best thing to consume if you get too high, at least in my experiences eating more sweets helps to bring one down a bit..

I don't use a box mix. But you think that 4 grams would be close to 14 grams bud or 20 grams of popcorn/shake? With my cookies 1 has you chillin and 2 has you spending time with your good friend the fridge ripped. I just want them to hit like the last batch when i used a half of white rhino.

I use 73 micron bubble hash to cook with. I use 1.0g per 1 stick of butter. Makes great cookies! If you want to do it in oil, 1/2 cup oil per 1.0g of hash. Hope this helps.

It would be a bit more than equal to that actually, I thought you wanted to make it not only taste better, but make it more potent when you said "didnt get me wasted at all i ended up eating half of it."

Try 2 grams at first, see how the batch turns out, if it is not potent enough then you could double it, but I'd not go any higher than 4 grams.
If you are not a heavy smoker, or do not have a heavy tolerance than you may want to only go as high as 3 grams per batch of cookies.

hey passionformj,it was migrainessuck that was askin bout the 4g thing.

i think i know how i fucked up,the temp was to high when i was melting the butter.tried it again and it worked a treat, just kept it nice and low.
i cut the cookin time from 3hrs to 2,although i dont know if that made any difference.
someone on here said they chuck the used bud in to the brownie mix, might give that a try next time.although i was wrecked enough!
its a kinda shroomy stone,if you know what i mean.

Ahhh, I figured you were both the same person, since you both were new to the site, and you both had the exact same avatar, and only a one post difference between the two.

Glad you figured out where you went wrong though.

As for chucking the used bud into the brownie batter, I have a suggestion, pop a used bud into your mouth before doing so, if you can stand the taste then go right ahead.
I personally think that would ruin the texture of the brownies, as well as the taste.

I do know what you mean though, I have eaten so many brownies, or so much fudge before, that I felt like I was damn near tripping..

OK, so somewhere in the process I must have screwed up ;>}

I tried making this butter again and, each container that was put in the fridge to cool did not solidify. The first two did become semi-solid but would break apart when I tried lifting it out with a fork. I got most of the main chunks and used a strainer to capture the rest of what was floating. The other two, which were made by running the process a second time with the soggy material only ended up with a thin layer of skim on top of the water.

Here is what I did this time, see if you can point out where I went wrong for me.

I harvested and trimmed my first plant. This left me with about 4-5 fist full of leaves.
Last time I just threw the leafy material in the water/butter mixture and it seemed to taste pretty awful ;>} This time I thought, why not try that water-cure method to remove the chlorophyll from the leaves before making the butter.
I brought a pot of water to a boil, then turned the heat off, waited a few minutes then put the grass in and allowed it to steep for an hour. I strained this and repeated the process once more before putting the wet leaves on a screen and dried it overnight with the use of a fan. The first pot of water was extremely dark, almost beer-bottle brown and dark enough that I couldn't see the bottom (3 inches deep). The second time was a thin green/brown color.
Once the leaves were dried again, I followed the instructions above using two sticks of butter.
I had the mixture on a simmer for about 3 hours and stirred about every fifteen minutes.

Given all of the above explanation, can anyone tell me what I might have done wrong which lead to this butter not solidifying? Do you think it will be any good to use or should I throw it away?
Oh, the return, if it were solid might equal about a half of one stick.

Grandma Gudehi's Cannabutter Buttons

Grandma Gudehi's Cannabutter Buttons

These are some cannabutter buttons I made several months ago. I make mine basically the exact way as in this thread. We keep a bag in the freezer for use throughout the year. Each button is one dose.
I started making cannabutter about three years ago with my trimmings. We learned in the first year that it's very important to test the potency. My daughter still refuses to use concentrates. A few of my friends, thinking more, more, more, ended up getting nauseous and trying to sleep it off. Only to wake up a few hours later still high. Others, like myself and my daughter, had like an anxiety thing going.
Back when the gov't was saying it caused these symptoms I thought it was a bunch of BS propaganda. Now I know they were just megadosing people.
I call my brownies "Grandma Gudenhi's Twice Baked Brownies". You bake them, then get baked from them.
Anyway, here's the buttons. We used an ice tray of this shape to make them. They're about 1/2 tsp. each.
