Move to Calif to grow medical bud *business idea* is it legit?

G

Greyskull

i am just trying to save you from loads of embarassment.

theres a reason why i linked up Lost In Hollywood originally... its because just like some dude who plays air guitar pretty good thinks they can learn play real guitar pretty good, in tune, flash a couple of scales, and BAM! you have all you need to move to LA and get a record contract, and 'make it'.
in your case, you are just trying to exchange the band/guitar for growing marijuana.

and it doesn't work that way. 'these streets are filled with strays'

its nice you have a dream. thats awesome. kudos. its good to dream. but, to quote your favorite inspriational movie BLOW, YOU HAVE THE WRONG DREAM, DUDE.

but maybe its just the wrong dream right now?

and speaking of dialog, this is some hard core grown up serious dialog, called 'tough love'. Its supposed to hurt - make you think harder about things while the sting rings. It can either make you, or break you. Its for your own good. If you can take it you can make it.

but what the fuck do I know? I am just the verified bonafide asshole I always am..... no shame and no hiding.

My warning meant nothing.
You're dancing in quicksand.
Why don't you watch where you're wandering?
Why don't you watch where you're stumbling?
You're wading knee deep and going in.
And you may never come back again.

This bog is thick and easy to get lost in
when you're a stupid,dumb ass, beligerant fucker.

just make sure ya got a job lined up to hold ya over!

THIS.

Geek, your plan is doomed to failure because you forget about OVERHEAD. It's fucking high, and jobs out here are pretty scarce for unskilled work. Trust me, the best shit I can get right now is two fucking hours a week, TWO FUCKING HOURS A WEEK. I'm pulling my hair out right now trying to find a fucking job. Cali is filled to fucking capacity, grow wherever the hell you already live, I'm sure there's a bigger market for mediocre buds out there anyways.

Someone on here should do a FAQ/writeup on moving to CA to try and avert all these threads.

Geek, I won't jump down ya throat, but I will give you my 2 cents...

I know some of the folks here seem hostile, but there is some legitimate warnings in the messages. If you are serious about coming out here, you need a plan. I have a few comments and thoughts...

1. Although Cali is going through a rough patch, it's still the best state, despite all of its problems and Cali haters stating otherwise.

2. Do not come here unless you are skilled at something. I'm not just talking about growing skills, I'm talking about skill that can land you a job. Even skilled labor jobs are tight around here, but if you're good at what you do, I always believe talent will always win in the end.

3. While you're planning, go to school. Study items like biology, especially plant physiology, soil science, etc. Any math, computer, engineering stuff will be good, too. If pot ever becomes legal on a federal level, they're are major players poised to invest heavy in it, and jobs will become available, not only dispensaries, but science/pharmaceutical jobs. Right now, there is a major medical marijuana study going on at UC Davis for multiple sclerosis. The company that is sponsoring it is a major player (I'm not sure, but it's someone like Merck, Abbot LAbs, Amgen...somebody like that). These folks already have lobbyists lined up and the political connections.

4. If/when this happens, it'll be probably in tandem with the expansion on 'green jobs' here. They're going to need people with skills in environmental engineering dealing with irrigation systems, solar arrays, security, etc. These will be good jobs and won't be handed to illegals. Marijuana AgBiz will be in full swing.

5. Stay clear of any gangster/ghetto shit! This includes the appearance of it as well. If you plan on growing, be low key, never floss, drive a modest car, don't hang with stupid or violent people, for they are shit magnets! Learn discretion and be very selective of whom you associate with.

Just some food for thought. Good luck,it won't be easy but don't let anyone talk you out of your dreams!

I'd still recommend CO instead of CA. Young scene vs mature, from the CO threads it appears that supply of quality is short there, comparable laws. CA has distribution networks that are ensconced and have been in operation for years. Local CO LEO may not even be as much of a hassle as some of the local yokel county sheriffs in parts of CA. Overall cost of living is lower, and sales tax is actually reasonable instead of 10% like CA. Downside is 60 feet of snow every fucking year.

My bro used to live in colorado, I told him we should open up a delivery service out there. Due to the snow, have a damn snow plow as the delivery vehicle. Just make sure to have enough stocked up for the snow filled months and all would be set.

I hate the snow though so the above only made sense in my mind BUT for others hell yes. Colorado would do very well especially with the many states around it as well. Larger potential of patients all over the place than california as far as logistics go.

Plus colorado is better on gun laws as well and not so anal as cali on other laws also. So if and when the feds did try and cause an issue they won't be able to tack on the additional crimes like they would in california for someone for instance having a gun in the home where the herb was, if there was a child in the house and so on.

Go work on the rigs for a couple months, odds are easy as hell to get hired, get enough cash to get your grow rolling and enjoy. Buy some land, not sure how expensive it is out there but odds are cheaper than here... Wait if it is drilling land then I don't know...

This is great thread, anyone one who smokes and doesn't live in cali has heard this potential business opportunity from someone at some point.

Some places allow you to grow as many plants in a certain square footage.
Like 100ft by 100ft?
Thats like easily 50 plants or more...

Or sticky this one. It has all the pertinent info to maybe discourage a few Darwin Award candidates from loading their U-hauls and heading for Cali.

That's good news. It's bound to fail in FL, but they'll get another chance eventually. Medical MJ has been the one bright spot in an otherwise dismal and hostile US cannabis climate. Actually it surprises the hell out of me, how successful mmj has been at the state level.

Do people in other states not realize that those of us in cali are not all living on the beach and surfing?

We have stuff called "snow" (I think that is the technical term for it) over here in cali as well.

As far as driving, have you ever driven IN an actual busy area before? If anything us cali drivers have dealt with ALL sorts of crazy ass drivers and actually can be decent at it.

Now if there were only 3 red lights in the entire state like colorado has (see I can stereotype as well lol) then anything more than 5 cars on the road might be a bit confusing and difficult to deal with.

A Different Take...

A Different Take...

Not to hijack but I figured the original poster's question was as answered as it was gonna get and since we had a lot of Cali traffic already flowing through here I thought I'd take advantage of it...

I've been reading about growing for the better part of a year now and it's now looking like it may be possible for me. I'm established in California, have a job that keeps my bills paid, and have been around these forums long enough to realize that most of the time a grower gets busted its because they wearn't following the basics (no tell, no smell, no flash, no apartments, tidy house, etc...)

I want to grow because it seems like a great hobby but if my hobby get net me an extra $1500 or so month that would be more than welcome. My problem is that the garden I've designed in my head would have me riding dirty (30 or so small plants in a SOG).

What advice would you give to a person in my circumstance? Thanks in advance.
