HortProOrganics, I agree with Jasmine in admiring you, for looking deeper in to the cornucopia of chemicals in marijuana. I've heard the chemical named CBD is proving to have the more pain relieving effects by opening or closing some switch in the brain.
I believe that is what allows the THC to become activated in the brain.
I was thinking, doesn't Industrial-grade Hemp contain far more CBD than 'Lilith in my closet' ?
I wonder if somehow we could harvest and extract this CBD from Hemp and,
a pill or tonic could be made available? What do you think ?

Again, to all, thanks for the warm welcome and the interest. I have been known to be called a "plant encyclopedia" or "hort-warrior", so I am not at all new to all sorts of questions pertaining to horticulture and agriculture.

Jasmine, thank you for your post, as I strive to unlock more secrets and info on the medicine of this great plant, as well as nutrition and fiber content( hemp-crete is one of my interests I have been leaning on getting my hands dirty on, something for my green belt).

Owl-thank you as well. CBD........its interesting that you say that, for most people I talk with-fellow professional growers, lobbyists, politicians, doctors, activists, patients, and rec smokers, tend to really open their eyes when you mention the other chemical compounds in the plant, not to mention the phytosterols containing in the plant( kinda getting of the subject, but I tend to be an encyclopedia, so bear with me, sorry moderators!). I agree with the forward theory on CBD levels in industrial hemp, as I know that both the governments in Europe and the US, plus the medical field, used and still use today(political restrictions vary) a hemp oil and distillate for anxiety disorders and schizophrenia etc etc. Unfortunately, the bountiful information on this has not really met the same mass quantity of urgency in the breeding and classification toward unlocking other medical benefits of industrial hemp. Now, with that said, this does not mean it is not being looked into, as it has been used in the past and even in the present. Hell, industrial hemp has a great deal of medical benefits within nutritional parameters of internal medicine, ie Omega 3's, phytosterols, micro-nutrients, minerals, proteins, other fatty acids, etc. etc. So in all, if I had the room, I would really consider breeding for both higher CBD( maybe even taking the DNA sequence that reserves the higher CBD, and insert into a single marijuana strain cell to grow out a seedling, all in a lab of course-lots of work, but can be done). So yes, higher CBD, but I would still give pyschoactive compounds like THC a symbiotic relationship with CBD, since it does act kinda like a binder in some sorts.....

and Jaykush- thank you for the invite. Definitely my place of order, but I don't limit myself to that. Plant disorders, nomenclature, pest/disease/viral id and management, etc.etc., I know a lot, and I love to help. I hope that doesn't seem egotistical in any way, for that is not my aim at all. For me, knowing more that you know yesterday is my philosophy, and being in the hort and ag industry for years, doesn't mean even I cannot learn something new, or old. But yes, I will check it out. Nothing more rewarding than a flourishing ecosystem beneath the harmful UV rads, and I have a great deal to contribute.

Owl-sorry, just forgot. Yes, tissue culture from one plant, namely for me an embryo or a meristem( just something I prefer ). I am playing with the idea for a future experiment( unfortunately, I have a lot on my plate right now that is growing) that will include taking specific traits( eliminating stress factors in the DNA, like cultural stress, pest/disease/viral etc) and combining them to strengthen the overall health and production of the plant. Of course, I will, one day, hopefully work on industrial hemp too, if I can find some specific genetics I am looking for(another job for another time)

Thanks again to everyone, and hope to see more questions, comments, hello's and so on. And I will hopefully see you guys in other forums too.

Welcome

There is a forum called Organic soil so drop on by...

Mosca-sorry about not replying earlier, I missed ya. Could you explain more in detail about PM, and what exactly you are looking for in terms of healing.

Jack-hey man, I am checking it out. I love organic underworlds.....:deadhorse

Thanks HortPro-- I am interested in your research and findings of which strains are better for which types of pain management. Also, I would like to hear about your hybrids and their effects on pain management.

Cheers!

Mosca, I will post my huge list for pain management, including which varieties are better with muscoskeletal pain, neuropathic, epidermis disorders and so on later tonight. Also, I will break down if the delivery of the particular plant will be defined as well ie. tonic, tincture, inhalation, edibles etc.

Welcome! I'm a nursery stock grower here in Oregon and I only use organic growing methods which includes mixing my own soils and the application of aerated compost teas, et al.

Hope to see you on the Organic Soil threads. Good folks over there with a bunch of people who know the deal with regard to organic processess, IMHO

YMMV

Clackamas- glad to see a fellow Oregonian on here. I am actually planning on moving back up there in the next year or 2. And yes, I will hurl myself to the organics page to toss my advice and experience. Thanks for the welcome as well.

You might want to get involved with the OAN (Oregon Association of Nurseries) which is the governing body for nursery stock growers like myself.

We have our annual show coming up later this month, i.e. the "Farwest 2009" show which will have 850 exhibitors this year - everything from soil folks, fertilizer companies, greenhouse suppliers, etc. - i.e. a real 'grow show' run by and for professionals like yourself and myself.

Oregon is the 2nd largest grower of nursery stock behind California. Good people involved up and down the Willamette Valley. You'll be welcome indeed!

Peace

CC

Clackamas-I know all too well of OAN, and been to the Farwest show many times actually. I do miss it, since I moved back down to Cali 6 years ago, but like I said, I will be returning to the Pacific Northwest soon enough. And also resided in the Willamette Valley as well, Salem/Keizer area actually. I am sure we will have lots to talk about in the future, and not just about Cannabis.

I look forward to meeting with you and discussing 'growing' using organic process as well.

I've been involved with OAN since 1994 and my 'farm' is certified by Oregon Tilth as well. We sell our products through OGC (Organic Growers Company) out of Eugene.

I'm also on the 'steering committee' of the OAN transportation deal, i.e. helping growers move their products from point of origin to their customers, i.e. basic logistics.

I have 35 years in the wholesale produce industry (with a heavy concentration in logistics) with organically grown produce being my main concentration. I'm familiar with all of the growing districts from Salinas down to and including Yuma, Arizona growing districts.

Welcome!

Cheers!

Clackamas- the nurseryman nerd in me is very pleased and impressed. Well, if you ever need a steeled professional that knows his stuff, I am always looking for different areas. Can't do the 150 lb. B and B rootballs/lifting anymore, but my knowledge is always sought after, as well as my managment/in field experience. Like I said, good to meet ya, and looking forward for great, hort/ag conversations.
