I was at wal-mart and...

I ask the guy who works there if there are any voice recorders (looking at prices)

sure he says, he was very friendly.

The guy starts walking, and one can't help but notice, both of his legs we're very crooked, he was leaning -alot-.. every step, man it made me think of things

and then I get there

and I see this girl, with down syndrome, you know how they have this face

she said hi to me, and I said hi back smiling

then her mom (probably foster parent because there was another girl I saw that had something about her too) started screaming and cussing at her

-
To get things in perspective. today was a real bad bay, head pains, no motivation
when I saw that, I felt bad for them

I can't say it makes me satisfied with my life,
but it makes me think about my insatisfaction

I dunno how to feel about this, should I just be dettached ?
not let my mind wander off ?

it made me want to try to do the best out of my life

when I was a cashier at some place, a kid (20ish) came up, his face was all burned, I didn't even know how to look at him,
so I just treated him normally

life huh

Well it's good to laugh about the crazy world, with it in a private setting.

I know what you are talking about, it's like seeing a mother figure beating darn near an infant. I am not sure how to address these emotional/somatic concerns most of the time, well race is becoming easier for me...but man there are so many lifeforms.

Yeah it's not that much about the mom cussing the child

It was really the handicaps these people had
The guy with severe leg problems, and the girl with down syndrome

Pondering life is never a lost cause.

sometimes I ponder too much I think <-

sadly the only thing we can do to prevent things like this is by eradicating individuals who carry the genes which are responsible for these things.
eradicating individuals? WTF RU smokin?

that has to be sarcasm

im not sure if we can prevent or should prevent those things, maybe it's normal ?

I didn't hear you say anything about the fact that the guy who was having a hard time walking is actually walking to assist you with something....I'd say that's a pretty positive thing....
Instead of seeing this person's handicap...I think it would be a better thing to look past it and see how impressive it is for someone to overcome this limitation. Years ago, they'd be relegated to institutions....now they're helping you at Wal-mart....I think that deserves at least a small K+.

It's a good thing to feel everything and put it into perspective Rabbit....

I had a similar experience the day I closed on my first house. Settlement was at 9:00 a.m., we finished up and I was on my way to the Depot (it was a fixer-upper and I was eager to get started). On the way, I stopped for lunch at a McDonalds, still very euphoric from my home purchase, I made my way to the counter. As I ordered, I noticed something was just not "quite right" with the young man taking my order, handsome young guy, maybe 3-4 years younger than I at that time. As I waited I realized he was kinda slow, some form of mild retardation maybe.....happy as all hell to be there working and talking to people......I had to leave immediately.

As I got to my car, I started to weep uncontrollably. Here I was at the beginning of this glorious journey, nothing but potential lay ahead for my life.....And then there was this young man, who was probably working the best job he'd ever have. It just struck me about how many things he may miss out on because of the hand he was dealt and I looked at my own life, in that instant, and what seemed like such a stark contrast.

We were both so happy that day for different reasons.....I was overwhelmed at that moment. I'm sure I was emotional from the day's events, but it was put into perspective in an instant.

I had nothing but compassion for that guy, his name was Brian, and he taught me a valuable lesson that day.

Sorry Rabbit, I didn't mean to jack your thread bro. I just wanted to convey that it's a good thing to feel all those emotions and let them guide and mold you.

It helps keep us grounded.

Peace,

very understandable randude....I'm actually a very empathetic person. However is it "our responsibilty" to exist only to take care and aid a population of individuals who can't care for themselves?

H20: I understand what you're saying. I agree that people have circumvented the natural process of selection.....people that have very serious genetic issues do in fact pass these things on, and the quality of life for those individuals that inherit those genetic weaknesses is sometimes in question. Survival of the fittest means simply that....I didn't make the rules either...but clearly given other circumstances it would be untenable for certain individuals to continue to live or reproduce.
That being said, it still brings a smile to my face to think that in spite of the limitations some individuals face.....they can accomplish so much. We take for granted some rather simple things, and these people blow the curve on that with every action. Makes me pause.

i don't see too many people with major physical/mental handicaps reproducing,it seems to me the handicap in it self is natures way of "culling" bad genes...

Although they may not reproduce, their existence places strain on their family, their families finances, etc. I grew up next to a family that had a kid with down syndrome. I used to play with his brother so the kid tagged along a lot. The parents used to lock him in the basement, "the playroom", if they had to run out to the grocery store, quick errands, etc.

IMO, its good to get a 'reality check' once in a while to put things in perspective, to make sure you're not drifting into some bubble and getting too cozy with your own life. The world is a big place with many types of people in it.

Some plants need a little help. Some folks need a little help.

Some of them are actually quite productive, imagine that.

Diversity is a good thing.

I totally disagree with "wiping" anybody off the map because of a handicap. That is just wrong, at least wal-mart hires them for a job there. I bet you money a lot of the people who are handicapped enjoy being able to have a job and try to be as normal as they possibly can. Can you think of their outlook on life vs. some kid who screwed off and never tried to go to college or get a good job that works there? I bet a lot of them have better work ethic than they do.

That is about the only good thing I can say about Wal-Mart, I generally try to avoid shopping there or other major supermarkets. I prefer mom and pop businesses although in my town there is no such thing as mom and pop grocery stores anymore. I haven't seen one here since the early 90's. Same thing with pretty much every other kind of store. I used to go rent VHS tapes from one, get hardware parts at one, go see movies at one, ect. Now all I see is Kroger, Target, Wal-Mart, Sams Club, Home Depot, Lowes, blockbuster, cinemark everywhere.. Quite sad actually.

its not even like just the disability thing anymore in this country and others ,not that it ever was, but like the whole race thing too im not sure if anyone has mentioned that . Like i may say things sometimes to get a laugh like about races , like stereotypes, but ive started to see the error in my ways. i like just started working at a resort where i lifeguard and i constant come in contact with people who dont always speak my language or even reside in my country or continent for that matter and i always make it a point to be as courteous as i would be to my own friend , and i work as a lifeguard so i talk to 20 or so people per shift i dont even know ,like german spanish hispanic and french people and i personally like being nice to them ,i also enjoy hearing their language and even their accents

like i was in the break room the other day by myself watching the simpsons and the people from the laundry come up and sit down to eat lunch and i knew they spoke spanish so i let them have the remote and we watched que locura together (its like spanish punk'd sorta) i dont understand any spanish but it was still enjoyable ,,well they did call me a gringo but i was eating fajitas from a fast food place sooo i kinda deserved it hahah

gringo means like american punk sorta i think
