htgsupply growbright carbon filters, avoid them.

Got the 6" growbright carbon filter and fan combo from htgsupply. At about 6 weeks flower with 6 plants it became worthless and was barely filtering any of the smell. Spend the money on a better filter. I used it with their matched fan, even ran it on lower speed and it couldn't keep up with the smell. My room is only 3ft x 4ft.

whats your humidity at?

50% with exhaust on full
60% when I dropped it to about 1/4 fan speed to allow longer contact time with the carbon, still didn't work.

The growbright fan works good. The growbright ballast I have fails to fire every now and then. The bulb that came with it blew after 2 weeks. I won't buy growbright stuff anymore. It's worth the money to get better equipment. HTG supply is cheap and ok with the shipping times, I would use them again for other stuff.

my filter seems to work atm i have 2 at about 5 weeks flower and no smells, however the bulb that came w/ my hps was dead out of the box i never said anything tho those guys are cool.

I was given a filter to test the other day. At first glimpse I was a little skeptical, but after installing it and pulling air I can say I am pretty impressed, but as they say the proof is in the pudding. This will need to be running for a complete cycle before I will recommend them either way.

If your interested, check out odorsok.com. They are half the price of a can filter and can be reused/refreshed or so they say.

No, I do not get paid to promote these. My local shop wanted to know how they performed under normal conditions. In a cab running 400 watt HPS with 6" vortex, temps 84 - 85f, humidity at 48 to 50, and 7 plants in bloom.

That sucks, I just bought one of those. Hopefully the fan isnt a piece of sh!T too.

I've used the Odorsok, and that thing couldn't hold down the smell of my two small plants in flower. The Odorsok is a joke of a filter.

BTW, the Organic Air cone filter is no better than the Odorsok.

I picked up a General Hydro Dutch Breeze filter, the DFS1 (their smallest), and it hasn't let a single odor through for the past six months.

hmmmmm......your humidity seems fine, yea prolly is the filter. how many pounds of carbon is it filled with?

Odor socks are not worth the money you pay for it. I would try foothill filters, can filters by pro or DIY.

sorry for your luck man.

is that a odorsok rep or something... we all know odorsoks do not work... there have been many many many trials on this forum with odorsoks... its pretty conclusive there useless for cannabis.

Most important thing with conventional carbon filters is how many LBs of carbon they have...

I agree with the Odorsok hate.

Don't buy Odorsoks, they suck, are a security risk for anything in flower other than maybe a micro cab, and probably should quit being made in favor of real carbon filters. Carbon filters = shoes, Odorsoks = socks. Which is going to withold the smell of your foot more? Ha. I'm sorry if your company or the company itself was trying to be innovative, but they just don't work.

Through veg and until about week 6 it worked fine, week 7 some was making it through, week 8 I walked down the street and had to come back home to shut off the fans and chop them. It wasn't helping at all. It's a somewhat smelly strain that I am running.

The growbright filter I used was 9"x18" and has 14 lbs carbon according to the graphic on the HTG website but if you look on the growbright site its only 7.6 lbs. HTG lists the weight in the text on the page as 17lbs but doesn't specify if that is carbon or total weight. The comparable size can 33 filter has 16lbs carbon.

I can hear some movement when I shake it around, maybe it's not packed tight enough, maybe it's not thick enough, maybe it's just not good carbon.

I'm going to call HTG and see what's up with the wrong info on their page, if I knew it was really only half the weight of the name brand filters I wouldn't have tried it. I still need to call them about the burned out bulb anyways.

Well this was a free-bee for me, so I said sure I will give it a shot. Can not say yes or no at this point since it has only been in the cab for 48 hours or so. But so far so good. But if what you say is correct, then I guess I could expect to notice odor in the next week to ten days. Once I do I will just switch back to the real 6" OdorXtractor Carbon Filter I took off.

Good to hear this in advance though since we were about to take off for a few days next week, and now will need to monitor this much closer before hand.

if you can hear it move that is definetly the problem the carbon should be packed so tightly it should not move at all. Actually they say not to refill it yourself because you can not get it packed as tightly as they commercially pack it.

The browbright 600 watt bulbs are complete garbage too... I had 4, they went out at least twice each within three months! At first I kept mailing them in for warranty, which HTG easily covered, but I got sick of it eventually.
