My best Purple Kush colas

Finally cut my Kushies down today! I still have the biggest cola to go....I am giving her a few more days to really bulk up. Here are a few shots of the smaller of the two plants. I grew these in loose coco enclosed in a 5-gal bucket and utilized a recirculating system. NO NUTES THE LAST 40 DAYS!!!! let me restate that since most people use WAY to many nutes.

NO NUTES THE LAST 40 DAYS!!!! 71 days total flower.

I will be sure to post more pics once they dry. These pictures are after what I consider the 1st trim. :joint:

Smashing! Looks way good! I am running a few coco plants (run to waste) next to my DWC plants this next round. I like to grow a few trees and would love to be able to pick your brain over your recirculating system. That is if you dont mind. If you are up for it i will check back and hit you up with what i have and what i am thinking of doing! Your plants are very nice and the fact that you did not give nutes for 40 days is just WOW. The nute peeps might not want you to say that to loud!! lol $$$$

How many plants and got any yeild numbers?

I will upload some pics of my recirculating system this afternoon. I spent about $50 total for 4 plants, but everything is scalable for about $10 per plant. The best part......only 5 drilled holes !
I only had 4 plants going this batch. 2 different strains: Purple Kush and G13. The G13 is total crap and I only grow it for blunt weed! I will keep you posted on the yields but I am thinking at least 1.5 oz dried and cured per plant.

NOPE!
Keep it comming your doing fine...............

Hey did you start off in coco with the recirculating system or did you hand feed first? I see a ton of people running hand water systems that run to waste but i would really think that a auto feeding would be best for me. Not lazy just would like to be able to leave the op for a day or two at a time. Also the 10bucks per plant sounds outstanding! This is what i got thus far....

1.Botanicare CocoGro(large bale)

2. Pure Blend Pro Grow , Pure Blend Pro Bloom

3.Botanicare Supplements Kit (cal/mag clearex and hydrogaurd)

4.3gallon pots

5. I will be running og 818xblue sat 2.2(Spice of Life) when they get to my post box.

you did say purple right? never the less some nice sized colas, looks like sk1 hybrid/big bud..

they didn't show purple on the buds this grow, I think the heat had something to do with that (never below 80 F). The fan leaves showed some purple but not as much as previous grows. There is NO Bigbud in the jeans. But, since they were gifted from clone I really can't guarantee the strain. The Purple REALLY comes thru in the taste....pure grapes. These colas were not typical of the other grows with the same stain. There were some very specific things I did and did not do this time to see if size and quality were affected. Boy was it ever! I will go into detail in a bit.........you know you like the suspense! ;P

bambam...I will get to you in a little bit, I have to smoke a bong and mow the lawn. Leaving for vacation in a few days. Talk about bad timing for harvest!!!

oh well...thats besides the point I guess.

Bambam..
Here is how I did my coco recirculation system. Essentially I set out to produce some sweet buds at the cheapest cost possible. (Don't we all!)

I went from 2" rocwool cubes to the green pots you see below. I got them at Walmart for a couple bucks and they fit right on top of a 5-gallon bucket. When you seat the pail it will leave about 8" of the 5-gal bucket for runoff. By-the-way, I used one 400w HPS light for all cycles.

THis picture also shows the drip system, which was kept pretty simple for fear of leaks on an oak floor! I simply used 1 feed tube per pail and then distributed it on the surface of the coco. I used three 1/2 gal drippers for each bucket and I could have used more with only positive results.

This next pic shows the entire system. (minus the cut tubing at the bottom, pretend thats not cut) Essentially, this is as simple as it gets. We simply use the law of equilibrium and realize that water will always sit at the same height no matter how many containers we use. (as long as your house is level and the containers are roughly the same size)

Noticed I used a fairly shallow (12") reservoir and lifted the 5-gal buckets off the ground a few inches. That means when the reservoir is filled to about 10", the 5- gal buckets were only filled to 7" or so. Thus leaving the bottom of the green bucket out of the drain water. catch my drift?

heres the deal with the tubes. I placed a drain in the bottom of each container. (1 only.) I used a 7/8" spade bit and 3/4" fittings. All the fittings were 3/4"-to-tubbing adapters that were screwed in and then epoxied. I used standard PVC fittings for the rest. I'm sure you can figure it out from the pics. It is just a manifold that ties all the 5-gal buckets and sends the water back to the reservoir. Don't forget the valve!!!!! It is important when you flush.

So essentially all we did was spread the reservoir out to all 5 containers. THe water just keeps pumping thru the drippers and drains back to the reservoir. I just added water to the main reservoir, 5-gallons per fill and I NEVER completely changed the reservoir. Mainly for two reasons; 1-the water never got too funky or out of ph and 2- It would have been a real bitch because of space issues. REMEMBER: use Hydroguard in ALL reservoirs just to be safe. And mix your new water/ nute solution BEFORE adding to the system.

This system worked so well I didn't even use a timer for the water cycles. I could have, I just didn't.... I just plugged the pump in and turned it off some time later. No big deal because coco is essentially a hydro medium anyways.
I would periodically add new water/ nute solution directly onto the coco just to draw in new O2 and flush any built up salts. (I used regular tap water this time less $$$)

Now for the fun and $$$$ saving stuff!
Here are the ONLY nutes I used.

By the way these bottles are all more than half way filled. One of the main things I wanted to test is cheap nutes on coco plants. You know, since they always market the high dollar "special" nutes for coco. Now I am not saying that I didn't fertilize these plants, I did, very heavily for a short while. I fertilized for about the first 7 weeks bringing the ppm from 300 in week 3 to 1800 by the 7th week. But after 7 weeks I emptied my res to start flushing. From here on I did not use the pump to recirculate the water since that would kind of defeat the purpose. I just let the water keep draining into the res until it was full and I emptied as needed. That was the only flaw of the whole system, because I had to siphon the water out once filled.

The reason you can flush for the last 30-40 days is; coco will still hold trace amounts of nutes to keep them happy until they need to start feeding from the fan leaves. As seen below in the last plant I have to harvest tomorrow. I did not flush huge quantities of water!!!!!! I used about 1-gallon of tap per day and switched to distilled for the last few weeks.

Here are the things I did a little different than usual to see if yield and quality were affected.

1- I never cut or trimmed a single fan leave or vegetation above an area I deemed to get "good light".

2- I cut any and everything below the "good light" level. Unless it was a nice shoot making it's way to the sun! My theory was to get rid of ANYTHING that would not be a good dense bud once dried. Therefor the other main colas would benefit.

In my opinion, both these things were crucial in getting HUGE main colas on this batch. I will confirm when dried. The last batch averaged just over an ounce of cured buds per plant.

Let me know if you have any questions or want more details or pictures on the bucket system.

Here is a full plant shot to show that the main cola isn't all I got!!!

Peace

GreenBush 420: Thank you very much for that! Looks really simple and i know for sure i could build that if i can build a recDWC system! Hell i could use a shit ton of the same equipment for this! You the man!

Why on earth do they call that purple kush??? :spank:

Purple vs Green

and some purple

sow the seeds

IMO it doesn't look like the PK I've seen, then again I'm no expert by any means. Regardless it sure does look killer. Must be tasty with a 40 day flush too props on that.

TBR: Purple kush has the name because it is in fact purple. Not super purple, but a purplish tinge to it. Then again purp strains don't always go purple...I've seen clones that were supposed to change but stayed green, and other times I've seen it so purple some might mistake it for black.

Yours look killer too man. Love the 4week no nutes. Gonna give that a try on a couple plants next go around. See what the difference really is.

Take care bro!
