REAL TALK - Who's Flowered with Mh?

ok so poor lil me, i have no money for an HPS bulb to put on my 400w switchable balast. so the next best thing is to flower with my existing Mh bulb, right? i heard and read about it all- the dense nugs, the red vs blue spectrums, and so on. but can someone please show me the flowering differences?

cuz im growing LA confidential, and she's also a dense lil girl. would it matter much?

also what would happen if i later added in the HPS bulb? will it be ok? am i risking anything here?

any and all help is always appreciated

thanks again!

have only grown with a MH once.one side of the grow space had a MH the other side had a HPS.saw little to no differeance.
It wont hurt switching bulbs at any stage of growing.:joint:

I'd like to see comparison shots too. From what I've read and seen there doesn't seem to be a significant difference. So why does everyone get hps?

This is bag seed flowered under 250 watt metal halide. Turned out great.

Hmm. That is funny, a little while back I ran 5 hortilux hps and one agrosun (I think it was agro at least) MH conversion 600 watters in a room, and there were noticeable differences in the density/size of the MH flowers. Before I had started that one, I was of the mind that mixed bulb types = best, and I still believe that, but I just don't have the setup yet to make that happen for me.

At my urging, my friend is currently adding some MVapor to his flower room. We'll see what happens, I always heard good things.:2cents:

First 1k light I had was a MH, that was sometime mid 70's. Of course, I vegged and flowered under that bulb. Soon after, an intelligent friend bought me a 1k HPS in exchange for some future harvest. Of course, the first thing I did was veg and flower a clone of the same plant under both. No difference whatsoever in any discernable area, including yield. Just another case of the power of nature over nurture. All the ideas about spectrum needs appear to me (heck, I'm color blind!) to be speculative and not fact based. I would guess that spectrum would come into play more if overall lumens were insufficient for growth. When the light is bright enough, the plants don't give a hoot about colors.

Mercury Vapor lamps have little to no usable light ... sure they're Intense but all they really do is make MJ stretch looking for light they can use. They run very hot so be careful if you plan on continuing.

Merc Vapor is a waste of electricity for sure. I have used MH many times for flowering with very good results. If you don't have the cash for HPS don't sweat it . Just my opinion.

MH runs hotter than HPS, and when your running high wattage bulbs, every bit to keep the room cool is a plus. MV suxs, useless, MH is good i got a deal on ebay but would rather have HPS

a 1000w MH will put off less lumens and more heat then a 1000w HPS. I have seen many grows with MH flower only and the MH makes plants finish slightly quicker, about a week i think. The MH buds were more dense and more trichs. MH produces a small amount of UV light which triggers cannabis to produce trich glands and THC as a type of plant sun screen. Many people use pure MH for the first two weeks of flower to keep plants short and reduce stretch. The blue spectrum of the MH help reduce stretch and is one of the reasons the buds are more dense. Less stretch means bud sites are closer together.

I have done a few grows with MH and HPS for flowering at the same time and plants on the MH side become more resin coated and dense.

thanks guys! thats just some of the confidence i need.

MH runs hotter? damn my 400w aint too bad tho..

and i'd love some THC covered dense nugs! yum :)

soon enough i may just switch to the HPS bulb. mostly cuz yall say it runs cooler.

and its always good.. to be cool

thanks again.

anybody got comparision photos?
