I think two threads, beginner and intermediate/advanced, since its easier to sort the basic stuff from the intermediate/advanced.

also I was looking though and I think half the stickies are kinda pointless in my opinion, the show me the buds has nothing to do with organic soil really, and the 3 little birds I have to say are kinda not that helpful, except recycling soil one, the molasses one can be summed up saying, microbes like sugar so feed them blackstrap molasses, its very long and could be summed up saying that. also there are a couple others but I cant see the stickies so ... also the EJ sticky is very pointless, I gathered nothing from that, a bottle is a bottle nute add 1-5ml and then be done... the dolomite one is good if it's cleaned up and to the point, basically what I got was wait 6 months to fully have the benefit of dolomite lime. I agree from another topic of having the stickies locked

we need stickies that are the heart of organics like : recycling soil , composting, worming, tea brewing, microbes, PH, dolomite..

Man do I agree with that.
Maybe we could have like maybe six stickies. Information for new growers. And close the threads. Let the discussions happen in the open forums. That way they could be seen and answered.
I think the advanced topics belong in the open forum.
More opinions needed please.

Sounds like things are heading in a good direction. Definitely for opening up the thread topics to encourage some active discussion while maintaining stickies on the topic where there is a definitive collection of info. Sorta like a dictionary vs an encyclopedia. The core tenets of organics should be highlighted so beginners can sort out the basics and then dive in topic by topic to get a handle on things. Any questions or diff. recipe ideas they might have can be in the open threads on those topics where there's already going to be hundreds of posts of a similar ilk.

So far so good either way, this forum is def. my most visited and as a green grower, no pun intended, it's been an invaluable resource.

I think ten is too many. I'd like to keep it to six or seven.
What if we just took the main article of the threads we wanted to stick and post them? Then unstick the other articles and leave them open for discussion in the open forum?

B1 I think you should put the thread organics for beginners in the sticky that is for beginners. that is really helpful to newbs and would be a shame for that to get pushed down and lost with the other threads in the general section

How about this?
How 'bout making a STICKY titled "Reference Library". We can fill it as full as we want with links to good and popular threads. I mean we could put dozens of links there. Even off site links.
Then, put the "Top Five" STICKY threads in the sticky section and appoint a forum member to keep up with a sticky that he would be responsible for replying to new posts there. We could start a POLL thread and let people vote on the Top Five stickies. Or just choose the top five most popular stickies by reply or view count.
Does that make sense?

Just an attempt at humor.. I am reminded of a playboy cartoon of a squatting Moses next to a pot plant smoking a joint with a caption of "Moses and the burning Bush"

You are good with soil so why don't you write something up on soil recycling for us.

I think I can. I know "My style" so I need to be right with some cash to buy materials.. I can use the produce for my other garden aspirations so it's NP.

It will be about creating and maintaining a "compost" mix. I'll add that to my to-do list..

The Brits get upset calling compost mixes , "Soil."

im Brit and i call it soil ;)

anyway i think that soil is the main thing. those mixes at the start of the organics for beginners thread is what most people will be looking for when first coming to the forum having been switched omn to organics, so a soil sticky gets my vote

Yeah what are they looking for? The "Holy Grail" of growing perhaps?

It's been years and years since I thought of using some "Thing" that would make it grow magically but I bet there are many who are in those shoes..

Perhaps that is why most start with liquids off the shelf...

We may think Organic soil is just another "style" but, sadly, it may be an dieing art.

So what is Organic Soil then? A discipline? A Religion? Oh boy I need to go do something else LOL

we need a sticky on product marketing and how it relates to choosing an organic soil growing strategy, and how to read a label. perhaps emphasizing that there is no holy grail, only hard work and preparation. Also a list of products trying to "look" organic that or not organic i.e. superthrive.

too many people are spending way too much money, and many are not choosing to do so, but rather are being swindled. Then they come on here and repeat the marketing they've been fed like it's religion or worse - science. The bringer of bad news who clues that person in gets negative rep or worse for their trouble.

If we can just point to a sticky written by someone knowledgeable we can keep it from getting personal.

thats a good idea mj if people can agree on what is 'approved' and what isnt...

might i say that 'vermiculture' isnt a particularly nOOb friendly word - perhaps 'worms' or something in the thread title would be clearer.

I'm going to make some changes today. I'm going to put two or three of the old stickies up there. I will probably put the most viewed and replied threads up.

Organics for Beginners
Organic Fanatic Collective
Moonshine Mix

This is not permanent. Your opinions matter. I want to hear from you all.

Burnone,

I agree with getting a few good stickies or references posted and then locking them so they don't become poluted. If over time new information comes to light, they can easily be updated/changed by moderators.

BTW I'll be available for input in about a day and a half Vonforne.
