Looking great! Especially those stems that are almost the size of the net pot :yoinks:

It looks like you are running 2x 600W over your scrog and the ladies look really happy. What are your thoughts on lowering the lights closer to the bud tops, or switching to a single 1000w, I think either of these options will give a lot more lumens. The generic HPS bulbs have 142K lumens for 1Kw and 92K lumens for 600w. Light power is not additive (i.e. 4 x 150W will come no where near 1 x 600w) and your scrog area is 20 - 25sq' one nice hood should be able to cover that area. Also the cost of an amazing 1kW and super cool new hood should seem like a super bargain when compared to the yield increase.

Thanks for bringing more good stuff to life :joint:

Thanks. The 600's are 15 inches from the canopy. I don't want them any closer than that.

The 600's do the job fine. If it aint broke why fix it? lol

Also, I would argue that I'd get more yield with twin 600's as opposed to a single 1000 watter but I'm no expert.

Plus, 1 hood won't effectivley cover my screen which is 4x5. 2 hoods don't even do it in my opinion. You can never have too much light.

Been watching this one and just gotta say I'm so impressed!

Posted earlier that I was going to build a similar system but had to can those plans.

Keep the updates coming! Your canopy looks excellent and the fat trunks look like they're gonna crack your pipes haha.

Great work!

Thanks for chatting my friend. I have been running 4 lights over an 8 x 8 area using 5 gal buckets. and I agree my current hoods don't do the trick, however I am thinking about using 4 bigger hoods over a 5 x 5. I've been really lazy over the past few years and went with the ain't broke don't fix it idea. In stoned reflection I know it has cost me several OZ per harvest. :wallbash:

I would love to make a little side wager on 1 1Kw v your current 2 x 600w. My bet switching to this "Sun System Magnum XXXL, 8" Air-Cooled Reflector • The largest reflector in the industry. • Reflector Dimensions: 38 ½” Long x 29 ½” Wide x 9 ½” tall." with a great 1000w (Lumatek) electronic ballast and 1Kw Otip Red, you will yield at least 4oz more on your next run. I think you'll really be amazed if you look at the light spread out of this monster hood (two would be bigger than your scrog area!).

Peace :joint:

Outdoor update:

Plant 1 = 56 inches

Plant 2 = 43 inches

These will be 5 footers by the time they flower. Is it outrageous to think that they may get to 8 feet?

I can't imagine what they may yield but I'm excited to find out.

I have never said I was a math/lighting expert, but isn't 600w+600w=1200w? Isn't that more total than a 1000w, and with better distribution/less heat on top of that? Another thing to look at is the overall efficiency of a 600w vs a 1000w.

He's saying that I'll get more yield from a single 1000 than I will with twin 600's.... an interesting debate.

Thanks man. I hope you get to build your aero system someday.

I'm not so good with my high school physics any more but I remember that the intensity of light deminishes with the distance from the light. I believe that the deminishment is the square of the inverse of the distance. (i.e. 3 feet away is 1/9 as intense as 1 foot away). Again that class was around 20 years ago.

So my thought is the lumens from a 1000 are much huger than a 600.

* Ballast type: S52 1000 watt HPS
* Initial lumens: 146,000
* Manufacturers part number: 5001671 AHS-1000/Opti-Red

* Ballast type: S106 600 watt HPS
* Initial lumens: 90,000
* Manufacturers part number: 5001670 AHS-600/Opti-Red

So the 1K is more than 150% of the lumens (at every distance). Intensity is not additive. I can stare all day long at 10, 40watt bulbs over my mirror, but staring into a 400w grow light is no fun.

Someone else should give us their two cents worth. But if you want inspiration look up MASHUP http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=119204 and his 4 1Kw XXXL in a 9.5' x 9.5' grow tent. I thought I had some skills after reading his 75 and counting page thread I feel like a freshman who's going to fail out if he doesn't quit hitting the bong and start hitting the books

There is not debate on whether or not a 1000 watt lamp is more intense than a single 600 watt lamp, it just plain is. The thing is that it would have to be mounted much farther away to cover the same area as the two 600w lamps do. Sure, you could outfit it with a large hood to get the foot print, but it still wouldn't be as intense over the whole foot print as what it would be splitting it in half and covering it with the two 600w that are much closer to the plants. Now, for the sake of argument, a 1000w on a light mover would do at least as well as the two 600w lamps, but two 1000w lamp would most definitely out perform either lighting setup.

That looks amazing...great job!!!

Would a similar set up using 6 inch pvc tubes and doing ebb and flow instead of aero work?

The question is not whether it word work.... the question is would it work as well? :wink:

I don't think I have the time to baby sit a system like his so figured ebb and flow would be easier..have done tubs in the past with ebb n flow but think tubes would work better...any ideas?
