Foothold on Reality...Barely

Thanks guys,
It's really not that big of a deal to be honest, I have access to plenty of those particular seeds and I REALLY needed the room. I got my pots in and I transferred everything to where it belongs... water ppm was 158 and pHed to 5.6. Photos later today.

well it always sucks to lose a plant due to an equipment accident. Any way of screwing that fan to a wall or something??
taking cuts or have they already gone to that great compost heap in the sky?

unfortunately, with my frustration kicking into high gear and my need to get the tubs up and running, I didn't take any cuts. 1 of the Berkely seeds is being stubborn, I cracked the peat to see what was goin on and it looked like the tip had dried out somehow... I dunno how, all of the seeds were in the same germ chamber and everyone else (including ms. confused with the 90 degree taproot) is transplanted... this was yesterday... so I put it back in peat in a mound, gave it some warm water and stuck it back in the tray... then I transferred it to a rapid rooter today when they came in. I took a cut from one of the 3 remaining older plants and I put it in the pot the berkely seed is supposed to be in, if it takes, well, we'll deal with that when the time comes :D I know I promised pics but I haven't got them uploaded yet, I'll work on that tonight. :bongsmi:

Sb, what's good my brother in vinyl, you're more than welcome... pull up a chair ;)

SO, my camera battery is dead, I was gonna upload shit today, but the damn thing has to charge, so we'll shoot for tomorrow. I haven't seen any changes in the seedlings that went in the water, which worries me a bit, but I'm not seeing any signs of drooping for root rot, so we'll see what happens over the next few days.

Yessir, give 'em a few days whenever you do anything to see the reaction. Even nutes, little at a time with Super Natural. :joint:

Hey N! :D  Always a pleasure to see you, thank you for blessing my thread with your promises of my preserves... I have it in writing now, so I can hold you to it :p

ok, so my gut was telling me something wasn't right with the B.E. babies and I was right. the stems near the taproot are starting to darken, so I immediately took them out of the net pots, cut open 2 rapid rooters and gently laid the roots in... I have them back under the dome under 46w of CFLs. Ms. Confused has come around and I see 2 pretty little white roots comign out of the rapid rooter, so i think she'll pull through... I just don't know about these B.E... ALL of these were premature to go into the water, but I was concerned with letting the roots get too entwined in the peat... At any rate, they've got a fighting chance... The other Berkely in water is responding much better than the B.E. were, I saw a flurry of new root development yesterday which made me feel a LITTLE bit better. these 3 bagseed are getting mad at me because they've been ready to go 12/12 for about a week, I just don't have the funds to set up a seperate veg area right now. I took a cpl of cuts from #2 and #3 and set them up in the 3rd tub, i figure I might as well see if I can get bubble cloning down while I'm waiting on the little ones to recover/veg. I set up a semi light blocker for the little one and the clones in water, I want them to worry about roots, not leaves. PPm is around 440 and pH is 5.8... I let is swing to about 6.7 then I bring it back down with pH down. I didn't soak my hydroton before I used it (I DID rinse it a few times)... I found out you can experience decent pH swings for a cpl of weeks while it adjusts, so that explains the earlier probs... I was thinking to myself "surely I don't need to use this much pH down all the time... I need a bigger bottle" This is where I can use the help of those who have done DWC. OK, here are the pics I've been promising, but first, here's the rest of the system DIY: the lids.

I took a Craft Knife from Ho*by Lo*by (Found over by the model cars) ($6)

Then I took a Land O Lakes butter dish (this is what I germ in)

it just so happens, the botton of this dish is just the right size for a 3" net pot hole

I placed my butter dish where I wanted the hole and I traced it with a regular pen, I just bore down on it so it would leave an indention even if it didn't leave ink

Now I can be a bit OCD when it comes to certain things and stuff like this is one of them, so I really took my time cutting my holes. It's not hard to do, it can just be a bit time consuming, but I think it came out nicely

here's some random quick snaps of the soil plants (what the site would let me upload anyway) :dueling:

Hey FF, those are some bushy plants for being in such small containers of soil. What kind of light do you veg under? I know you said,(the memory:wallbash:...) and I thought i saw cfls, but that's maybe better than cfls would do.

ok... I lost a shitload of my post... man this pisses me off.

Hazy,
I'm using Jungle Growth potting soil from Lowes (0.25-0.12-0.12) with a 40% perilite mix, should have gone about 25%, because the plants at this stage, in those containers, are in need of water almost every day. I've never flowered out (completely... it was a male) in a container this small and it has me stressin because I'm constantly worried about overwatering. They are so VERY unhappy with me right now and I know it's because they want more room. As far as veg light goes, I use (3) 23w daylight cfls to germ and start them *edit* I'm now using (5) total. I let them stay under that light for about 10 days then they went under the HPS... these 3 plants are about 10-11" tall.

So I got a letter from eharmony... I wonder what I did wrong...

I swear, what's going on in this world when you can't even answer a question honestly...

Now then...I ditched the retractable light adjusters, they suck donkey balls imo... you can never get them both to adjust to the exact height. I started thinking to myself... "why move the light when you can move the plants?" so I hung my light from the hooks and I'll use whatever I can find around the house to make height adjustments. I'm open to ideas here, so feel free to pipe up ... should I crowd all of my new babies around my cfls and put these 3 into flower, at least until they show? I wouldn't think it would take too long, judging from the budsite structure... this could possibly eliminate 1 or 2... possibly all 3 of the soil plants, but it would ensure that I wasn't wasting time and effort on keepin a hardleg alive :dueling: OH! one of the B.E's in recovery has shown me some new roots :woohoo:

:badday: (possibly)

For those of you who don't know, I suffer from insomnia pretty bad, sometimes I don't sleep for 24-36 hrs and with me being currently unemployed and now out of meds for a cpl of days, it's gotten a lot worse. That being said, I fell asleep around 2pm yesterday... I woke up to a text around 10:30pm that said :yoinks:"the police are outside." :yoinks: (this is from my next door neighbor, who is a smoker as well) I immediately killed my HPS and started assessing the situation and basically, I'm fucked if they come in... I start sweating and I go to a side window and peek... sure enough, sittin there, off to the side a little bit. FUCK. I start looking around to see where I could possibly hide all of my shit... LOL... yeah right, like that's fucking possible. I get my head about me and calm myself down, go through the motions of boxing up all my smoking gear that's usually out and about in my place and I sit down in front of my computer. I wait a while... peek again... fuck. still there. I send my neighbor a text "what's he doing?" he responds "don't know, haven't seen them there in a while but they used to be there all the time." I exhale slowly. I just moved here about 2 months ago... we live off in a little suburb, down at the end... it's a turnaround, kinda dark... it's 11pm. I hear my other neighbor's car try to start, it doesn't turn over all the way... perfect, this is my excuse to come outside and see wtf this cop is doing. I come out, ask my neighbor if he needs help gettin the car started and I glance over... no cop car... I don't know what to think. I have 30 mil black plastic over my grow room window and the room itself is A/C controlled... was this pig takin a nap back in the cut? I dunno. I've switched my light schedule from 6a-12a to 8a-8p... I've got the vegging plants in a bathroom under cfls with the door closed, so I'm not worried about those per say, the HPS will be off for 24hrs then it goes on the above schedule, situation permitting. I'm not gonna be stupid, but I'm not gonna jump the gun either, they're known to sit out there, that's fine. just don't point f.l.i.r. shit at my house and eveything will be OK. I'll be home all day today, watching. If I see anything suspicious, the plants are gone and everything is getting boxed up. If I see that car again tonight, same deal. I love my bud, but I love my freedom more... it's just a fuckin shame that we have to scurry around like rats in the dark, worrying about losing everything we work so hard for, just so we can have peace from pain or a decent rest without being addicted to some narcotic. It's 5-30 in my state for cultivation, I've got 1 strike against me from back in the day and this IS a 3 strike state. Understand, I'm not seeking sympathy... this is my journal, the only one I keep, it just so happens you're able to read it.

just a quick update, all is well, car hasn't been back. The only person that knows about me doing my thing is a fellow local grower, he let me have my equipment shipped to his business and he's a stand up guy, so no worries there... it was just a dinner break for the cop, everything is OK. My HPS only runs from 8a-8p now :D I'll put some pics up when I see something pic-worthy happening... :joint:

Good to hear you're safe chillin'. :joint:

On with the show... :canabis:

right on brother, thanks for checkin in :joint:

I'm so happy to be slowly fazing out this fish emulsion... it's been great to these plants, but man... wow. the flowering area smells like puke and a fish that's been dead for about a week in a cooler... not really something I seek out aroma-wise. I DO have 2 of the berkely in soil, so I'm not quite done with it yet, but it's only a matter of time. I'll take some pics later today/tomorrow... I really can't see much of a difference myself, other than a liitle trich production

to get rid of any/all odors in/coming from garden, do this:

1 tablespoon of soilmoist granules
1 medium sized rectangular tupperware-type container
1 oz of essential oils (dollar store, or other vendor).
2 cups of water (preferably distilled)

soak 1 tablespoon of soil moist granules in 2 cups water + 1/2-1 oz desired fragrance.

takes 12-24 hrs for granules to absorb all moisture; granules will expand to 400 times original size.

they hold oil fragrance very well. place container in air flow inside of room, exhaust air flow, internal air purifier, etc.

mix granules daily. add 1/2 cup water daily. add oils depending on how strong want fragrance to be. can be very strong, depending on oil.

very effective, depending on oil selected. citrus and berry fragrances seem to mask more than musky frangrances, that tend to blend w/ odor of growing veggies.

use several of these for odor control/enhancement, both inside of room, and in common areas where human traffic persists. flowering w/ 2+k, sealed room. no odor apparent. even inside of room smells like lemons when in full bloom.

if dont want to use essential oils, have/can use ona, or generic odor neutralizer from home improvement store. gallon of 'industrial odor neutralizer' @ home improve. store is like 20 coins.

use 5-1-1 fish too, and 2-1-2 b1. just foliar sprayed 30-day-in flowers w/ 2-1-2 b1 fish, w/ teaspoon of molasses included. usually is very prominent after that spray, but is masked effectively by several soil moist containers w/ oils in them.

also, can clone in straight soil moist, or add to any soilless/soil mix; so dual use tech.

*if really want to get rid of ANY odors, get small 50-100 cfm fan, fine mesh fiberglass screen, and make cylinder w/ soil moist+oils. run inline w/ fan, scrubber style. can use oils, or ona, or cheap 'odor neutralizer'. no real need for carbon filter.

alternative odor enhancement/control

hope this helps. enjoy your garden.

Glad to hear the man is lettin you be. Hate to hear about those "near misses". You can feel the panic in your gut when you read the stories, at least I can.

Remember: Paranoia keeps you free.

Peace out.

thanks for the kind words everyone, so I checked the plants a little bit ago and I think I see nuts on all 3 of these damn soil plants... I kinda figured I'd have 1 or 2 males, but I wasn't expecting all damn 3... I'm gonna let them go a few more days just to be sure, but dammit, this sucks. I wound up ditching the 1 berkely that was giving me so many problems, both of the B.E. and the other 3 berkely are doing good though, roots are nice and white. (I'll take pics in a min)
