Help me be cool? (light cooling issue)

i have a cab grow and things are going really sad right now. my girls are getting too hot inside the cab and i really want to use my new 400w MH to veg them instead of my 4CFLs (6400 lumens). the fan i have inside is not really helping out much and i think venting is not so great.. but i leave the door open and the plants are still getting cooked even with about 2ft between the lights and the plants.

problem with my 400w system is that its not cooled in any way. just a reflector and bulb connected to a remote balast. i was wondering if i could hack my hood in a way so that i can make it run as cool as some of the air cooled lights? or should i try to do a DIY cool tube?

if you have any suggestions, please help.

thanks for your support.

Gotta get those temps down. If you can't go buy a cool tube, there is a DIY cool tube thread round here somewhere.
Without proper climate, you'll be facing an uphill battle

I second the DIY cooltube, I have used one I made a few times and it works very well for very cheap.

If your structure is completely enclosed with no holes or venting other than the door being ajar sometimes, you might want to cut a hole or two in the back (2-4", each? attach a small 'exhaust' fan to one hole; 4" dryer hose with a 4", 100-cfm axial-fan inside, or?) to facilitate some in-and-out air-flow. This way, you could close the door, too.

Get a 6" hole saw. Punch 3 holes in the cab. Two at the bottom for intake and one at the top for exhaust. Check the chart for your situation's CFM requirements and buy a fan that matches.

Great thanks for the ideas! i've actually opened up both sides now so its like a box but missing the front and back so the air can just flow through. the fan is moving the air nice but i've switched to my CFLs for now so i can just nurse the girls back to their greens. they were turning a bit yellow and curling up so imma put them under less intense light.

again thanks for the ideas!

cooltube or 6inch air cooled hoods are approx cost of 150$ from local hydro shops. think i paid like 99$ for my cooltube and 150$ for sun systems 6in air cooled hood
