DocDom 1000w Grow

Welcome All

I have a main room that measures 8'H x 8'L x 4'W which houses my current 13 plants. They are under a 1000w light right now. I plan to get another 1000w or 600w for this main room in the future. I have a fresh air intake and an exhaust fan sucking hot air out the top. Temps right now during 24/7 Veg are between 79F-82F.

It's hard to tell in the pics but there are 7 plants in 3 gallon pots and 6 plants in 2 gallon pots. The seven 3gallon pots are using LC's Mix #1. I ran out of worm castings after transplanting the first 7 and my only worm casting supplier was all out. They weren't going to have anymore in until next Wednesday which is way to long because the other 6 in 16oz solo cups were getting root bound. I decided to go buy two 2cu ft bails of ProMix today to get them transplanted. I used LC's Option 2 soil mix using the ProMix minus worm castings but added Bone Meal, Blood Meal, and Kelp Meal. This mix went into the six 2 gallon pots in front. I will watch the differences in how the plants react between the two soil mixes. So far the 7 using LC's Soil Mix #1 are looking great and loving the transplant. They were transplanted 2 days ago. The last 6 were transplanted about 30min ago.

All 13 sprouted on 5-25-09 except for the small one in the middle. They are 19 days old.

Strains:
DP WW
DP BB
Bubblicous

I had these seeds sitting around for a few years so I went with them until my new seeds arrived. I just received my Snow White and Chrystal as well as 2 free packs of Mazar-I-Sharif so they will go into my veg room I'm building but I have plenty of time because I will time them so they can move into the main room once the current ones are finished.

I will be using Blackstrap Molasses, FloraNova Grow and Bloom and Neptune's Harvest Organic Seaweed Fertilizer and Fish Fertilizer.

Thanks for stopping by:joint:

So far, so good! Try giving them 18-hours of light (rather than 24) in the vegetative stage, as they do need that 6-hours rest time for optimum growth; and be sure to water the root-zone adequately, as they look quite dry in your provided pics. If you plan on adding another lamp, you may want to look at a vented reflector/s or some kind of air-conditioning; 79-82 degrees is optimum, but anything higher would be detrimental. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips vancityj.

I watered then pushed some of the drier soil from the edges over top to fill in the holes from pouring. I didn't water the 7 in the 3 gallon pots, only the 6 transplanted today. I wasn't aware of the 18/6 schedule for veg, I have always used 24 hours light but will try that out.

The temp situation is the reason I didn't get another light right away. I'm just not sure this 1000w will cover enough area for all 13. I plan to put a 400w in the veg room. soon to get ready for the Snow White and Chrystal.

Also, add some white poly-plastic, mylar or white paint to the environment. Your ballast is located outside the room, I assume; if not, a 1KW ballast would surely heat that space up prematurely.

I have to order some mylar and get that put up. Yes, my ballast is located outside of my grow space.

shaunmulok, thanks, I can't wait!! I haven't grown in over 5 years so it's nice to be back. Just trying to iron everything out and get the rooms, soil, ferts. perfect with this batch then will be on to the new strains just received.

I use LST with my grows to maximize yields with the space I have.

Here are some pics of my last DP BB and DP WW grow under a 400w switchable using FF LW/OF mix as well as FF nutes. That was my last grow since moving back to the NE from SoCal.

The timer I had wasn't a commercial timer which I don't believe can handle switching my 1000w off and on. I plugged it in, setup the on/off times and the ballast just hummed but no light. I took the timer out of the loop and the light came on no problem. I'm running out to find a more heay duty timer this morning.

My 1000w is a Metal Halide. I acquired this ballast for free. I don't have an HPS light but plan on using the Eye Hortilux 940 watt HPS Conversion Bulb 1000w MH lamp. This states it is to be used in 1000w MH lamps.

Anyone have any experience with this bulb in MH lamps? Will it give me the results a 1000w HPS would or close?:joint:

A grounded 1500-watt timer from the hardware store ($20; plastic housing) should work fine for 1KW. As far as the sodium conversion bulbs...they work fine. I'd almost suggest buying an independent 1KW sodium ballast with a 1KW Hortilux Super HPS. The cost would be the same. Judging by the prices on a site I looked at, a 940W Eye Conversion Bulb (MH ballast) is $191US and puts out 130,000 lumens; a 1KW kit (sodium ballast, socket, etc) with a 1KW Hortilux Super HPS bulb at 145,000 lumens included, is a little bit less.

Thanks for the research and information vancityj. I picked up a Heavy Duty Outdoor Timer 15amps, 1800watt grounded. Says it's for pool pumps and security lighting and cost me $18.99. I now have my lighting at 18/6 with lights going off during peak usage time.

I also started LST today. I tied down everything a little while ago and the tops are already trying to turn back up towards the light. I am not a fan of pruning, topping, fim, etc. I love LST.

Vancityj, can you PM or post the site you were looking at to purchase a complete 1KW HPS setup? If I can find a setup for the price of the 940w conversion then I will def. buy it. Even if it's a little more money I will buy it.

EDIT:
I found a HydroFarm 1000w switchable ballast on ebay for $199.95 with free S&H. I would still have to pay $24.95 for the bulb socket and $88.00 for an EYE 1000w SuperHPS bulb. That's about $120 more than just buying the 940w conversition bulb but isn't that huge of a difference. I am debating just getting the 1000w switchable. Do you know if the bulb socket kit on my 1000w MH Sun Systems ballast would work on a 1000w HydroFarm switchable ballast?

Please let me know were you found such a great deal.

Thanks

valleyindoor.com (look under 'bulb & ballast kits'; kits include 1-Hps Ballast, 1-Hortilux Super HPS Bulb, 1-Mogul Socket, 1-Octagon Box, 1-Ballast Box, & all wire, & hardware to complete the kit. $189.46US/$217.77CAD); it's a Canadian company, so you might be out of luck if you're outside Canada...but, you should be able to get roughly the same deal elsewhere.

I just bought the following which I thought was a pretty good deal:
1000w Sun System Harvest Pro Switchable HPS MH - $165 New
EYE Hortilux 1000w SuperHPS Bulb - $89.95 New

Since it's a Sun System I can use the brand new socket assembly from my current 1000w MH. I actually have another used one sitting around here as well. I wanted to get a 400w MH for my veg room but I now have a 1000w MH sitting here that I will probably use unless I can sell it. I was going to buy the 940w EYE MH HPS conversion bulb for $190 so I only spent another $64 and got the new ballast and bulb. Not bad

Those look amazing dbfr3sh. I haven't grown the Snow White's yet but have grown the Bubblicous and I was extremely pleased. I will be taking clones and keeping Snow White in my garden for a while. My wife needs some knock out sleepy strains for her insomnia so thats why I got the Snow White.

Yesterday afternoon I gave the (7) in the 3 gallon pots some FloraNova Grow at 1tsp/gallon which was about 4-5 hours after I tied them down for the first time. I had to tighten everything up again late last night since all the main shoots turned back up towards the light like they were never tied down.

I came home today and alot of shoots had grown out and the plants filled in nice. I retied everything today. Today was also the first day on the 18/6 light cycle from 24/7 for the first 21 days. They are all looking extremely healthy.

Here are some pics taken when I got home tonight as well as some after I tied them all back down.

Enjoy:joint:
