800 years!!!!! the only thing that has advanced are science and weapons. The body has not changed and your wrong, more fighting techniques have been lost over the centuries, that only the last several decades could have ever even dreamed of. While your UFC age is sitting around watching computer animated deadliest punches, to find the best techniques, they where finding the techniques through hands on training.
UFC is a bunch of gym junkies buying into all the newest fads, back in the days there was no media bullshit there was only the right way.

Ok, I don't think I was super clear about what I meant when I made that post, here is my response to another member on that in PM

******, I think you missed my point, I'm not talking about the philosophy of MA and the eastern culture when I made my 800 year post, I'm talking purely about the physical mechanics of each form, there simply was not a large scale accessible to all venue prior to the inception of MMA, the ufc is just one little branch and not representative of the whole. Think about it, as little as 100 years ago people on different continents almost never got the chance to compare styles, now they can and have made great progress in adapting there individual styles to deal with the new and different styles that previously were almost never encountered and truly tested against one another.
That's the progress in 20 years that surpass the 800 before it when there styles were stagnant for the most part(the physical aspect)

That basically summed up what I meant

I think you would smash that 20 year old remember dude he has 23 more years of exp than you, respect..

We specifically asked for people to stop talking it about everybody is entitled to their own opinions I have several college friends who wrestle but the key to stop that style of opponent getting into a wrestling match with you is to not allow it to happen. I respect wrestling but do you think I'm going to allow a wrestler to take me down and put me in that position you got another thing coming both of my friends who wrestled in highschool (won state chamionships) another went on to wrestle in college but got kicked out because of pot. They have taught me alot about that style I respect him yes but I won't allow it to get to that point rest assured.

He was what? 42? Same age as when Colture won the title.

But yes I agree that he was past his prime, and hadn't competed for quite some time, but he still trained competing or not.
Royce in his prime would have submited or just caused matt to run out of gas and get beat, either way Matt would have lost to Royce in his prime.

bruce lee is the most respected martial artist known. He actually with his JKD basically started what we now know as mixed martial arts.. Which is not lame as someone earlier said. I believe they called it sloppy fighting. Well, for one thing in fighting there is nothing perfect or pretty about it. And lets see you fight 3-5 or 5-5 minute rounds and look friggn graceful. So to call it sloppy means uneducated about the sport. And to call it lame as a man means misunderstood and a person who is afraid to fight or get slapped in the face much less elbowed or kneed in the face.. And to me a closet caped crusader. for anybody to call mma lame makes me laff, cos i can bet dollars to douhnuts that 90% of those people have not even been in a real fight. Im not talking about gettin bitch slapped by ur girlfriend either.. I speak from total experience. Bruce lee would win a shitload of MMA fights. But the good ole fashioned wrestler that can take a punch or kick and run thru it would take lil bruce down and proceed to keep him underneath where he would punch and elbow or like in a real streetfight headbutt nice pretty lil gashes in his head, face etc... I would personally accept any challenge to fight a jeet kune do, wing chun, tae kwon do, karate, ninja turtle karate, power ranger karate, kung fu panda style or watever u train silat, krav maga, i dont care.. And i know i will prove different.. MMA is here to stay! like an old fake wrestler said to be the man u have to BEAT the man!! Now beat the man.. So as for the question in the title would bruce do well in MMA? until he got taken down. Then its OVER! Yea i could go on for awhile on this.. One more thing to think of for you armchair fighters/analisysts that actually have sex. think of how winded you are after you go a whole 38 seconds and finish, while your wife reaches over to nightstand and grabs ole trusty battery operated device and goes into the bathroom for 39 secs.. Now compare!! Oh wait u cant compare u have never been in the cage.... Im done!! ill bbl to laff at the replies to my reply.. lmfao.. point fighting lmfao!!!!!

Just wanted to add that Matt hughes wasn't the first guy to beat Royce gracie, Sakuraba beat him in 2000. Royce would've lost alot more too had he of been more active, why? because his one style (BJJ) couldn't cut it against evolved mma fighters who could kickbox, wrestle and BJJ him to a bloody pulp. Hell Matt Hughes is one dimesional by todays standards, current mma stars like GSP destroy him with the same ease the Matt destroyed Royce.

There are a quite a few JKD fighters who fight in mma these days, none of them just practice JKD alone im sure.

How would Bruce Lee fair in UFC

How would Bruce Lee fair in UFC

Just back to the hyperthetical question, are we talking here bruce Lee being able to prepare and train to fight in UFC
or Bruce Lee having to walk straight in the ring with nothing but his existing knowledge and skills!??!

this would obviously have a major bearing on the said situation !

I saw that documentary about Bruce Lee on tv.

I had no idea he was gay before that. I am not talking bisexual either.. he was way gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Bruce lee is the father of mma.. without him there wouldn't have been a karate school in every town. thing is they didnt teach you how to win a streat fight so gracie made there technique and bet that no one could beat him and thats what started the UFC

Bruce Lee was the best all round fighter of his time. Today the best fighters in the UFC which is basically the measure of well rounded fighters in a fixed setting are in my own opinion Anderson Silva who is the closest you can get to Bruce "style" wise, GSP and Machida. Those are the only guys who would stand half a chance and they still don't have such extensive knowledge of pressure points with the exception maybe of Machida.

Bruce Lee had phenomenal speed, power, balance and agility due to how he trained. The UFC fighters today are trained mainly by camps where these people are probably not ahead of their time with training like Bruce was.

In my opinion I think Bruce could of won most of the fights... Eventually he would of got beat he even said he only feared a larger version of himself e.g. Anderson Silva.

I just want to see what it feels like, then I'll know how impressive it is or isn't.
The stuff that I don't debate about him for one second is his conditioning, work ethic in training, commitment to his art, in that stuff he was second to none, it showed in merely looking at him, that level of conditioning is insane.

Did you manage to try it? How did it go?

bruce lee would win no problem. he was too fast for them to tackle him, or even hit him. His two inch punch was so powerful that it could knock at 250 lb man on his ass. This aint legend. he was the greatest martial artist that ever lived in the 20th century.

I watched a documentary on Bruce and they actually caught up with the guy who took the punch. He said he spent the next 3 months in the hospital and advised everyone to not do what he did.

He was such a fascinating person.

I hate to break it to you but Royce was never one of the great Gracie's. Matter of fact, to prove a point, Rorion Gracie chose Royce because he was the weakest in the family in terms of skill and size. Rorion Gracie was so confident in his family's fighting system he sent out his weakest soldier and he dominated.

Now the reason why he dominated was because no one in the UFC at the time knew anything about BJJ. You cannot defend what you do not understand. Hence, the Machida Era. BJJ has been fully saturated into MMA and only time will see how many other styles will become enveloped.

what someone said in earlier post about rorion sending royce out cos he was weakest gracie is true. royce was the gracie's weakest jits player and vale tudo fighter. So Rorion wanted to prove his point of Graice jiu jits being the most dominant self defense style around.. In which he did succeed in doing so.. Nogi is where all the new stuff will be coming from sick sick shit going on out there in nogi land.. peace..

In the Tao Te Ching it says something about how the strong and rigid are friends of death and the weak and supple are friends of life.

Like a tree in the wind as you say or water flowing.

Be like water!

Been off the board for a while.
Yes, I tried it with a 50lb barbell, doesn't seem like much of anything at first, but it gets hard fast, I held it for 20 secs but was starting to shake near the end, keeping your arms perfectly straight the whole time is hard, I don't think I could do it with a 75lb Barbell right now, maybe if I trained for it for a few months, but not now, I weighed in at 187lbs that day too, if bruce could do that at 130lbs bodyweight, then that is very impressive.
