Sick for 6 weeks, help!

PoopyTeaBags and I have been sick since we went to Las Vegas at the end of April. Some douch bag that sat behind PTB on the flight home was coughing all over us and of course we came home really sick. It's been almost 6 weeks and we were both getting over the nasty stuff when PTB got sick again....and now I'm getting sick again too. this cold/flu is painful....cold sweats, HORRIBLE fatigue, nausia, SEVERE sore throat, sinus pain and pressure.

I might break down and go see a doctor (I don't really do doctors)...but I don't see much of a point if this is a virus...he can't do anything for me. But, if what we have is a bacteria....I might actually take an antibiotic.

Here's my question...is there anything that I can take to get rid of this? I worked in preventative and wholistic health, so I know all about echinacea, elder berry and all the imune tricks....are there any specific antibiotics that have worked for anyone? Knowing some broad spectrum pharms may actually help me....anyone?

Another question....how about composting and being around soil and all the fun stuff in grow rooms....is this contributing to my lack of imune support? That's something I'm not talking about with a doctor at all.

Swine Flu Symptoms

According to the CDC, like seasonal flu, symptoms of swine flu infections can include:

  • fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent
  • cough
  • runny nose or stuffy nose
  • sore throat
  • body aches
  • headache
  • chills
  • fatigue or tiredness, which can be extreme
  • diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu

I know that my diet has been shit.....very unstable and busy working schedules for now that can't be avoided. I can still take a lot of steps to improve water intake and nutrients.

I used to take alpha lipoic acid too....ever since I left the health and fitness industry last year...I don't do half the things I used to as far as prevention.

PTB seems to think this is a relapse of the same bug.....I know that bacteria can do that (I relapsed with Mono for a total of 9 months)....but can viruses do that so much???

Stay well hydrated, avoid sugar. Eat a high protein diet.

Unless your inhaling dust/soil/fertilizer it wont really have an effect on your immune system.

If anything its good for your hands and the bennificial bacteria if you make teas might actually be good for your skin or something.

But if your dealing with lots of turning dry soils and fertilizers, dealing with chemical fertilizers dumping out the rez all the time, burning sulphur ect. it might have an effect on your health.

I know smoking weed isn't good right now....nausia has been getting me bad, I keep it to a minimum lately.

I had a feeling today that we might need to go to a doctor....never do, but I'm worried about PTB...he's really sick to the point where he can't stand up. His fever is bad too.

I know that when it's time to go, I go to a doctor....I may hesitate a lot, but PTB won't. I have this thing when he won't listen to me and I know I'm right (just give me this one)...I have to call his Mom and ask her to urge him to do it. Sometimes he won't listen to me...but he always listens to her.

Looks like he's gonna have to do this one for me....we can't be sick like this.

Thank you everyone that responded....we were in Nevada and this seems more like flu than a bacterial cold. My symtoms started again yesterday and while I have been sitting here for the last hour, I know it's progressing into a full blown thing again.

i go through it every year.

i had the flu and bronchitis at the same time, talk about a major fucking pain in the ass.

i would go to ensure it's not something they can treat. if it is, they'll give you a Z-pack or whatever it requires, otherwise...you may have to wait it out. 6 weeks though sounds like a bacterial infection and/or an advanced stage of the flu or something.

All I can do is wake him up and ask him if he will....I'm getting sicker by the second, but I would drive us, no problem.

He kicked all of his blankets off, so I do think his fever came down....but here goes...

Like someone else said no. Only thing I could think is if you're in a living situation where there's lots of mold present as that can cause some serious long term immune issues.

Yes antiobiotics are for bacterial issues and not viral stuff. Echinacea is not all that some believe it is IMO. Elderberry is more for viral issues.

Cool you have some background in all this. I have like 20 years experience in the health supplement industry and will tell you the best immune product I've seen come out, and probably one of the better health products in general I've ever seen, is called Immune Extra. It takes about 2 weeks for you to start to notice anything though cause of how it works.

You can go to www.immuneextra.com for info and there's some cool info available in their scientific summary available here...
http://www.immunextra.com/Upload/Scientific_summary(1).pdf

I have access to more info than what's available on the website and will only say TRY IT! Helps with allergies such as dog/cat/pollen also! Put one friend on it who had been on a 6 month chemotherapy program to wipe out Hep C cause his immune system was all fucked up after the treatment regimin. He had these warts that showed up fairly recently and after a few weeks on IE they disappeared. Has worked to eliminate MRSA (Methycillin Resistant Staphyloccocus Aureus in at least two different individuals...one used topically in a cream and the other orally), used it and got rid of some low grade 'bug' for me that was hanging on for a few weeks and wouldn't go away.

I will say that I have noticed an increase of viral/bacterial (whatever they are) infections that appear to go away but come back a week or so later and just seem to hang on over the last few years.

I DO NOT work for the Immune Extra people or sell their products if you're wondering...

NOYB....I would be quicker to take elderberry. Sambucol is what I've used before. Mold is always a possibility....especially with basements like mine...full of dirt, compost and water.

Thanks for the tip on the Immune Extra....I'm glad someone from the industry was reading this. With my background...well, you know it's a lifestyle. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure:)

COONHUNTER.... I just woke him up, his temperature is good and he agreed to go to the hospital tomorrow. He won't tonight...but at least the man agreed to go this time! I hate seeing him sick.... he's my baby:(

Thank you guys...this sucks ass.

Yeah the Sambucol is better for knocking viral infections out but IME better at the early stage when you first notice it and not after it has progressed. Essential oils might be better for viral infections. Either way your immune system is VERY compromised at this point so once you and PTB get through this focus on things to help rebuild. Stay away from mushrooms like maitake, etc. cause the effect they have is stimulatory and not effective really. I know there's some good studies out there but wouldn't spend my $ there. Better than echinacea in some ways but still not great for long term use. Even something like Tamiflu, from what I understand, is best used at the early stages of an infection.

With that basement you guys should look at a good dehumidifier. I had one friend that lived in the SF Bay area in an apartment complex and she had some serious mold issues. A mold 'expert' came in and tested her place and sure enough pretty bad. When she went for tests and they did an MRI(?) showed up as cancer...lol. But seriously mold can be a much more serious issue than people think...VERY serious. Her health was screwed up for years.

I know mold is scary....I've contemplating having an apartment I stayed at tested before. Mold testing would be hard with our basement....uh, you know.

I was just thinking today about the fact that I stopped taking coromega...wtf is wrong with me? A year ago I wouldn't go a day without alpha lipoic acid and fish oil...I partly blame myself....the rest is on the guy from the flight...planes suck.

I am an engineer, not a health professional, so take this with a grain of salt and a shot.

It could be the same flu, as our body’s immune system identifies a virus by the proteins in its outer coat. A virus can mutate that outer shell protein into 32 different identities, so it may have morphed on you.

I'm thinking that seeing a professional at this point is a good idea. Being down with the flu also weakens our immune system and makes us vulnerable to other stuff.

I avoid doctors and hospitals too, because that is where the really sick people hang out and my body has mostly taken care of itself the first six and heavy change decades. There are times however that I literally would not be alive today if I hadn’t benefited from the medical profession’s expertise.

Sometimes it takes a good woman to get a manly type to see things in perspective, regardless of how much we drag our feet. You go girl, ya’ll have been sick a long time and the longer your immune system is at low ebb, the more complications you are vulnerable to.
