Toxic levels listed

Here is a list of common chocolates and how much it takes to hurt a dog. It takes POUNDS of common chocolate to harm a dog....and large amounts is rare as most dogs cannot get to unlimited amounts of candy:

  • White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog.
  • Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.
  • Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog.
  • Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog.
So very small dogs have to eat large amounts to become sick....not a great worry in my book as how often can dogs get ahold of massive amounts of candy? like I said, a bite now and then is ahrmless for most dogs....large amounts of course should not be allowed.

lol i cant believe people where saying this is animal abuse, thats just hilarious to me. MANY many of my friends' dogs love getting stoned with us, and some dont. Not like we force them to do it lol if they like it they get smoked blown in their face and thats it no where near what i'd call abuse.

Should I spank my cat for eating my fan leaves? Jeezus people....there's a difference between abuse and allowing something that's not harmful. I don't hand my cats anything...but if they take it off a plant and eat it...well, shit it happened. Everybody knows the difference between right and wrong here....you all know when an animal is being hurt. Smoking out kittens or dogs in a box is inhumane and Randude....I would knock someone's teeth out for it, regardless of what they might do. I take the protective Mother in me and give it to animals instead of kids.

This ones headed for the bin bro, no talk of getting critters high here.......
I agree, lame topic if dealing with blowing smoke on animals, bad image for anyone trying to legitimize the herb.
But yeah, in terms of eating a plant, cats and dogs love the leaves to chew on..

So umm if it was a 5 year old kid instead of a dog would that still not be abuse in your book??

Just because it's an animal doesn't make it acceptable in my world and yes i know i'm a bit fanatical about things like this but i like to give my pets the cleanest healthiest life i can and eating or smoking weed ain't part of it.

From the book "caring for your dog" by DR bruce fogle.

Marijuana:
Symptoms: Loss of condition,fear,agitation,biting,dilated pupils.
Treatment:Avoid sensory stimulation
Give sedative as recommended by your vet.

That says a lot as to why not to give a pup weed but sure I'm sure all you guys are trained veterinarians and know better huh?

My cat was abusing himself in the grow room again just a minute ago.

Sometimes I bring him in fresh catnip, bluegrass and dandelion greens to eat... If he doesn't eat them... :kitty::whip:

p.s. I heard Siegfried & Roy's cat is on Medical Marijuana to keep him from eating more people.

She acts like she doesn't like the marijuana, but I'm getting suspicious as every time I see her she looks more and more ripped.

I have 4 cats.

When we used to smoke, only one of them would stick around, the rest would bolt out of the room once the clouds got thick. She would sit on our laps and be all in our faces smelling the smoke.

Now we strictly vape and 3 out of 4 cats love it (totally voluntary). Our male cat LOVES leaves. I'll come in with some trim and he goes WILD.

One time we were vaping and he came up and took a big whiff of our exhaled cloud. He followed the iInhale around the room, takin hits as people exhaled. eventually he had enough and passed out on my lap.

here's a pic.

I agree. They are too smart to eat anything that is gonna make cats sick.

My cat eats about 4 or 5 fans leaves daily... He's 15... I think MJ makes cats live longer.

And, if a pet, say a cat, wants to snort a hit off the end of a burning joint, I'll hold it still for him so he don't get burned... strictly voluntary on his part. Right now he's lying on my foot asleep...

Give pets a chance at better living through marihuana...

Can we stop making this argument? It's dumb. A 5 year old dog is a fully-developed adult.

Pets are not human children. Period.

No whats stupid is to assume that a mature dog or puppy for that matter knows that what it eats is always going to be good for it.

Why do you think dogs eat chocolate or rat poison chew through electrical cables..what do you think the dog will only eat things that are good for it???

No, but I can observe the reaction of the animal after he tries it. If he enjoys the experience and suffers no ill effects, who the hell am I to tell him he can't do it again?

The government thinks marijuana is dangerous (in spite of ample evidence to the contrary) and therefore tells you and I that we cannot do it. When we try to tell them we enjoy it, they tell us we are making poor choices and hurting ourselves... and that we should thank them for protecting us.

You're advocating an identical policy toward pets, and it is every bit as wrong as prohibition is for humans. If any of you self-proclaimed 'animal lovers' would extend the same courtesy to them as you wish to be extended to yourselves, I might take you seriously.

In the meantime, my dog and I are gonna get high.

Oh come on now there is a distinct difference between a carin pet owner and a government that really does not have our best interests at heart we both know that.

Comparing the 2 is sheer madness that only serves to weaken your arguement.
If this were not true then a rapist would get a longer sentance than a grower like you and me....enough said

I'd bet that every well-intentioned MJ prohibitionist uses some form of the "protecting the ignorant from the harm they would do themselves" argument.

I bet they really think they have the peoples' best interest at heart, too.

Look, I don't really believe any of you don't love your animals. Excuse my rhetoric. But on my own dog's behalf, I have to call all of you out on this knee-jerk reaction to pets and cannabis. It's a little bit troublesome to watch the foundation-concepts of human MJ prohibition laid out and defended on a cannabis forum. That's all.

:smoke: ... *pass*
