there were alot of good n.e bands back in the day. i remember having a rehersal space and having Michale Bolton right next door when he was sorta a metal head. we partied and jammed out a few times. he left the whole scene high and dry. and gave no love back.

Zakk was never in Badlands, it was Jake E. Lee who was in Badlands.

As far as my favourite Ozzy guitarist, it has to be Randy Rhoads. One of the greatest metal guitarists of all time and his career was so short. He completely redefined metal guitar with his classical approach. He started the whole neo-classical sound. Guys like Yngwie and Michael Romeo claim him as their biggest influence in developing that style of playing. Zakk has nothing on him and he'll be the first to tell you that.

Cool story actually. Zakk's bullseye signature guitar design originated from when he first started playing with Ozzy and the crowd would throw things at him when he was onstage because he copied Randy so bad (same look, same guitar) so he decided he'd might as well put a bullseye on there.

I used to be a big fan of Zakk when he first started with Ozzy in '88 and his first project, Pride & Glory, was fuckin' awesome, along with his solo album (Book of Shadows) but it was a steady decline after that. Not only did he have tasteful playing back then but his voice was incredible too. Both have suffered. Don't get me wrong, Zakk is a beast on the fiddle and I'm a fan, but it's hard to deny that he could have been so much more.

First off, you mean Vinnie Moore right? The guy who didn't debut until four years after Randy was already dead? The same guy who lists Randy as his main influence?

There were definitely guys like Howe and many others who brought the classical influence to rock and hard rock music but I said that Randy brought it to metal and that's what we're talking here. He did something that had never been done before and some of the greatest guitarists attest to that.

His influence can't be underestimated. Despite his young age (he died 3 months after turning 25) he's been quoted as being the main influence of guys like Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Michael Angelo Batio, Vinnie Moore, Chris Impelletteri, Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine, and Yngwie Malmsteen in persuing his style and ultimately pushing the envelope and becoming some of the greatest guitarists at incorporating classical influence into metal guitar. Not to mention he's been praised by guys like Wylde, Alex Skolnick, George Lynch, Dimebag, Buckethead, Marty Friedman, and even Frank Zappa as being one of their main influences. Are you gonna tell me that all those guys are wrong?

That's huge. You factor in that he only did two albums in his early 20's and had that much of an effect on metal music and I don't see how you can consider him over-rated. Imagine if he hadn't died and had a full career. Even with such a short career he's unquestionably one of the greatest and most important guitarists in the metal scene. Whether you like him or not, that's fine, but his influence can't be denied.

Yes, he also did his thing with Quiet Riot but most people don't even know of that music as it was only released overseas. Nobody on this side of the ocean knew who he was until he got hooked up with Ozzy.

I'm not lookin' to fight!! haha. You stated your opinion, I stated mine.

Sorry though man, I didn't mean to come off that way, I guess I came on too strong. I'm pretty passionate about metal and guitar and sometimes I can get into it with people without realizing it. :dueling:There's nothing I love talking about more than guitar and metal so I usually go on about it a little (or alot) longer than I need to. This isn't the first time someone though I was trying to start a fight :

Sorry again man, I'm gonna let this great thread flow and just read along for awhile before I post again.

It's funny how you reach a certain age and stop listening to newer acts.
I can't or never heard some bands like these new ones - Slipknot, etc.

Some I do like - System of a down for example...

But here's a list of some popular ones, I wouldn't say Motley Crude is even close to metal, that's GLAM ROCK -

I'd list Suicidal, but to me that's punk/hardcore/skate rock Lol
I used to love Anthrax.
