Microveg chamber, 14 watts led

Hi

This is my recently "built" seedling and cuttings chamber. It's about 40x60x40cm or roughly two cubic feet in size. Resides on the lower shelf of a drawer with glass door (some kind of stereo rack thing). Walls and door and floor covered with white plastic reflecting the ligh back. The door stays lightly open at all times and there's a little hole in the bottom of the back wall working as a kind of passive air exchange. The lights is 14 watts of red and blue leds mixed. It's even put to 18/6 :D as I now just want to keep small plants alive and growing slowly but surely. In time topping and tieing might come handy as there isn't too much height in there. Maybe some bonsai mothers too.

Far back from left to right: dj short grape krush, grenadella

In the middle: papaya, bubblegums(3) and ghs trainwreck

In the front: nebula, chemdog d diesel and another wreck

i was wondering how much growth happens with 14watts of LED. with dat low wattage lighting does the plant grow slowly but surely? might be perfect for me.

also how much does 14watts of LED cost? a DIY led array or somethin?

Hi

It's a panel I bought from the net, cost about 50 bucks. It runs cooler than cfls (or so it seems to me) so it can be nicely squeezed into small spaces. Now this really isn't like full veg chamber. I wouldn't do perpetual harvests using this as a veg chamber exclusively. But it seems to do it's thing. Cuttings seems to like it. The light could also be a lot closer or I could raise the plants closer. Gonna make some adjustments to it. Gonna update this on maybe weekly basis for some time so you guys can get some kind of idea of what use it has.

Nice one. And as you mentioned, yes it looks great for cuttings. Is the light output equal to 14 watts of CFL?

Hi

I'd estimate it to be at least little bit better than a cfl of same power. The spread is also bit better.

Sorry

Sorry

Had those desktop lights hanging around so put one them also there. So no more pure led and whopping wattage of 25 combined (added 11w warm white pl tube that was lying unused).

But as the space is quite small and i have no plans to build active cooling and the cfl raises temps somewhat in there. So I've ordered couple of white replacement led bulbs with same socket for the desktop light. That will drop the total wattage to 18 as they are 4 w a piece. Runs cooler.

The 14 w panel itself was good for cuttings and seedlings too. But I got tempted to see what additional light will do.

Something like month from seed/rooting for the oldest ones..So it's slow, but keeps them alive and cuts root with good ratio so it's enough for them. Don't really need it as full veg light as I don't do perpetual now and veg with ufo. The panel has couple of hundred of those really small leds so same wattage with something else might be totally different. I also topped some of them so they look smaller than they could be freely grown.

you did all that with 90w of led ?? that looks pretty good going.
got any more info on the light? looks small and compact for 90w.. i would have expected it to be bigger, unless its using some kind of super bright led's ??

Thanks guys. The lamp contains 1 watt leds, not really sure are they truly one watt as I don't have the tools to measure it. Many have said that these things really only draw something like 75 watts instead of 90 for light and the rest goes to the electronics driving it and the fans inside it and so on.

Yep

Yep

Little plants arranged in a different way so everyone could get hold of both sources.

Unsexed and topped mini-grape krush.

Best use for the panel in itself could be keeping couple of bonsai-mums I think.

Took the other light out again, waiting for my white leds to arrive. Not that I really need them, but wanted try out some conversion bulbs. I might even use them for desktop lightning:). Oh yeah and the nebula died of mystical reasons.

But here's some bubblegum roots:

Hi Mr.Jones

They're still budding. I'll post some results regarding yield in maybe couple of weeks or so.

Thanks Mr.Jones

Updated the thread on diary-section, but might as well put it here:

Others chopped, this one standing (ghs twreck). After it's down, the microcab ones will go under the ufo and get their own thread as second led run.

Hi

3 Bubblegums were transplanted to soil today. Now the microcab has whopping 1,5 watts for each plant in there(panel being 14 watts and 9 small plants).
