Awesome house warming gift mate! Family acreage on Iron Mountain always gave up heaps of prime morels and puffballs.

Congrats on both accounts btw.

Morels are going for about $30 / pound around here this season, sold out of people's houses. Someone should buy all the local shrooms and ship them to wherever Ocean99 is...

I thought I was going to see a photo of a ten foot female plant from the title.

Me too !

Still a great find, you gonna have some pretty yummy sprintimes from now on ! I remember when I was a kid I was in a school which was in the middle of the forest. In April-May, we used to go into the woods to look for morels, then sold'em to nearby villagers. Biggest ones were size of an adult fist!

Bon Appétit !

Irie !

I have done outdoor spawn inoculation of morel a number of times, in many different settings, over the last 15-18 years...all with ZERO success.

One definite factor in them coming up on my lawn and not my neighbors is that my house has been unoccupied since November, and thus nothing has been mowed at alll, making for ground cover and pockets of good low shade.

I collect the spores (just keep the rinse water you wash them in), germinate parts of my garden that resemble where I found the first morels. This is called spore mass inoculation, and while it is very hit and miss as far as success goes, it is free every time you find good mushrooms.

If I may suggest, coming from the culinary world, never wash your mushrooms.

Mushrooms are like sponges and will soak up water, which is not what you want when cooking.

Use a brush and brush them off - - but boy, did you score - - those with a big piece of red meat in a nice barolo sauce...fuck, I'd be in heaven!

Hey Genki

You've really lucked out big time. People come from all over to my area to pick Morels in season. I just returned from a golf trip to the Traverse Bay area in Michigan. On the way back home through the UP, I saw a few stands and the occaisional truck on the side of the road selling Morels. Must be Morel season 'round here.

Shameless thread jack; who sends spores to cali? I wanna farm me some doomers:abduct:

I really don't understand why more don't send to cali.... It's illegal to ship seeds anywhere in the US and that shit goes down 24/7....

WORD> ive spent the last 6 months in vain trying to find an out of town friend who would ship me some spore syringes. i managed to get a few packages before they cracked down and made it illegal in like 2003, but after those few grows i havent been able to restart this!!

i have a few ounces of shrooms on me but i dont know where they came from, i like picking shrooms off my OWN harvest!

i've never done it myself but i got to watch the progress of my buddy's myco experiments, that shit looks like so much fun. so simple, just put the ingredients in the right place, keep shit clean and watch your delicious shrooms rise.

those were undoubtedly the dankest doomers ive ever had too, somethin about locally cultivated drugs just gets me off in a special way...

That is what I like about Americans and Canadians...they can find their own mushrooms. If you were French, you would have to train a pig to do that for you!

Well pops,

You can use pigs for a lot of things. I don't think the French use them to find mushrooms, though. They don't even use them to find truffles. Dogs are much better (disciplined) for it.

French males also use dogs to attract females. It's well known that women can't resist cute puppies, so having one on a leash will increase your chances of meeting and starting up a conversation with desirables of the opposite sex in the street.

I hear Americans use pickup trucks for that...

plus when you grow them yourself you have the pleasure of knowing your not eating cow dung! most indoor goomies are grown with brown rice flour, some people use horse manure but its mixed with compost and never touches the actual shroom.

i just hate eating cow patch shrooms because i am a germaphobe and i dont like knowing theres poop on my mushrooms.

There was this one cow field around here where we used to find shrooms on patches of shit all the time, but they were never right. They either looked all stepped on an nasty or not like they were psychedelic. A buddy of mine ate a few one time and he got really fucking sick so that's when he decided to start growin em.
