Not a setup 'question' per se, but..

so, those of you who grow know it's not always possible to live alone, in your own home, and have 0 people who know that you grow.

now, i don't live alone...i have room mates. room mates RARELY enter my room, which is on the 3rd floor (remodeled attic area)... anyway, in the OFF chance that a room mate wanders into my room (which is locked 24/7 unless i'm there)... i need some excuses.

i'll have a homebox L, with a CAN fan/filter running.

the ONLY excuse i can come up with, is "air purifier" if they happen to ask what it is, what the noise is, etc. of course i could say i'm growing a legal plant, such as salvia, or something like that, but of course that will spike curiosity and they will want to see.

if that happens, in your own opinion, what would you say if someone asked what's in it/whats that noise? (please, no 'live by yourself' posts.)

If it looks and sounds like something, it's more likely to be passed by. If it looks like one thing but sounds like another... curiosity will strike.

besides, if you're in an attic, don't you have a pretty good excuse to have a noisy ass fan running all the time?

People should never enter your room anyway. If you have housemates/apt roommates, lock your door all the time. If someone comes to your door to talk to you, it should be locked/they should know not to walk right in. you should come to the door and talk to them at the door or step outside. Who cares if its sketchy. better sketchy than them knowing for sure whats up.

If you're not confident in your ability to secure your room, don't grow there.

Good ideas... but being the Homebox is pre-built and it's almost 7ft tall...tough to disguise... the only thing i can think of is hide it from plain view in general. i can lie/disguise/make up excuses about noise, but if someone is actually IN the room, they WILL see it...just trying to think of something i can say to someone..when they say "What's that?" i say "Air purifier" or something like that. But then their response is, why is it that big? Why does it have a zipper on that front? lol

My REAL concern is with women... i have girls here all the time, and my bed will be RIGHT next to it...of course, their attention will be elsewhere (if you know what i mean) but what the question pops up - i just want a quick elaborate excuse. I'm thinking of saying it's an air exchange, purifier and ozone generator for my allergies. Of course the average person will be like "Oh thats crazy" and think nothing of it. I was just seeing if someone had a random ingenious idea

I think a greater concern would be smell rather than noise bro....


Plenty of good reasons stated as to just why you need the fan/purifier/fridge etc......BUT if they get a whiff, there is no denying that.

youre taking a huge personal risk and possibly blackmail for something that isnt too important to your life

you can make a false wall if possible and downsize your room.

They'll absolutely buy air purifier if they can see it working. My box is as obvious as can be, both visually and audibly. You can't miss it. However, because it looks and sounds like an old freezer, people assume it is.

People will assume the homebox is a homebox and that you're doing what every one does with a homebox which is to grow weed. Lose the homebox or lock out all visitors.

I'm in the same position as you, I'm going to be living with 4 other people but my grow will be completely private and in my space only, NO one will know about it or see it.

My advice to you is maybe you can relocate it somewhere else or just get a big sheet and throw it over it or disguise it with a fake wall in front of it or something if you must grow. If you can help it then don't have anyone over..

i appreciate the concern guys, but even as a worse case if they find it, the most they'll do is get angry. my room mates are family, my rents moved out and me and my sisters pay rent to them. they are nebnoses though. but if i had ANY doubt in my head about the authorities, i wouldn't even consider it. the hardest drug they all do is caffeine. i blaze all day and the smell emanates through the house daily also

growing on the other hand, they may get upset at that - but they would never turn it into the feds, i know that for a fact. on a monthly basis, maybe 1-2 visitors in my room, and at that time it's normally night time and i could probably toss a sheet or something over it, or just say its a ventilation system.


so i pretty much am taking the general consensus is, if i do grow, attempt to disguise it as ventilation system or a closet, etc.

not to mention i wouldn't room with someone outside my family, and if i did, i would know them like the back of my hand.

I wouldn't grow in a personal living space without talking to the owner or if my name is nowhere on the lease. If you have no way of finding an affordable place on your own, why risk losing a roof over your head? Family or not, You don't know exactly how they will react about growing. /Shrug some people probably get away with it, but I wouldn't risk it.

Hide in plain sight . It is a clothing ionizer in early stages of development , what it does is ionizes clothing to rid them of germs , smells and kills 99.9% of bacteria . Now since you saw it , I need you to sign a non disclosure form so you cant steal my idea . Ya , it will cut down on laundry and help the environment . Going green and all that . Then ask them if they would like to invest . Just keep talking about it , they will change the subject .

I'm not saying if you rent a house by yourself to ask the owner/landlord for permission to grow, that is plain stupid. If you rent a house you would be on the lease and what you do there you keep to yourself. Sorry if you think my input is bad advice dude, but I definately would not grow in another familiy members house / apartment without them knowing about it. That is just plain bad advice IMO.


Edit: KMK0420 - You are more worried about the noise of the fan rather then having a tent set up in your room? I don't know how I would begin explain the sound of a fan emitting from a large out of place tent in my bedroom. Tent's are great but they need to be hidden well IMO. If you want stealth it's goin to have to be a cabinet and with proper insulation you can even dampen the sound quite a bit. Freezer's are cool to grow in, but you'll have to explain why you have a freezer on the 3rd floor too =P. Anyway good luck.
