much props to all you dyi guys, the root mass on most of the bucket grows

Please do yourself a monster favor and forget the Hydrofarm systems as they blow (was my first and last "complete system" and it taught me DIY is where it is at!). Do some research and you'll find a couple but they are easy to build. Hit me up if you need help.

What part of DIY are you not? You'll have to assemble a pre-fab yourself. How big is your grow? Maybe all you need is one big ol' tub? All you need to add is a few airstones.

I agree with freezer boy. I made my first one out of a 18 gal tub. popped 6 4.5 inch holes in the top and a drain in the bottom. Then added some airstones. All told I have about 35 bucks in it and about a hours time. The longest part was at Menards looking at all the different fittings and trying to come up with something different on the fly. As far as recirculating put a pump in the bottom to pump it back out to the top or if you have a seperate res then from the res to your tubs.

I included this whole quote because there are separate sections I agree with and disagree with.

Here are the totes you want to use:
http://www.bizrate.com/smallstorage..._keyword--BRUTE+rubbermaid+tote__sort--5.html

These totes will not buckle at the sides and require additional strapping. I've built DWC out of regular rubbermaid tubs and often the weight of the water makes the sides buckle. Sometimes this takes a cycle or two.
Additionally, these totes come in white and are thick enough to block out light from the water.
You will have to cut or drill holes in the top. I recommend using a 2"~3" hole bit and going slowly, from an angle. Then buy the appropriate sized mesh bottom pots/cups. 4.5 inch holes are overkill, you only need the mesh pot to fit your clone cube and maybe some hydroton or other inert media as a filler.

If you want to multiple totes all together, recirculating, I would lift them in some way so that gravity drains them into a catch basin and your pump feeds this runoff back into the totes from the top through the mesh pots.

Good luck and forget about premade systems. They blow donkeys, still require setup, and are waaaaaay tooo expensive.:yeahthats like $774.95 for the cheapest system!!!

Thank you for the recommendation! This is exactly the type of tote that I have been looking for.

you might wanna try homemade diy before spending the cash on a manufactured tote. i saw something like this in the magazine for about $69 (no air pump) and i was able to make something very similar for less than $20 (air pump included).

Nice glad to know I wasn't the only one who found those at Lowes! Great buy too and just as strong as Botanicare trays. $20 I think is what they cost.
