Once when I was travelling a lot for work, I was flown out to New York City. On Sunday before the week of training, I took a subway WAY the fuck out to go see a race track. The track was closed DUH! So, I rode back. On the way, I stopped and got out at a random station, and decided to see what street level looked like. MY GOD!!! It looked like a war zone. High rises, shit all in the street, old cars, I was like "Holy Fuck, get the fuck outta here now!" So, I hightailed it back down to the subway station, and rode it back to mid-town to my nice posh hotel.

LoL, sounds like Philly...everytime I go there I'm like WTF??

Skarecrow- The outskirts of Lancaster (the county) is where all the tourist go...The city has hundreds of city blocks that are 96% P.R., 3% Black and 1% White (in the wrong place at the wrong time) Latin Kings and the Pagans run rampid there.
Here is just Bloods and MS-13...no biggie

I second Bakersfield CA. We had to live there for like 5 months as a kid when my dads job was moving him around all over the place. Worst fucking place I've ever been, totally miserable. Never been back, but the whole town basically migrates to the beaches in the summer so I guess I'll never totally be rid of all the redneck bros that dominate kern county.

the side of berlin that used to be classed as east berlin, now just berlin. It was basically a building site when I was there, and a number of the walls still had very hefty bullet holes in them.

Well, you can almost always say places like Africa will be the most down-trodden and poor...

But, in the US, some shitty places i've been (at least in my state):

The Hill District

poor, crime-laden, drug-laden (coke, crack) and full of "gangsters". almost 80-90% african american

white people with money NEVER go to the hill...i've seen carjackings take place in seconds with the average joe just driving through, as it's intersects major parts of the city
