Light Bleaching and Other Problem - Help

Hey all,

I've encountered a problem about 5 weeks (possibly 6 ??) or so into bloom and I'm unsure what it is.

1st off I have 5400w air-cooled over these ladies and think I've been experiencing some light bleaching / intesity issues. or perhaps I'm not feeding strong enough to keep up with their hunger? I do have some tops which are straight white so I have moved the light up higher - but are these leaf issues the same problem? They are not effected like this away in the corners and edges of the room.

Next problem has me clueless as there is only 1 plant out of 24 which looks like the below pic. Moving quickly up the plant.

I have no idea what is causing this and why its only effecting one plant in the middle of the garden, but thank god.

Overall ..besides the light bleaching issue top 2 pics the garden looks OK, but the overall color of the plants have become more and more yellow (or lighter green) Colas themselves look OK, but the leaves jutting out of them are a light yellow..like really light. (like they should look right before chop)

I've been feeding lucas (micro/bloom) from the get go with no res changes. pH moves between 5.5-6.1. EC has been maintained 1.6-1.8 throughout the entire grow.. havnt added back lately and it currently sits at 1.4EC / 5.9 pH.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

what strain?
i had some bad bleaching last run as well, was told it might be cal mag whore of a plant
was chem 91
what hoods you run? i have yield master 2's
in the end it wasnt the biggest deal, didnt seem to effect buds. I had one plant out of 63 look a bit like your sick one.... weird
i think i either flushed it well or fed it a bit of N, cant remember, but again it was a leaf thing and I just sweated it hoping it stayed outta bud. And it did
I know that dont help much, sorry. Lol
But maybe youll get a handle on it
I did get it to lessen raising my lights, but wtf they were so far away, over 36 inches. that couldnt have been it
my plants at the corners and edges of light reach were perfectly green. I had brand new first run horti hps 1000's

yea does hps lighting turn the leaf color a lighter green? i vegged my plants under t5s and they were nice dark green and once they started growing under the hps they look lighter, is this because of the kevlin spectrum differnce or the wavelengths? this is my first time under an hps so im not sure whats normal.

And if you aren't growing in DWC you shouldn't even be using Lucas.
thats a funny statment considering lucas himself uses ebb and flow

strain is mostly super skunk (clone gifted from friend)
other strains are being effected..

hoods are daystar acs - I'm starting to think this hood throws a lot of concentrated light and may have some nasty hot spots. May have to try a grow with them up way higher.

I have one tied way back from the light..and its not effected.

Think I may change the res..tomorrow..ah friday..maybe not. The weekends is all I got..

Going to try to get some lights off pics - tomorrow as I'm going to bed.

Well the first thing you should do is dump the fucking rez and make a new batch. And if you aren't growing in DWC you shouldn't even be using Lucas.

I agree that it's always best to change out the reservoir whenever a hydro grower sees nute defs and/or tox's. That's the golden rule imho. :joint:

I am also very much against trying to maintain chem hydro res with add backs only and not changing it out. Such a practice is only asking for troubles from running badly damaged res solution. It's almost impossible to run an add back system without ending up with a seriously damaged nute solution with several elements being locked out along with several elements running at toxic levels.

ps...I'd also advise running a 5.1 to 5.9 pH range in hydro with any gh flora series nute mix. Target initial pH of 5.2.

but :yoinks: I totally disagree with your comment re dwc and lucas.
Lucas himself promoted this mix for ebb & flow and all other hydro applications.

Lucas promoted it? Big deal. Lucas didn't come up with the 'lucas formula' he's just the guy who turned everybody on to it, which is really unfortunate because it was never meant for ebb&flow or anything other than DWC. The PPMs are much lower than the recipe on the bottle and produce less yield in other non-constant feed hydro setups.

But there are hundreds of people who swear by lucas and yet have never tried anything else. It's a shame really.

lets not get into the whole lucas vs everything else debate and clog up my thread here. I like lucas's ideas - not just pH's formula.

I'm looking for help here not debate. I will be changing my res and will try to get some non HID shots in here for better review. I use GIMP in Linux and cant figure it out like photoshop.

thanks all,

peace

Alright man, good luck. I can promise you that in a few years you'll understand and think, "Damn, I should have listened."

fwiw japanfreaker, geez man i know it's ph imbalances pH'ormula heh heh, wasn't born yesterday.
With any gh flora mix, it's all about not damaging the solution with bad add back & mixing techniques, running the right ph and reading the plants regarding solution strengths. In that regard the lucas (p.h.i.'s arrgh) ratio works well for the masses. I myself still like the 123 for the most part, but even that can be ph'ucked up too in maintenance/mixing.

yea I'm in the same linux boat, using gimp takes some figuring out although they say it's just a powerful as photoshop. You might be better off to just reshoot some pics with flash at lights off or just before they come back on.

looking forward to seeing either.

I'll definately be giving the new stuff a try - stacked up against lucas..like dm gold or humboldt master a/b.

here are some new shots with lights out...dont look to bad - perhaps I'm just nearing the end and experiencing normal yellow as N is no longer needed.

I seems like its effected most in the middle of the garden under the lights..everything looks really green around the edges of the garden.

Is this yellowing normal? or am I experiencing some type of deficiency or lockout?

Looks mostly like underfeeding (low N). Bump it up a little next run. I would still check runoff ppm to see if it is in fact lockout, but for some reason i doubt it. If it is lack of nutes, make sure you SLOWLY up the nutrient concentration over the next few weeks if you choose to keep feeding at this point.

The plants in the middle of the garden are getting the most light which is why they're looking more hungry than the better looking ones around the edges of your garden. Reason being that the more intense light puts more photosynthesis demands on the plants, requiring more or stronger nutrition.

How close to the end, as you mentioned plays a role too of course.
If you've already changed out the res and are now running within the suggested 5.1 to 5.9 pH range, then you should be seeing improvements in the buds where it counts.

:yeahthats This is a very common problem. You just have to dial in your strain better. You need to find the point of feeding where the plants directly underneath the light are getting JUST ENOUGH nutrients, and the plants at the edges are not getting too much.

Never seen a plant turn yellow naturally..... Ive seen them turn yellow when flushed or when experiencing nutrient deficiencies, toxicisities, or lockouts. Island sweet skunk is a pretty common strain, can u post a link as to where i can hear other people claim the same thing you do about this strain?
