NEW LED GROW

LEDs are awesome I had a flashlight with LEDS turned on hanging in my basement for more than a week and I forgot about it. When I returned the sucker was still lighting and it was only running on 4 AAA batteries...gonna be so cool when they get those grow lights powered up and the price powered down...pulling up a chair...

they are powering them up, but typically, the price will be going up as well. The Lumigrow-which uses 5w diodes, is 1500Us-for 250w, they can suck it as far as I'm concerned.still a couple years away.

I was just reading on Popular Science's web site about this DIY plant light. It was pretty slick actually because it was all built into a plant stake. Don't get me wrong on this, the one that they put together was on the weak side(which can be revised to include A)more powerful LEDs,and B) more of them), but can you imagine the benefits of getting the LEDs right up beside the plant?

like stakes set up in the center rows? that sounds cool-put one in between each plant, and then hang a bank of cfl's over top of the canopy. They have these puck lights that seem like they could be fashioned into a rig like that.

yeah a couple of years from now its for the plants but now using LEDs in your home in general is a good way to save a lot of money...for example you can get LEDS 4w and replace halogenic 40w...

I could describe it, but instead I just went and got the pic from their site. The link the project is

thanx toast, pretty neat-I'd like to see someone on here come up with a high power version-homebrew-that would be interesting. And I agree, tons of advantages with led- I've been replacing bulbs all over the house-hate replacing incandescents every month. And I saw those 4w bulbs on e-bay for 3 bucks- have em in Lowes too-bright little buggers.

Nice job bro! I think LEDs are awesome I just can't afford them so it's CFLs for me which are working great, I want to get those LED Droplite's I think they are called? Anyway it has a bunch of strands that hang down with 3-3 0r 4w LEDS in each string and the chill below the canopy... I think those would have a great improvement for us micro growers

thanks man, and cfl's kick ass btw.Decided to add 2-65w 2700k's and 1-5000k-105w, so technically I'm still a cfl grower-but the combo of the 2 seems to be the ticket. They compliment each other perfectly.Heres todays pics

isnt 2 ufos alot for 4 plants.. i thought they were suposed to compeat with 400 watt hps
whats up man? dont believe that 400whps comparison-thats an outright lie, 90w is 90w- but much cooler, at least without the aid of active ventilation. But bear in mind, this is all just experimental-lol, I'll be just as suprised as everyone else if this all goes well:joint:

Looking great man, I've started some diesel ryders under a UFO just recently. They are popping out of the soil now... probably 35 or so. Too bad I had to put them outside for a night and slugs got to a few sprouts. Those dirty little slugs!

Then plan in the end is to have them outside anyways, but I'm just starting them off on LED to see what goes... I love experimenting as does bf74.

When do you plan on starting to flower these?

whats up rope? and thanks, I vegged these clones way too short, I think-they're actually 13 days into 12/12- I've got a himalaya gold vegging in the veg tent(will post pics this eve) I f'd them up as well-hydro is pretty new to me, so one seedling went into the flower tent, and one is nursing back to health in the veg tent-live and learn. They'll make it though-caught the ph problem early. Also in the veg tent I've got 8 diesel ryders going- our selection methods seem similar, although I envy the hell out of you for being able to grow outside-nice.The UFO will givem a great start-short stocky growth. You should be very happy with your results. And thanx again, peace

thank you kindly, hopefully no more slip-ups.Hydro is like a high performance engine-one piston misfiring....:wallbash: slowly but surely though, the bugs are working out.peace

anyone using leds solely(as I do in the veg tent) please keep those nutes low-1/2 at first-then if your feeling froggy slowly, and I mean slowly increase the dose.I've burned 2 very nice Himalaya golds by going too hard-and also by messing with a new medium-I have to get it in my thick skull to just stick with whats been working well. But I think that can work both ways.Just learn from my mistakes.
