I think those vintage buds are far better looking than the homogenous buds of today.

it seems almost imposible to find "real good" Homogenous stock..

ive been thinkin of buying a load of TomHill stuff, but its hard to get!,,

THE REAL SEED COMPANY sounds good too........what do you guys think??

i wish we could get seeds from everything on that list
someone could undertake a wickid "new" polyhybid project with that gear ;)

nah, not really rick. I don't think you understand the importance of it.

In those days weed were from essentially very few and isolated places. There were not that many strains. But they were pure.

What we have done today is bottleneck all of these strains into quick, stable, potent, high yielding plants. Of which they truly are not supposed to be. We made them like that. And in another fifty years our pot will be what the shivering, nervous erection having chihuahua is to the dog community.

Once the genes are lost, isolated, and muddied there is no going back. In our quest for indoor weed we have eliminated the vast majority of strains (that we worked on) individual gene pool in order to make them stable. What we have today is an intensive race to find and preserve these old strains so that we will have clean breeding stock for the future. But we have lost MANY MANY strains for eternity in our short vision. Namely central and south american, and thai genes. Our government eradicated them into extinction and they were replaced by commercial genes.

Our stones may or may not be remembered, but our actual genes themselves will be almost useless in comparison to the seeds in those photos.

@everybody else. I see some folks saying they remember denser buds with less leaves, etc. You gotta remember Tom Forcade was a smuggler in the day and had access to unbricked stuff. Most folks didn't. How many of you smoked stuff that wasn't compressed into thin flat nugs? Not many. Once you compress the buds, aside from making it look less stringy, and more dense, it also forces many of the leaves on the sides to break off into shake. Leaving denser buds without all those dry leaves hanging off. In the day I'm sure the fluffy buds with intact shake leaves were more exotic for the photo.

I started smoking in 77 and we had very good bud all was outdoor we never herd of indoor bud then. We could get stuff that looked like those photos and we did when the good stuff was not around but most of the bud we could get was dank for those times. There are strains we had then that I have never seen since then more lime green strains. I think the strongest was around 5%THC. I agree that we have lost some very good strains from our quest to make bud 50%THC.

I think you're right. All those samples were grown in their respective areas of origin, and they had to get here somehow. In most cases compressed into a brick. I can imagine it having been exceedingly difficult to get large amounts of unbricked imported herb anywhere, thus the exotic nature of those samples. Plus, those leaves actually helped preserve the potency by protecting the flower clusters.

What I wouldn't give for those seeds...

I've smoked a barrel full of colombians circa 77, and if they were only 5% thc or so, I'll kiss your ass.
Those buds were every bit as potent then as they are now. Ask Raco.... :)
